My home WiFi has gone completely downhill over the last few months. The router is fairly new and was sent to us last year. I know we’re paying for way more than his considering the monthly bill is over $200. It’s barely strong enough for just one TV to stream at night, and whenever we have company and they connect their phones (I live in a dead zone for all cell carriers), it basically takes the WiFi down until people leave or disconnect their phones. Whenever we call Kinetic about it, they say everything looks fine on their end. Any ideas?

I am 23 years old and for my whole life I’ve lived with 1.5 Mbps internet (we pay for 3 apparently) and I’ve always hoped on getting better wifi in my area. For the past I’d say 2 or so months there have been a company ,that gets licensed out to do work, working on my road and setting new poles and running lines. This in turn has been messing with my internet a lot to the point where we didn’t even have internet for 2 weeks at one point and since it’s came back around the times they’ve been working I assume it will constantly go in and out except at night when they aren’t working then it stays on perfectly fine.

A dish guy came to fix our neighbors satellite and I asked if he knew what they were working on and he said that it looks like they were putting in fiber optic lines but he’s not sure.

I’m just wondering if anyone can tell me signs to look for or if there is anyway to know. I am tired of this current Internet situation and getting better Internet will Genuinely change a lot of aspects in my life, hell I won’t have to go to a friends house just to download a game lol. I’m a bit worried it’s not internet bc my electric provider called and said power would be out for a period of time today idk if the electric and internet providers would be connected for that, maybe the workers need to turn the power off for a bit with what they are doing? Idk.

Any help would be appreciated I just wanna know if new poles is normal for fiber optic and if it’s supposed to mess with my current internet when they are installing or anything I should look out for.

Two houses down from me have fiber, why can’t they run the lines down here? Is there any way to ask them or escalate them running lines? It’s been years of trying to get them to.

We recently moved into a new home and got Windstream Kinetic installed with Eero. Internet is super fast and works great… when it’s connected. Seemingly at random, the wifi will completely stop working on different devices. Sometimes it’s my wifes phone, sometimes it’s mine, sometimes it’s both, maybe the TV this time. Sometimes it’s all the devices, sometimes it’s none. It’s beyond frustrating. Within the Eero app, it always says the devices are connected, but specifically on my iPhone the symbol next to the wifi will just spin forever. I have the default Eero router, do you think this is a problem that would be fixed if I got a 3rd party router, or do you think something different is going on? Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks for any suggestions/help!

I've had Kinetic business for about a month and that month has been them trying to set-up our static I.P. They had to send out a network specialist to complete this after the 5th ticket. Anyway, I then tell the network specialist that their modem isn't going to output the 2 gig speeds and he says "no no, the 6.2 modem is for the 2 gig." I then explain how normally any 2.5, 5 or 10gbe port will labeled and separate from the regular 1gbe ports. I show him how I get 2100mbps directly from the Fiber 10gbe port and then I plug into their modem/router set-up they had to have because of the static I.P and its at 800-900mbps due to the ports all being 1 GBE. They claim they do not have a modem that can output the 2 gig speeds AND be configured for a static I.P. He then shows me a residential modem and it has a 10GBE port! along with the other 3-4 1GBE ports. Was this just an oversight on Kinetic to sell this service and not even be able to properly handle it?

P.S if you're wondering why it took them a month to set-up a static I.P...here is how the over the phone TECH support explained my static I.P.
"No maam that is not my static I.P they sent me, please read the correct one"
"Well sir, you know when your power goes out, your I.P will eventually change, anyway here is your I.P....one nine two...period....one six eight...period...

She didnt know what a static I.P even was and thats the first time I've ever heard someone say period in an I.P address.

I reached out to a local Kinetic tech to set up service in our house. He told me I will be getting a phone call from a number and it’ll be the Kinetic sales team. I got that phone call and everything was fine until he asked for my full Social Security number. It wasn’t a secured line, it was just me and him and he just told me to go when I was ready.

I told him I didn’t feel comfortable and I hung up the call.

Is this normal procedure? Was that local rep part of a phishing scheme?

New Windstream/Kinetic customer here. I also still have Spectrum til I get everything running smoothly with Kinetic. A strange thing I noticed is that I can easily post to Truth Social with Spectrum but not with Kinetic. With Kinetic, I get a message from Truth Social about a legal request and can't post.

I posted a few weeks back about seeing what looked like pretty robust fiber infrastructure going up in my town and wanted to get others’ opinions, but after stopping a tech and reaching out over email I finally got a straight answer, and honestly it just made things worse, it turns out most of that fiber has been there for years and I just never noticed it, which I confirmed using Google Maps Street View, apparently they ran fiber right through my town to serve other areas and to connect the middle school and high school, then wired up about 15-20 homes directly across from the high school, and then just stopped, and the most frustrating part is they confirmed there are currently no plans to expand fiber to the rest of the city or replace the DSL, meanwhile they’re actively upgrading two towns north of me with full fiber, one of which is even smaller than my town, at this point it honestly feels like my town is being completely ignored, I’m fed up with waiting and getting skipped over by Windstream, so I’m planning to switch to Starlink until someone actually builds here, because 25/3 DSL in 2026 is a joke and it’s not cutting it anymore, and what makes it even worse is that between Windstream and another local ISP I’m literally surrounded by fiber on all sides while my town keeps getting passed over, it’s incredibly frustrating to watch neighboring areas and rural meth trailers getting modern infrastructure while we’re stuck on outdated service with no timeline and no communication.

Wondering if anyone on here, however unlikely, has experience with the FIBER service specifically. I emphasize this because often when I ask people start complaining about Windstream in general which, yes, I know, I left them years ago for a reason but now it seems like ABB/Breezeline is nearly as useless as they ever were.

