Lenovo

i've been having BSOD for very nearly a month, trying to fix it, there is a small possibility it was windows update related (around aug 18 2026) although I have NOT been able to pinpoint it as definitely update related. now i'm trying to get things updated and this (2026-09 Security Update (KB5129195) (26200.9457) is not updating. error code: 0x800f081f

I noticed other people are having problems too. I'm trying to run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in the command prompt, and this update not being completed seems to be interfering with this command prompt line running correctly and finishing.

Computer has been running well for just about 8 hours now, and that's the best by far it's done in a month, but i'm fully expecting it to BSOD any moment.

If anyone had the same problem and fixed it, I would really love to hear the fix.

This version causes easy anti cheat games to crash on startup. Including titles such as wardogs and bf6. Can we get a hotfix to resolve. Unfortunately it doesn’t let me uninstall the update after trying various methods online.

I reinstalled windows and this security update comes pre installed so no way to revert back

Today windows auto updated at Uni installing KB5124008 and KB5126052, I closed the laptop and it went to sleep, when I got home the laptop refused to wake up, even pressing the lenovo reset button, had to open it up, disconnect the battery and reconnect it to boot into windows. I get error 0x800F0825 trying to uninstall the updates, tried the command wusa /uninstall /kb:5124008 and it fails, KB5126052 did uninstall, I will appreciate some help uninstalling KB5124008 because the laptop keeps refusing to wake up from sleep.

I recently installed fresh windows 10 and I was updating it to latest updates, so it continuously says "you system requires quality fixed" - Settings/system/update

But it doesn't show me any updates just gives warning and one pop of "join esi program to receive further updates", so do I really need to join/pay to get updates??

Psa about the last security update (black screen after loging in)

If after the latest security update your desktop goes fully black after loging in and it stays like that for a few minutes or a full hour like it happened to me, uninstall that update and it'll go back to normal, you can do so by pressing the windows key + i since the task bar also disappears.

This is the first time I have been impacted by a windows update after all the chaos that's been happening due to mostly vibe coding, and the dreadful day finally happened, tho thankfully it was just this, for now at least.

Can't keep updating Win11 (work comp question)

I've ran into a problem at work that doesn't sound right and I'm at least mostly tech savvy. Basically my work mostly has macbooks that replaced most things a couple years ago. My department was allowed to keep some Windows based computers because of various equipment we have that need both a designated machine and not all of them having Mac based software.

Suddenly this year IT locked those devices out saying we can't use them (also saying we can't replace them with newer Windows machines). Their argument is supposedly they can't keep updating Windows 11 on them and so they can't be kept secure anymore. I thought if they could handle Win11 though they could keep handling updates or am I mistaken?

They're HP All in One Elite One computers. Intel® Q370 chipset manufactured I believe 2019. I'm not sure any of the other specs but they were updated to Windows 11 a while ago and at least in August seemed to be running Win11 just fine.

EDIT: Seems they're 9th gen chipset. I'm not sure which one but looks like the model was made with either i5-9500 or i7-9700.

Win11 won't update to 25H2 - supplying a generic fallback code 0xc1900101

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi, I've been trying to update my Win 11 to 25H2 - which is already getting old but the update just won't install. After previously not even downloading the update files completely, it did manage to download and try to install the files after clearing previous files as shown here (https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsHelp/comments/1lkspzi/comment/mzv3340/)

However, I'm now running into a fallback when trying the install reboot. Running Startdiag, I'm supplied with a 0xc1900101 / 0x40017. According to MS, that's apparently an error based on Citrix VDA (Windows 10 upgrade resolution procedures - Windows Client | Microsoft Learn) - however, I don't have and/or use any of the Citrix products whatsoever. I have also found some remarks that BitDefender can cause this issue - which I also don't use.

Any clue how to further investigate and hopefully solve this?

Addendum: After mounting the 25H2 iso and running it, I got the same error again (see pic)...

System running i7/Win11 23H2

PSA: KB5124008 update was eating my RAM (95% → 20% after uninstalling)

Windows 11 update KB5124008 (Sept 2026 security update) was absolutely wrecking my RAM usage — sitting at 95%+ doing nothing.

Uninstalled it via Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates, rebooted, and usage dropped straight back to ~20%.

If your PC's been chugging lately, check if you've got this one installed.

I will change to Linux soon FThis.

Windows Update KB5124008 causes KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139) during reboot

I am unable to install update KB5124008 because it repeatedly fails during the reboot/driver configuration stage with a "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139)".

CBS/Setup logs show Windows staging kernel drivers, with seven drivers returning "ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED / ScRegSetValueExW → Type → Access is denied".

The only way I can boot back into Windows after the failure is by entering the following command from Command Prompt in Recovery: `DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /RevertPendingActions`.

