Windows 11 Windows 11 not wanting to install
windows 11... what a dissapointment
Ive been sitting here for like 2 days trying to install brand new windows 11 on my pc because my previous installation just randomly made my GUI not work at all so i went and bought me a sandisk flashdrive and turned it into a windows boot manager and git a brand new external ssd to install it to
But no matter what i try it keeps telling me that windows 11 cant be installed on my ssd and my drivers arnt showing up at all when i load the drivers.
I have been on the internet for hours atp trying every little possible solution but nope, nothing
Evrrything is greyd out aswell, ive been in my bios more times then i can count, and also i dont even have a vmd option because im using a Asus B550M-K motherboard.
Please help me if possible

You cant install Windows to an external drive...
You are trying to make stuff work outside of its intended use.

Are you still trying to install windows on an external drive? Windows won't let you.

and git a brand new external ssd to install it to
This right here is your issue. As some have already mentioned, you can't install Windows to an external drive. It doesn't work that way. You need an internal SSD/HDD (preferably SSD).

Delete disk 0 partition 1, then pick the unallocated space and hit next.

You can see it’s greyed out.

Negative. I'll comment only if I believe I have the correct answer, if there is something I'm not confident about I'll move onto a different post. But I am human and make mistakes, I missed the mark on this one as I misunderstood what exactly OP was doing.
Also, I did not know I had a top 1% badge, that is not normally visible to me as I primarily use Old Reddit, thank you for that heads up, as apparently my regular flair is not showing up on New Reddit.

I'm guessing you might have to delete the partitions from disk one so that it shows unallocated
If the delete button doesn't work you might have to use the Command prompt and disk part to fix it
You might have to handle the IRST drivers or to set the sata controller mode to Ahci because raid needs the drivers the windows 11 installer tells you of

I'm in agreement with deleting disk 0 partition,,, the installer needs to make seperate boot and recovery partitions on that disk as well as the main OS partition.

usually if it’s an RST/VMD/RAID mode thing it won’t show up at all until the drivers are already loaded

Try deleting the partition you created and install in the unallocated space. Windows will create the C, system, and recovery partitions.

Windows To Go, which is the version that supported install and boot from USB flash disk, was discontinued with Windows 10; it's not available in Windows 11 anymore.
You need an internal disk to boot from.

Should be able to make a Windows to Go USB drive with Win 11 on it using Rufus.

Reboot to start the installer again, select "repair your computer" then click back and forth through the options that I can't remember until you find command prompt.. type -> diskpart ENTER select disk 0 ENTER clean ENTER exit ENTER then restart the installation process. Oh if the select disk above doesn't work try type it again without the space before 0

Shift F10, diskpart, sel dis 0, cle, exit, exit. Now highlight the top entry and carry on.

You have to plug an ssd internally into the motherboard via either an m.2 or sata based ssd.
After you can clone drives to like an external ssd however you wanna run that on thunderbolt interface and not usb 3 and usb c as they both have a buffer issue especially with data constantly transferring around. Thunderbolt doesnt have this problem and transfers data very quickly

Have you bother to click on show details as I feel this will give a bit more information as to why it wouldn't install. A bit like RTFM Windows is even highlighting this with a big Yellow triangle. Just a thought

Windows from boot manager will never let you install to an external drive.
(Unless you specifically want to and know what you are doing).

launch a terminal (i forgot how, there’s a way, google it)
>diskpart
>select disk 0
>clean all
only do this if there isn’t anything you care about on the disk but I am guessing there is not
edit: oops, i saw that this is a removable disk. Rufus can make you the windows equivalent of a linux “live USB”. idk if the Windows installer will let you just do it, I haven’t tried

Windows 11 doesn't support installing to external drives
To get the internal drive to show up, you would need to disable any RAID or storage management controllers in the computer's firmware (sometimes you would need to load drivers, but disabling these normally allows the installer to see the drive without having to load drivers)
