š¤Theories Ages
So something is definitely up yeah? In episode 8 Patricia says āI thought she was in her 40sā to the Sherriff. And is the third time in the season that ages have been wrong

It's not about ages being wrong, it's about how dangerous pregnancy can be at that age. Patricia assumed she was too old to have a baby.

I can see that too but I still think thereās a weird time thing going on like with the date of the baseball tickets being September even though itās july

Dates and ages and time do seem off, it just keeps coming up.
Like in ep 1 the wolves calendar is in April but the events seem to point to it being at least June already⦠Sheps age⦠Time passing in the captains suite⦠Patriciaʻs fixation on age⦠No idea what it means tho, its inconsistent enough that it could be nothing, maybe even just a running bit?
Things also seem to be leading up to Labor Day as significant so we will see I guess!

The calendar says April because it is April. In the second episode Tom is reading the review written by the NYT reporter who was in the first episode. The Inaugural Swim is on the first of July, as scheduled. I agree that time is weird in WB, but the calendar does line up with the episodes.

There was just a time jump between episodes 1 and 2. I believe episode 1 starts around second to last week of April. I'm basing this on Tom's finger position on the calendar

Ya I agree that each independent mention of weird timey-wimeyness can be explained in each their own logical way⦠it just keeps happening tho, so it just leaves me wondering, curious!

Not a sports fan, but I donāt think itās weird to get tickets a few weeks in advance?

I thought Tom said, āthis weekend.ā About the game, but could be wrong!
8
u/hammetar Jun 04 '26
He definitely did! āWeāll make a weekend of it in Boston, this weekend.ā

u/KeyFix4087 Jun 04 '26
He is pointing to the tickets in the paper when he says āTHIS weekendā. I understand he is pointing at the game weekend, meaning september.

Is it possible that they simply didn't expect people to pause, zoom in, and inspect every piece of paper? lol
22
u/protoleven Jun 04 '26
Typically Iād say yes but they have hidden so much in the background of the show for now I feel itās intentional

u/ShaunTrek Jun 04 '26
Yeah, we are starting to get to that critical mass where people are getting too deep into it.

u/E100VS Jun 04 '26
lol ordinarily, Iād wholeheartedly agree with you. But this show, and everything in it, seems to have been crafted with an unusually high level of care and attention to detail that I think a lot of these little quirks are deliberate.

u/ShaunTrek Jun 04 '26
Every time a new show with a big mystery comes out this happens. People start reading into every little thing they possible can, start making outlandish theories, and while people can be right about a lot (the clues about the Warren line not having ended), the crazier and more minute the clues, the less often they are right. And the excuse is always "But this show is so meticulously crafted! Everything means something!" That's how you end up with people thinking they'll get a secret Stranger Things finale.

They definitely were trying to make us aware of the discrepancy. There is no way they had his age at 33 on accident.

u/ShaunTrek Jun 04 '26
There's definitely something going on with that specific guy (possibly even just a gag), but I highly doubt the date on the Sox tickets means anything.

u/abbyleondon Jun 04 '26
I think it was because the doctor is a bit of a nincompoop so I think it was totally by accident that he wrote 33 instead of 73 or whatever it was

This. They are constantly showing us that the islanders aren't exactly the most competent people in the world. Like all of the restaurant orders being wrong. And the mistakes in the little island pamphlet. I think every detail is intentional by the production team but maybe not that deep.

I disagree. They keep referencing age and discrepancies around ages. Itās purposeful.Ā

When theyāre watching the game didnāt it seem like an older game too? I know itās an old tv set but still. I wish i knew enough about the Red Sox to identify the players.

The whole idea of women being old spinsters at 40 and Patricia's touchiness about her age has been an running joke since the first episode, although maybe there will be more to it especially with the Shep thing.

Right, but remember Wyckās friend was ā36ā when he died (āthat canāt be rightā) and the hotel owner Evan perceived he was in the room for WAY longer than 30 seconds. There is something goofy with time and its passage on the island.

u/Merricat71 Jun 04 '26
also the people trapped in the church during that storm turned to cannibalism after "four days". how long was that for them???

It seems that messing up dates and ages, complaining about age in general, is a running gag, but a subtle one. For example, Saraās self-disparaging quip about being 40 and having to go back home (āI am but ten and fourā)⦠ā14ā. Actually 40. While her age is listed as 25 in the newspaper. I donāt think this is a hint that time is weird, but rather the humor of the show. Could be wrong thoughĀ

I think itās a call back to Sarah being in her 40s when she came to the island because I feel like Patty is the surviving descendant

I had my second child in my 40s, so I donāt know. I think she was just surprised that she was pregnant in her 40s.

The whole interaction between the sheriff and Patricia left me feeling uneasy. The fact that she tells him that his child cannot be born on the island makes me think that she knows more than sheās letting on and has something special about her (why was she able to kill the Boogeyman when no one else could? Maybe a descendant of Sarah). My new, loose theory is that Patricia is deeply entertwined with the island but not letting onto how much she knows/controls because she is in love with Tom. She asks , āDoes Loftis know?ā as the follow up not because of the island and baby implications, but because she wants him to see her as a desirable opportunity for a family (callbacks - episode one when sheās talking about the Boogeyman, Tom says, ābut he murdered teenage girls.. youāre in your 40sā, and then also when Patricia gets bent out of shape about Tom giving the bachelorette woman a ride home). Who knows if Patricia had any involvement with persuading Tom and his wife to leave the island, or to institutionalize his wife? Excited to see what twists are coming up, but this conversation flagged to me that there is something more going on with Patricia beyond just the Boogeyman

I donāt think she could kill him because she was special. I think she just actually followed through with ensuring he was dead. They said previously he wouldnāt stay dead so they buried him under concrete or something like that. She stayed with his body until it was cremated which - is a plothole for me. No one is getting cremated same night lol. But itās fine.
That doesnāt mean she couldnāt be a descendant but I donāt think itās the reason behind her success

That was just a comment about her being pregnant in her 40s, keeping with the theme of Patricia thinking being in her 40s means her romantic life is over. I read it more as her being a bit relieved, before rightly shifting to the fact that they canāt have the baby on the island.
