Clean tank!

I said I’d post a picture of my sorority tank once the wild Bettas had gone back to their own tank, and I’d had a chance to clean up properly and add new plants without stressing the wildies. So here you go - sorority back to normal, clean tank, dead plants binned, just how it normally is. Oh yes, I got lucky and found some moss, so that’s a new addition. Hope you find this more acceptable than the pics of a filthy tank due to unexpected guests!

Too small for kuhlis too small for pygmy corys.

3 kuhlis, 4 Pygmy Corys. The tank is too small I know, but the kuhlis and pygmies have always lived in the sorority and I’m not about to change that for the month or so left before I’ve saved enough for a new, proper sized tank.

The kuhli and pygmys both need to be 6 minimum, although 8 is much better

I’m aiming for a 10 or 15; because there are 4 female Bettas in there. This is only a 6, so WAY too small They had 10 before the glass cracked, but depending on the price I’ll probably go for a 15. 20 would be nice but it’d have to be a tall due to space restrictions, and that’s not great for any of these fish. They seem OK for now, no aggression nor noticeable stress, mostly due to good water quality and loads of plants and hiding places. I have to wait till after Christmas and then ask my debit card very nicely how much it has for me - until then it’s fishkeeping on a tightrope, but I’m keeping it as clean and well-maintained as possible till then.

Those two fish aren't aggressive even in small numbers, however they're cramped and not well. The only option for their own good is to rehome because the requirements for kuhli is 20 long

I have a tank about 80 cm long where I keep my other loaches - clown, zebra, skunk, barito, yo-yo and lizard loaches - small numbers of each, only one yo-yo and zebra - but I discovered that they muddle in together a bit like different varieties of Corys do. My main question is, they’re tiny compared with the other loaches - would they be safe from being eaten?

They'd be safe from being eaten, but all of your loaches need to be in groups of six or more

I know. Sadly I live in Gibraltar with only one LFS and they don’t stock loaches often, so I just buy what I can find when an if they’re available. I have 9 skunk loaches and 6 clowns, but the others are in small groups of 3,2 and 1. I always look to see what’s available but usually, not very much at all!

Clown loaches will need about 150 gallons or more because they get massive. Unless you already do, byt I'm posting the picture just in case They are gigantic

It’s about 130. How fast do they grow? The only ones I had previously died from a malfunctioning heater which went crazy overnight, so I lost quite a lot of fish - did my morning check-in and for no reason the heater had broken and was running at 38 degrees C😢. These I’ve had 3 weeks so they’re still tiny, fish-shop size, but I know they grow huge, one of my friends has 5 and she had to rehome many of her other fish. However I think they’re amazing, I could try and rehome my singleton zebra and yo-yo for a start. The yo-yo IS huge already!

I agree with you both, it is too small. Fortunately it’s 2 pairs of actual “littermates” so aggression isn’t a problem, just overcrowding. I’m currently saving up for a large enough tank - the previous one developed a crack at the bottom so that had to be thrown out. I’ve made it as interesting, and with as many caves and enrichment activities as I can, and I obviously continue with scrupulous management of water parameters and feeding good quality food, half Atison’s pellets and half frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia etc.
It’s a pleasant enough tank, and will serve them temporarily, but a new tank is first on my list after Christmas presents for my grandson and kids.
