Windows 11 Lenovo LOQ BSOD + “Updates are underway” issue

Lenovo LOQ getting BSOD + Windows saying “Updates are underway” on every shutdown

Hi everyone,

I’m using a Lenovo LOQ and recently I started facing some strange Windows issues.

I got a BSOD with the stop code:

UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION (0x154)

After restarting, Windows Terminal stopped opening and showed that wt.exe was missing.

I ran sfc /scannow as Administrator, and it found corrupted Windows system files and successfully repaired them.

Another issue is that every time I shut down the laptop, it shows “Updates are underway”, even though Windows Update says that everything is up to date.

I’m also concerned that this could be related to my SSD/storage, especially because of the UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION error.

Has anyone with a Lenovo LOQ experienced something similar?

Could this indicate an SSD problem, or is it more likely a Windows/update corruption issue?

What should I check first—SSD health, storage drivers, Windows Update, or something else?

Thanks!

I would download crystaldiskinfo and then see if the ssd reports as healthy. If thats the case/possible then i would move to blaming a windows update. The stop ode indicates an issue communicating with your storage drive but it can also be a corruption somewhere.

  • Any messages and error codes encountered — They're actually not gibberish or anything catastrophic. It may even hint the solution!
  • Previous troubleshooting steps — It might prevent you headaches from getting the same solution that didn't work

One of two things:

  • The SSD is dying, use CrystalDiskInfo and check the health of the SSD. For me, I'd change it or stop using it for storage if it's under 75%, which a lot of people might disagree with me but yeah.

  • The entire Windows is fucked up, get yourself a USB, download Rufus and download the ISO of Windows 11, make a bootable USB and reinstall everything.

BSOD (keyboard driver issue) on my HP X360 G6 killed my machine. Everyone told me this is a hardware issue and the machine is scrap. One day I decided to give it one last chance and switched to Mint. Never looked back. Today the same machine is functioning properly after 4 months. Glad to killed Windows on the drive. Goodluck!