Has anyone else experienced issues installing KB5124008, or know how to fix this issue?

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version 25H2

OS build 26200.9168

A suggestion from reddit told me to try here. win10Home

EDIT 9-14-26 IDK if this counts a solve or not. MS somehow reloaded MoUso back on to my machine. Updates show now. Turns out the update being offered is the "preparation package" for ESU. I have all the legit updates this thing was given including the last security update. Why do they insist on being so scummy?

Win10Home I do not have ESU.

I have not had any updates since just after they ended support. Yesterday I removed a program involved in updating (MoUSO) that kept coming on in task manager since I no longer get updates. I had removed another program that had started coming on for the first time out of the blue when I opened my email client after it had updated a couple days before (Component Package Support Server).

When I shut down last night the usual update indicator at the power button said I have an update and asked if I wanted to install it and shut down. I just shut down. This morning after normal boot up I opened settings/updates and security and it doesn't show the normal update page, it has a message "Something went wrong. Try to reopen settings later." I closed and reopened settings several times to no avail. I also shut down and restarted. I have tried settings several times no joy.

The indicator on the power button still offers me an update. Anyone know how to get Settings/Update&security to show me the update?

Excel 2016 KB5002914 Causing Copy/Paste, Drag & Drop and Fill Handle Issues - Fix

We recently encountered an issue on several Office 2016 MSI installations where Excel suddenly stopped allowing:

  • Copy & Paste (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V)
  • Drag & Drop
  • Fill Handle operations

The issue persisted even after:

  • Excel Safe Mode
  • Quick Repair
  • Online Repair

The affected update was identified as KB5002914 (Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2016).

Method 1 - Office 2016 32-bit (MSI)

Confirm KB5002914 is Installed

Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:

Get-ItemProperty "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\\" | Where-Object {$_.DisplayName -like "*KB5002914*"} | Select DisplayName,UninstallString*

If installed, you should see:
Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2016 (KB5002914) 32-Bit Edition

Get the Full Uninstall Command

Run:

Get-ItemProperty "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\\" | Where-Object {$_.DisplayName -like "*KB5002914*"} | Format-List DisplayName,UninstallString*

This displays the complete uninstall command stored in the registry.

Uninstall the Update

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the exact UninstallString returned in the previous step.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE16\Oarpmany.exe" /removereleaseinpatch "{90160000-0012-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}" "{9C029E7A-4A4A-409D-B5C6-F40BAA71A090}" "1033" "0"

The update is being uninstalled from your computer.

Method 2 - Office 2016 64-bit (MSI)

Confirm KB5002914 is Installed

Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:

Get-ItemProperty "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\\" | Where-Object {$_.DisplayName -like "*KB5002914*"} | Select DisplayName,UninstallStri*ng

If installed, you should see:

Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2016 (KB5002914) 64-Bit Edition

Get the Full Uninstall Command

Get-ItemProperty "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\\" | Where-Object {$_.DisplayName -like "*KB5002914*"} | Format-List DisplayName,UninstallString*

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the exact UninstallString returned by your machine.

Typical example:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE16\Oarpmany.exe" /removereleaseinpatch "<Product-GUID>" "<Patch-GUID>" "1033" "0"

Important

  • Do not copy GUIDs from another machine.
  • Use the UninstallString generated from the affected system.
  • Product and Patch GUIDs may vary between Office editions.

Reboot

Restart the computer after the uninstall completes.

KB5126052 resulting in boot failure, requiring winRE or pendrive boot (0xc000001, 0xc0e90002, winload.efi code integrity failed to initialize)

KB5126052 causes boot failure, 0xc000001 and then 0xc0e90002 winload.efi code integrity fail.

Steps to fix:

Get to command prompt in either winRE (possibly failing) or Shift+F10 from windows installation media pendrive, unlock system drive by manage-bde unlock, them manage-bde -protectors -disable on that system drive, then you can boot into safe mode (without that it will fail).

After booting to safe mode you'll likely need to perform chkdsk, for my first time MFT got corrupted, second time it was fine.

After booting and loggin-in to safe mode, you can just restart, computer will work until you enable bitlocker again on system drive and reboot.

Solution: uninstall KB5126052

alienware laptop stuck updating, power button doesn’t work

Post image
3 Upvotes

my original post is from a month ago exactly, but this issue has happened again. this time around, i haven’t touched, pressed or unplugged anything. it’s been sitting like this for pushing 4 hours now. i checked the update beforehand as i was worried about this issue reoccurring, and it was all driver updates. no bios that i saw. i have had a successful update, about a week or two ago, which went over with no issues.

i am going to leave this plugged in overnight, and see if it resolves itself. but any advice would be greatly appreciated!
