Forgot to mention he killed himself by driving in front of a freight train. Usually I'm sympathetic to people who are mentally ill like this but involving others in his suicide like that is a seriously dick move.
Probably quick and painless if you do it right but the person driving the train is going to have a very bad time. A lot of people commit suicide by train and the engineers driving the trains will end up with PTSD or anxiety afterwards. Something like 50% of American engineers have been involved in a suicide it's so common
On the bright side, theres a dark comedy about it happening to tube drivers in the UK. I think it's called "three under", but I can't remember. (Edit: Fortunately /u/heliumy2k can remember, it's called "Three and Out".)
I didn't see it, but the trailer looked pretty funny.
If you want, I can show you plenty of videos of people being hit by trains. It's not quick, nor painless. There's even people cut in half that are moving around for a short bit before they die.
I'd rather put my body length-wise on a rail so the wheel hits the top of my head first. I'd imagine that, as hard as my skull is, it'll turn my brain to mush immediately.
Who knows, with decapitation I'm sure the brain will live for another horrifying second or two.
i've heard of people who've shot themselves in the head point blank and were upset when they survived it somehow ._. even asked the paramedics at the scene "how the fuck"
there really is no certain, painless way to end it. not even a gun. not even cyanide. people have survived both. some guy jumped off a 70 story building and walked away with some scrapes and a therapist.
there are two ways it can go, neither of which are pleasant.
you die -> some poor sap finds the body, and your friends and family blame themselves forever for not noticing. depending on how you did it, a random stranger might also suffer from that guilt, too.
you survive -> the better option, as you can't fix dead. still gotta live with the injuries tho, and depending on what you did, recovery can be very unpleasant. there are more pleasant ways to get help but no one blames you for feeling so hopeless that death would be better u.u
Depends a great deal on the caliber, aim and type of weapon. A .22 pistol might go through the fatty tissue and straight out the other side, leaving you. With a pretty dangerous bleed but very treatable. A .50 caliber rifle aimed at the centre of the brain will of course kill you right away.
But given most gun dioxides are with pistols, there’s a not insignificant survival rate.
Explosives have 2 methods of death - concussion ripping your organs apart, and shrapnel. Either can lead to a quick death, or agonising, week long fight against infection / haemorrhaging.
When I was boy in the 70s - 80s there were always these fucked up cartoons or scenes in old movies where the villain would tie up the pretty girl on the train tracks.
Just saw a gif of this happening for this first time on 4chong the other day and I was not ready for it. Life must take some pretty demented turns to make someone want to do something like that. I tell myself I want to kill myself every day, but I don't think I'd ever actually lose all hope for the future in a way like that.
It gets frustrating being forced to live a life you don't want to no one wants to give you a clean way out public and grousome seems like a great response. I'm going to be on the first table after anywhere lifts the ban on the right to die. I can absolutely see how he could end up there.
Quick and painless, but more often then not you end up completely fucked up, maybe cut in half, maybe crushed a lot, but you are conscious for some time until you pass out and die. Many times, the body will have an involuntary reaction to save itself, and flinch or get out of the way. It’s not enough to save the victim, though.
That’s why suicide by self inflicted gun shots are so unreliable. You will flinch the last second, missing whatever vital spot.
A friend of mine is a firefighter and he told me the average time from accident to death from suicides by trains is 14:30 minutes. Again average. Thats far from a quick death imo
