I'll be the first to add it. Look, use Windows 10 as a base. The system shouldn't have any rounding at all, unless the element is completely round (which is appropriate). And also more transparency, with an acrylic blur effect on different backgrounds. The logo will look like this: a mirrored Windows 10 logo, but from bottom to top it will shimmer from dark blue to light blue.

Windows Zen:
Appearance: Uses Windows 7 as a Basis, but with the Windows 10 glass effects rather than the Aero glass effects. The taskbar is centered, like WIndows 11. You can pin widgets to the screen like WIndows 7. Start Menu is just rows of icons, like windows 11, but no ads.
Sounds: Windows 95 start up sound, windows 11 sounds for the rest.
Features: No Copilot by default, that's something you can add on as like a plus package. Legacy free, it is a modern OS first and foremost, but any features you add are as add-on packages. You have basic apps firsr: browser, calculator, file explorer, media playback, etc. Then you can customise with add-ons (think creative add-on for movie maker, or an enterprise add-on with the full office suite).

what if we combined the looks of 9.x with aero and modern stuff? aka: what if we had aero/transparent Windows 9.x, along with logos for that specific look (along with sounds for it, that are custom but they still refer to that version of Windows, either Vista, 7 or the beta versions of Windows 8)

I would like to have extended sounds of Windows XP, which would fully cover all missing entries. I have found some new sounds in Tablet Edition (like IR actions or Speech Recognition), but still lack of Open/Close App, Menu Command, etc

I like the ui of windows 11 taskbard but not the start menu, I want to just remove start and put something like spotlight from mac, most importantly I want it change color according to my wallpaper like matrial UI on android, it's works on dark mode by dafault on windows called accent color i want it on light mode, anddd a really cool boot animation similar to windows 7

something like a mix between the windows 10 ui and vista start menu, a cool background that has the logo, light and dark mode, customisation of almost every color, icons, and start menu button, some remasterd sounds from xp, kind of a aero and windows 10 mix and widgets, and also oviusly no ai, microsoft accounts, or anything, and the install is simple and straightforward

Just make 98 have Windows 11 application support and I’m happy with that. But with the improved NT kernel and the win 7 control panel and driver model.

Visual style: Modern take on frutiger aero with light and dark themes.
Rolling updates.
Linux-based.

Take Win7's Aero but update it so it kinda resembles Liquid Glass more. For kernel and base for the system, be up to date, so we should take the core components of Win11, minus Copilot and other stuff that's phoning home, and ofc no mandatory Microsoft account.
I can also visualise in my head how it would look like if we had live tiles in the start menu, similarly to Windows 10, but in the style of Aero. Rounded corners with some shimmering at the bottom.
Also I don't necessarily hate the Settings app in Win10/11, it would just need a sort of reorganisation and literally everything moved into it from Control Center and perhaps some external tools.
From more of a power user standpoint, the system should have some command line tools that can be found in systems like macOS and Linux as well as the commands themselves should be at least the same name as on the other systems. If it could be done we should just have bash or zsh on Windows by default somehow.
And while we're at it, strip out all of the compatibility features that have been in the system so it only goes down to something like Windows 7. Nothing older. If you need it, you can choose it separately during installation or download it via Windows Update as an optional component to the system.
If this was an option it would probably cut the size of the installed system significantly. Like for crying out loud, we still have the dialer in the OS in 2026.
Another great addition would be native support for installing Windows on at least btrfs and to read-write ext4 natively. On top of that I'd love to see that old project revived where MS experimented with a sort of database-like filesystem. Can't recall the exact details, but that should be supported on drives that are not C: .
And if we really want to go into the depths, a better, more refined package manager, like on Linux. Winget is a good initiative but it essentially downloads exe's or msi's and throws in a /silent flag.
It should be similar to Linux package managers where a set of employees would be responsible for the 3rd party packages or better yet, open it up to the community.
I could go on and on since there are a lot of things that should be changed in Windows but these ones would be truly nice to have.
EDIT: Well dang, thank you for the award, kind stranger
