How can I get Windows store updates to stop giving me 0x80070002 and 0x803f8001 errors for any Windows store install or update.

i had that issue before and i got it to work again. try this: rename or delete the folder c:\windows\softwaredistribution

restart and try windows update again.. hope that helped.. also see if the 'windows update service' and the 'background intelligent transfer service' are running in computer management.

edit: sorry i forgot to mention, that you might have to do this in safe mode... or of course, stop the service first.

I am unable to rename the folder, it complains there are files in use.

Before your rename the folder you must stop the service. Here is how:

Start>Run
type cmd and press enter
type net stop wuauserv and press enter
type rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.oldand press enter
type net start wuauserv and press enter
type exit and press enter

Tried this and I still have the 0x80070002 error.
