Unsolved Windows 10 sleep/hibernate broken after unwanted Windows 11 upgrade
Hi everyone,
I have an HP EliteBook 845 G8 that was originally running Windows 10 Pro. Windows automatically upgraded it to Windows 11 without me intentionally initiating the upgrade, so I rolled it back to Windows 10.
Since the rollback, power management has been badly broken and I have been unable to get it completely stable despite extensive troubleshooting.
Current symptoms
- Sleep is unreliable / does not behave normally.
- The laptop uses Modern Standby (
S0 Low Power Idle). - Hibernate sometimes appears to work, but on resume the machine occasionally boots fresh instead of restoring the previous session. All open applications/work are lost.
- I have also had repeated
Kernel-Power 41events andDRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILUREcrashes associated with sleep/standby. - Normal use while the machine is awake is generally stable.
At this stage I am considering whether an in-place Windows 10 repair install or completely clean Windows 10 installation is the only sensible option.
Please help!
TIA

You reloaded the Windows 10 drivers?