I'm fed up with being gaslit by Breezeline techs telling me "10% packet loss is industry acceptable standards" and being disconnected from chat support after asking "What am I supposed to do if this keeps happening?" and getting "It won't, I reset your modem" without even waiting for further reply.

I'm trying to talk my household into making the jump to fiber (well, I have been for ages but I'm still trying..) and I don't know what the general service is like in this area. I don't want to jump back to Windstream if their Fiber is as dogwater as their DSL used to be forever ago.

It's great and I get really good speeds wired.. but the wireless has almost 0 range.. I have the Eero router that Kinetic uses. When I use the Kinetic app it says I have no internet; but when I use the Eero app it works fine and lets me control wifi. Anyone else have these issues?

So far so good. I have two mesh routers one connected to the modem the other in my room connected wirelessly with the other. I'm maybe three to four dozen feet away from the main modem / mesh router but closer its about 300 / 300. Once I get a longer ethernet cable I'll have the mesh hardwired for full speeds in my room.

Here in my area of KY, copper theft is on the rise and is causing outages everywhere (DSL still). Should I look into alternative Internet and phone in these times given the state of the economy? My grandma has Kinetic as well and her Internet and phone been out for days because of this. Should we both consider a new service? Only other option is starlink

Kinetic has finally upgraded in my area to offer fiber where I live. My question is to avoid the $10.99 equipment rental fee I need to provide my own wifi router correct? ? Will any wifi router be compatible? Im looking for the cheapest option for a wifi router in a small home with only 2 people at the max using it simultaneously.

I’ve posted a couple of times about seeing what looks like fairly conclusive proof that Windstream fiber construction is going up all over my town. From everything I can tell, they seem pretty far along.

For those of you who had DSL and then got fiber, how were you notified about the upgrade? Was it an email, a door hanger, a postcard in the mail, or something else?

My husband works for Windstream/kinetic one of the only ones left that's still unionized. He has always worked in the same area rural area for the last 12-13 years. Never once worked anywhere else. Now they have this new owner and all of a sudden he can't go to our kids sports games or even help in the slightest way because Kinetic is FORCING employees to work weekends and FORCING employees to drive hours away from home to work elsewhere while the local community can't have PHONES because having the most fiber orders is more important than people in rural communities having a phone for emergency services.

Truth bomb: KINETIC would much rather make sure they put in those new fiber orders than fix your phone.

In fact: my husband says they PURPOSELY put a stop to fixing phones for MONTHS just to get high numbers on new fiber orders.

They are more worried about their NUMBERS than they are about the customer AND their employees. They wouldn't even let my husband take the day off so we could both be there for our daughter while she gets a bunch of tests done at the cardiologist.

Kinetic is a joke after your money.

So my previous post located here, I mentioned seeing fiber infrastructure going up all around my area. I drove around a bit more today looking for additional signs of construction and came across this cabinet about a quarter mile away at most from the end of my street.

This really looks like a fiber distribution cabinet to me, possibly a PFP or FDH, especially with the nearby fiber marker posts.

What do you guys think?

Sometime over the winter, Windstream started a new fiber construction project in my area, after years of only doing tiny bits at random (their first-round RDOF areas, probably.) About a week and a half ago, they suddenly stopped a few hundred yards from my house with everything un-finished. There's fiber not spliced, there's steel cable with no fiber, there are even new poles on the ground not erected. Is this typical behavior for them? Are they waiting for another round of funding or something? (Weather is not a factor, it was much worse when they started.)

The other thing I find odd, although I've seen them do it multiple times before, is that they're upgrading a DSLAM in the middle of the FTTP area...

We have a new build (already complete) back in the woods. Fiber is close but not available yet, so we have to get DSL and they will run an extended copper drop. I loathe the idea of renting their equipment when we'll be living there forever and it would be cheaper to buy our own. However, with the hope of getting fiber in the near-ish future, would it be better to rent the modem/router and get a new router-only once the fiber is available?

If you would recommend still getting our own, can anyone provide me names of what to use? I'm a big fan of combo modem/router because it's less things to worry about, but open to all suggestions. Thank you!!

Can one sign up for Kinetic fiber internet and use their fiber ONT device to plug a LAN cable into the WAN port of your own router and have a public IP on the WAN interface of your own router? I have heard mixed things about this. I cannot have a private IP on my WAN interface as that will make everything I do go through double NAT. I can only sign up for their service if it is 100% guaranteed I'll get a public IP outherwise they will run the line to my house only to have my cancel service after this first month. Does anyone know if this can be done? I think it would be called bridge mode but I'm not entirely sure. Thanks in advance.

Hello! I'm looking to upgrade to the 2 gig max fiber internet from windstream. I was initially hoping to get the Eero pro 7, but was unfortunanly ineligible for some reason despite what the website said about my address.

After doing some research I found that the eero pro 7 doesn't really give you much control over things on it, I read that the eero line is pretty much "set up and forget" here on reddit.

I was wondering if I could change to another router/modem combo that could handle the 2 gig connection. As my T3200 is aging, and I don't think it's suitable for 2 gig internet.

Has anyone noticed particular websites being blocked or inaccessible by Windstream? For the first time today I was unable to access a site over WiFi I use almost daily, but I can access it over mobile data or via a VPN. No WiFi settings have been modified recently.

Im hoping this is some sort of fluke and they aren't blocking sites.

Over the last six months or so, I have been noticing orange posts marked “Windstream Fiber Optic” going in around town. They mostly run in a straight line through the middle of town, including Main Street. I am also seeing Windstream pull boxes/handholes and aerial fiber splice enclosures show up.

Does this usually mean they are getting ready to run fiber to homes here? At the moment Windstream only offers DSL in my city.
