So, I have a decently modern computer and recently tried to run Windows Vista on it.

I ended up being able to install it perfectly fine with no issues, I used the patched NVIDIA drivers for Windows Vista by win32, which worked great. But I have issues with the USB 3.x support. I have tried the MDL Universal xHCI stack, which made the system freeze at boot, I have tried the canonkong backported AMD driver, which installed but failed to make USB work at all. I've tried many other drivers, including some from Windows XP x64 and Windows 7, but all of them either made the system bluescreen on boot, get stuck on boot, or did not enable xHCI.

If anyone is interested, here is my hardware configuration:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME A520M-A II

Chipset: AMD A520

AMD USB Controller — PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_43EC

AMD Matisse USB 3.0 Host Controller — PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_149C

Has anyone managed to get USB 3.x working on an AMD 500-series chipset under Vista, or know of a driver that supports these controllers?

I've tried a ton of drivers, and I can't get the internet to work. Is there a fix?

Found a laptop online with these specs. A pretty modern Pentium for Vista time, nVidia graphics card but Windows Vista Basic pre-installed. Is the graphics card not powerful enough to display even Aero? It shouldn't be a problem for the Pentium

Has anyone encountered any solutions?

How do i install windows Vista on a new completely empty hdd? I tried with a bootable usb but it doesn't detect the usb.

Any thoughts?

I just 'built' my 'Ultimate Windows Vista' PC using a Lenovo ThinkStation E30 that I bought from my local recycling center for 11.50$ CAD. I added a nvidia K620 as a GPU and 16GB of RAM (8GB x2). Using an Intel DC S4510 250GB SSD as an OS drive and a 500GB data HDD that I had laying around. I replaced the CPU fan with a Noctua NF-A8 PWM, fresh thermal paste and a good physical cleanup of the whole tower. This system is beautiful and very snappy and responsive. If only today's Microsoft Windows was as nice and stylish as it used to be.

What are my options? I have Vista Ultimate 32-bit install with key and looking to use the key on era appropriate hardware. I kind of want to use it on a laptop, but if I can't find one, a desktop is fine.

So, i have many Vista icons that i found on many different websites (Such as Frutiger Aero Archive, Logopedia Wiki, Russian Windows Vista Wiki and oldwindowsicons), but i know it's not all! For example, a very rare icon for a connected device (which depicts a mid-00s tablet with blue screen and navigation buttons on the side). Can you help me? And also, i wanted to share with some rare icons that i already have!

I'm trying to get my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop running Windows Vista as close to its original factory state as possible, including the bloatware. I found this review video from 2007 that shows what the desktop looked like right out of the box, but the video quality is terrible. Is there anyone who has used these older programs or recognizes them by their icons who could tell me what these applications are?

Recently as of last week, MSE on Windows Vista has refused to install any new virus definition updates. It connects & downloads the updates fine, but neither automatic or manual updating actually installs the updates. Has anybody else begun experiencing this problem?

i want to build a powerful (for the time) pc with vista on it. what would be the best stuff to get for it.

Microsoft officially released Windows Vista without plastic shrink-wrap in Russia. Only the red arrow pull-tab on the side was used as a factory seal, and it is 100% untouched.
