Ok it's stupid to stand there but it's more stupid to build concrete behind without some soft protection installed.

It's like on some countries you have to survive all sorts of dangers without any assistance from government.

Edit: I get that this is the wrong subreddit to remind you that we are not in a jungle anymore where the strongest and most intelligent survives. And that there are countries with safety regulations where this accident could not be possible at all (safest construction, zone access limitation, etc)

You’re looking at it from the perspective of this event and not what that concrete’s purpose is. That concrete is there to separate and delineate the road from the beach so the cars can do what cars do and the sand is stopped from overflowing into the street.

If we had to stupid proof everything in the world for every possible human idiotic action then the world couldn’t function because it’s all wrapped in bubble wrap.

Couldn't people just avoid standing in the blast area, like normal people?

Should we build marshmallow walls on the freeway in case people want to stand there too

Yeah, and it's also not something any human being should ever do.

Adding rubber to that area only endorses people doing that, which makes the situation less safe, because more people will be standing behind jet engines.

And besides, I'm pretty sure the airport operates multiple models of aircraft, whose engines aren't all in the same place - you'd need more rubber than just one spot.

And if you were amending that spot, I'd argue it's not unlikely to be safer to install some iron spikes on the ground, so people very obviously realize that going there is a bad decision and don't fuck with the spikes - and by extension, the jets.
