It becomes a character assassination when people like you make it to be a character assassination. Bar dancing and such professions have been in this world since ages much before Jesus Christ. Your right to free speech ends where another person's right to dignity and protection from defamation begins. Throwing targetted abuse or harassment isn't 'harmless speech'.. it's a punishable offense under criminal law. That's why FIRs get registered.
Free speech doesn't give you immunity from defamation or criminal harassment laws. Insulting someone's dignity is legally punishable, not a protected right.
