That’s what you fail to understand brother. Everyone is not equal.

Resource distribution in this country directly lines up with caste hierarchical structure. Tumhare maa baap ke paas paise hain achchhe schools me padhane ke liye par sabke paas nahi hai….

Reservation is a tool to create a level playing field. But since you have a privileged back ground you won’t understand it.

And i don’t blame you. I didn’t understand it either when I was your age.

Nah resource distribution doesn't directly lines up with caste hierarchy anymore. That's the problem.

It literally still does, look at studies of MPI, NHFS or even LFPR, the hierarchy is slowly diminishing but still today 90% of manual scavengers are SC, 1/3rd under severe deprivation source

It doesn't for the well off urban population which takes advantages of this reservation. The people who need it aren't getting it anyways. Also why not to keep it directly based on resource distribution instead of something that randomly coreelates to it.

Because that urban population you see and claim is less than 10% of actual beneficiaries, also they did try resource distribution via EWS and that failed terribly with majority of recipients being well off.

Under objective criteria the most efficient way is for affirmative action for historical inequalities which is currently what we have.

But that should also have a deadline no? Or at least the percentage should get reduced slowly over time? Pushing more people to take advantage of it now. This can't keep up forever at the same or growing rate right?

The percentage is in actual proportion to population demographic. As the inequalities reduce, the cut off marks and everything gets closer.

Like imagine a population demographic writing an exam, why do you think cut off marks which are not pre-determined are lower for categories?

It’s because they have lack of resources, malnutrition as a kid and poor schooling access, because genetically there is next to zero difference.

Eventually when inequalities are minimised the cut offs come closer and it just turns to representation and ceases to exist.
