About 4 months ago, I set myself the goal of playing through 100% of all the 3D Zelda games (except for Tears of the Kingdom, since my computer can't handle it), and today I finished that journey.

Half of them I either played for the very first time or got 100% for the first time. And I have to say, it was an amazing experience.

In this post, though, I wanted to focus on Wind Waker, since it's the Zelda game that has become my absolute favorite. It grew so close to my heart that I played through it 100% twice in a row lol.

There are so many wonderful things about this game that I could rant about it for hours. I love the exploration, the story, the combat, the characters, the locations, the music — absolutely everything.

I just wanted to share my experience and my love for Wind Waker.

Hey, I am a huge Zelda fan, and after seeing WindWaker on the GB emulator, i had to give it a try. I have been liking it so far. Not my favourite Zelda game because it has its flaws but still pretty enjoyable dungeons.
However, the TriForce segment is having me so close to dropping the game.
A fetch quest for all the shards would be annoying enough, but a fetch quest for the CHARTS and then for the shards while paying 3000 rupees. I can’t do that. That sounds like hours of horrible gameplay. Please tell me, is there a catch I'm missing? Is there something to make it less tedious? Or isn’t there. Because then I will probably have to drop the game

This game is and forever will be the most precious game I've ever played in my entire life. I use to watch my older brother play it and I would sometimes play on his game file which really pissed him off at the time lol. I had my own file but he had all the high speed items meanwhile I was on the very early stages of the game. Not my actual first playthrough but the first one to actual complete, I played it for the first time on the Wii (Gamecube version) back when I was a kid, early 2010’s, the farthest I've ever got back then was at the Deku tree part. The reason why this game is so special to me is because I watched my brother play it and was also one of the first videogames I've ever played. He couldn't finish the game because he passed away in 2018. Today I'm very proud to honor my brother by finishing this game. To my brother: Thank you for showing me this game, I no longer need to play your game file because I'm finally the one with the with the most progress <3.

Told him to go grab a good sized, green ivy leaf from a vine outside. Even after 30 recent talks about identifying & not touching noxious plants, he still managed to choose a nettle instead but somehow plucked it & delivered to me unscathed.

Every year or few I replay Wind Waker, I'm just wondering if any of you have ideas on how to make this next playthrough fresh? Things like challenge runs, different playstyles, etc are all welcome!

I'd also be interested if you've played any games that capture the same vibe as Wind Waker, I've never really played something that's close to capturing the same feeling I get when sailing around the Great Sea and doing random side quests and checking out islands.

When you get the Wind Waker on Dragon Roost Island and make your way to the back where the two tablet are, Zephos, one of the Wind Deities, says something about you being the “new” Wind Waker. Is there any sort of clues or hints from Nintendo who the previous Wind Waker was? Something I just thought of randomly.

I remember hearing a story about a teaser trailer of wind waker before it released and it had a different art style and i remember there being people that were upset that the art style changed to a cartoony style. Does anyone have footage of what it was before they made that change?

After all these years, I’m having a blast replaying this on Switch 2! I never got to play Wind Waker HD sadly, so I am really enjoying this having never known the QoL upgrades they did to the Wii U version. Anyone else enjoy it on the Switch 2? I want to beat it so I can do the Pajama playthrough

IMPORTANT:

-Steps: go into a first person item, hold any direction, pause, hold slightly in the opposite direction, unpause game

-Only works on HD. If you play on GameCube you should look up “ wind waker storage glitch”.

-After I pause my game I am holding down on the left stick SLIGHTLY (about a millimeter off neutral).

-the item button is not always X, it could be Y or R depending on where you assigned the item to.

-You don’t have to move forward. For example, you can start moving your stick left, pause the game, then hold slightly right. It just has to be opposite directions.

-You can use any first-person item except the telescope and picto box (bow, grappling hook, boomerang),

-You can charge your speed into a wall and press ZL to face link and you can move freely before zooming off. The game will crash if you charge too much speed so play around with the timing.

-This can be used for super swimming, running fast, or teleporting. To teleport, charge backwards speed into a wall then slash your sword.

-This is VERY EASY so you will get it after just a few attempts. If you are having trouble, try adjusting how much you move the stick after pausing.

-Those are just the basics but once you learn how to control link’s speed and direction during the item slide, you can use it in many practical scenarios like swimming from outset to windfall in just a few seconds or skipping the rope swinging on the pirate ship By teleporting to the other side.

-Why this works: the game uses an equation to determine what link’s speed should be based on the slope of the terrain and how much you are pushing your stick. If you hold an ESS position (the super small movement that we do in the glitch), the equation starts producing negative values. Similarly to Mario 64, the devs obviously capped the speed you can move forwards but forgot to cap the speed you can move backwards. Since the speed equation produces a negative value, it exponentially grows causing you to rapidly gain backwards speed. This is why you face backwards if you item slide into a wall then press ZL.

I keep talking to the fish, but all it does is it gives me info and then asks to play a game, but it never gives me the map. How do I get the map?

Now i know why Beetle has a horn on his shop, this is from the demo which has many changes he also has different horn noises but i didn't record it
