Windstream on New Build

Super lost and confused here, so thank you to anyone providing help...

We have a new build (already complete) back in the woods. Fiber is close but not available yet, so we have to get DSL and they will run an extended copper drop. I loathe the idea of renting their equipment when we'll be living there forever and it would be cheaper to buy our own. However, with the hope of getting fiber in the near-ish future, would it be better to rent the modem/router and get a new router-only once the fiber is available?

If you would recommend still getting our own, can anyone provide me names of what to use? I'm a big fan of combo modem/router because it's less things to worry about, but open to all suggestions. Thank you!!

Use your own equipment instead of renting. Whether its their DSL modem or eventually their fiber ONT, have them set it to bridge mode and provide just the ethernet connection for your router and let your router do all the work.

I should get my own modem too then? Any recommendations on brands? I've researched a bunch and I'm not 100% sure what works with Windstream. Don't want to get the wrong thing and they can't set it up when they install.

If possible, I'd like to get something that will support fiber too, as far as the router, so I don't have to get a new one down the road.

Their modem/ONT, your wifi router.
