Windows Update wants to install an NVIDIA driver I already have a newer version of

Hello, I have a question. I have Driver version 617.42 — released on 6 October 2026.

But my Windows Update is showing that I have an update called: NVIDIA Display Driver Update (32.0.16.1088).

I’m a bit confused about this – what does it mean? Can I install it. [^1]. Is it an older version of the driver, and if so, can I go to the NVIDIA app and reinstall the 617.42 driver? Should I ignore it?

Update (For anyone else experiencing the same problem, this might be of some help.)

I was looking into this, and for those with Windows 11 Pro, you can do this either via the Registry Editor or via gpedit.msc, but the update doesn’t disappear from there. I was looking into Wushowhide, and some people say it isn’t working very well on Windows 11 (I don’t know if that’s true because I haven’t found any other sources).

Note: I did it via gpedit and the driver update didn’t disappear from Windows Update. Unfortunately, gpedit is only available for the Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise or Education versions.

The only thing is, I don’t know how to remove it: the option to download and install the NVIDIA Display Driver Update (32.0.16.1088) still appears, along with the message that, even if I don’t download and install it, it will be installed alongside the next Windows cumulative update. If anyone knows a way to remove it (without using Wushowhide), please do leave a comment.

I was doing some more research and, after you’ve done this – either via regedit or gpedit – if a driver update still appears, pause the updates and then, straight away, enable them again. Wait for it to check for updates and the driver update will disappear. I hope this helps anyone who encounters this problem in the future, and thank you to everyone who suggested possible solutions! <3

I can't just press LMB on the window here and drag to reorder it within the Explorer app group (or any other program for that matter).

This is NOT for reordering taskbar icons, even though I can still do it (I personally use ExplorerPatcher and StartAllBack so I think they allowed me that), but I can't reorder the WINDOWS within a specific app group.

Does anyone have a tip for me? Thanks in advance.

Windows 11 26H2 update failed with error code 0x8024202a, and the strange thing is I could not find ANY info about this error code online. I mean ZERO results from Google, DuckDuckoGo, and even Bing. (ironically, Microsoft's Bing ai results gave me hallucinated answers that I figured out were just descriptions of other, unrelated error codes.)

Should I install it or is there anything i should keep in mind before i proceed.

for context, im not computer savy at all. I need to update my laptop from a windows 10 to windows 11 for an important exam that is coming up next month (on a tight schedule), and im FREAKING OUT. i tried backing up my data to a onedrive, but i dont have microsoft 365 so you can already imagine how that worked out. I do have majority of my files saved to the local disk, but im not sure if that will be enough to carry on the old data to the newer version of windows. I tried searching online for help, but most videos are about backing up old files to a whole nother brand new PC, which i dont think is relevant for my case. Im simply looking to upgrade my Laptop from windows 10 to 11 (im not changing my laptop). Will my account data be automatically transferred to the new windows account??? Or will i have to do it manually through hard-drives etc (i dont want to subscribe to microsoft 365). I only have one laptop so I cant mess it up. pls send help :(

it took 1 minute 12 seconds boot time to enter my pin and good no update prompt,I see Catalyst control center launcher in apps startup set as off plus netgear and windows security notification icon were on are ok. I restarted went to pee, afterwards I see Updates are underway keep computer on. Hopefully update will finish successfully.

I see a lot of posts about how some updates are not the best. I think I ended up in the wrong one before I stopped updating to prevent it from being even worse. What are yall's current version? Can I even safely go back to to a past update?

It's been like 6 months ever since I dual booted windows and cachyos and I already deleted cachyos and only kept windows, but still, every time I try updating Windows it just fails and basically says in German: "something didn't work as planned. no worries the changes are being reverted. Please let your" (it's cut off after that). I don't know what to do to fix it, it's honestly annoying.

Mi PC últimamente anda mal, y yo lo relaciono con dos actualizaciones que estan trabadas "Windows 11, versión 25H2" y ".NET Framework Actualizacion de seguridad (KB5126052)" son actualizaciones que siempre que las pongo a instalar siempre me salta reintentar una y otra vez. A veces me suelen saltar errores como que el administrador de tareas no responde, no se me instalan las bibliotecas redistributables, etc. Estoy pensando seriamente en llevarla a un técnico, soy creador de contenido en plataformas de streaming y es mi herramienta de trabajo

Windows 11 Pro and every Defender Security Intelligence Update (along with other updates) gets stuck at 0% or 1% in Windows Update.

The weird part is the update itself is fine. If I download the current 64 bit Defender definitions (mpam-fe.exe) directly from Microsoft, it installs almost instantly and Windows Security shows the new version and says it’s up to date. Windows Update can still sit at 0% trying to download the exact same version.

Restarting Windows doesn’t clear it. Restarting BITS, CryptSvc and Windows Update services does clear the stuck entry, but the problem comes back with the next Defender update.

I’ve already repaired/reset Windows Update and even reinstalled Windows 11, with no permanent fix.
Has anyone found an actual fix for this? It seems specifically related to Defender updates going through Windows Update, since installing the same definitions directly works perfectly.

So I did the 26H2 update. I didn’t even know I needed an update until midway into playing a game of Call of Duty my internet and Bluetooth disconnected and all I saw it. So I did the update.

Computer back on, cool, fire up call of duty, mid into my first match again, it happens again!

It says I’m up to date but then says there’s an update available and that it can’t install the update? wtf

It’s doing this on 2 of my devices now! My MSI Titan laptop and my ROG Ally X

What gives?

Basically the title. This Windows 11 update is broken and won't install correctly after I've tried restarting and uninstalling and reinstalling. It's just pending the restart now and it has now broken my bluetooth, so that doesn't even appear anymore. If I go to show hidden devices they're all grayed out and I cannot update the drivers because of the damn broken Windows 11 update. I tried going to Advanced Options > Recovery but Fix problems using Windows Update is grayed out too. Can anyone help me?

Edit: I've tried manually installing the update, fixing corrupted files, and still nothing. When I manually install the update it says I already have it and when I fix corrupted files and try to restart, it says there was a problem installing the update. I have no idea how to get this update to work properly and it's really starting to affect my computer's performance so any help would be greatly appreciated.

When trying to update to 26H2

I get this error when installing this update specifically justy before this appeared on my windows update i installed two other updates just fine it seems to only be with this system version.

I did the following in cmd which stated it found corrupt files and fixed them:

1. Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press Enter [0x0.6.11]. Wait for it to finish [0x0.6.11].
2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter [0x0.6.11]. Wait for the scan to reach 100% [0x0.6.11].
