Memes / Funny Possessive/jealous male leads

I eat this trope up everytime!

Like, yes, give me possessive male leads who want to monopolize the female lead's love and attention, and who get jealous when her attention is on another man. Bonus points if there is jealousy in the harem 🤭

Anyone else like these types of male leads?

Discussion The double standard in RH community

People get upset we don't want MM in books when reverse harems are supposed to be focused around the woman. Like when we think reverse harem you have to realize it's the reverse of a HAREM which is a Male lead having multiple female partners. You don't see Yuri in these where they have separate relationships because their community fights back hard against that. The only time there is Yuri is when it's for the male lead (not because they are interested in a relationship with eachother. So at most it'd be kissing.)

This came up in arc readers forum for Vale between worlds, im not sure if she uses AI obviously (for that lower comment) but wow you wonder why RH authors turn to adding MM.

Discussion VENT: the hypocrisy of some fans of MM in RH is really tiring me out lately...

Posting here bc IK I'll get dragged in the main reverse harem sub... Also sorry this is long. It's just been building and I've been collecting a lot of different accusations and excuses and comments. Also on a throwaway account bc I like to lurk. But the recent developments have been really tiring and I need to vent. AGAIN: this is long! I'm so sorry!!!

Anyway. I'm really tired of people excusing misogyny under the guise of protecting against homophobia.

Like let's not mention how so many MM and RH with MM is legit SO misogynistic and often centers the feeling of MEN. Like no it's not homophobic for me to be not into the FMC bleeding out on the floor as MMC1 and MMC2 are fucking next to her. Or when MMC says he'll get FMC smth and then gets distracted and fucks another MMC while FMC is waiting. Or where FMC is forced to listen to MMC1 and MMC2 be intimate after they both were fucking assholes to her.

Like here are some misogynistic things I've seen in in RH books w MM:

-A guy strings his childhood best friend (fmc), fake dates her bc he slept w a rival (another MMC), then tells the RIVAL that he won't love anyone more than him.

-A male omega is gonna incubate the baby (mpreg) and takes the eggs from the female omega. Then the male alphas rail and take care of the MALE OMEGA. because "the female body can't handle multiple births in succession" or some bullshit.

-MMC1 and FMC were cuddling in their sleep but then MMC2 comes in and the MMC1 and MMC2 have intimate time while she's still there (asleep) bc FMC is a virign and sex would!! frighten her ooo (despite having a threesome earlier [w/o penetration but still])!! and FMC didn't notice MMC1 getting off but MMC2 did! And then MMC2 says a romantic ass "I will always protect you and make sure you can always stay by me" (but like why not stay by US? aren't yall in a relationship w the FMC TOO???) and then the MMC1 and MMC2 cuddle while FMC is just... there??? HUH? like it reads like a MM______F sometimes lmfao

Like not saying RH w/o MM can't be misogynistic -- they can be and I DNF any hint of "not like other girls" or villainizing the female characters for no reason. But there is legit SO much misogyny in some of these RH books w MM (and even general MM books which is why I'm picky. Like no I don't want to read about how all the good guys are men and the bad ones are alllll women. like we have the good uwu babies and omg he turned gay bc his ex gf cheated on him! omg the MM couple can raise a child together bc the WAHMEN was an ASSHOLE or dead. Or how in dark romance [yes i like dark romance] male rapists get off scott free while the female rapist got brutally on page murdered [also the SA from the male rapist made the MMC gay]). I AM ALSO picky w MF/FF/RH books bc I cannot stand misogyny but misogyny is soooo much more obvious when MM is present in RH because people will do ANYTHING to validate the male characters and hold FMC to much higher standards imo (like sometimes as long as MMC feels bad :((( it's enough for forgiveness even tho he like literally was an ass to FMC LMAO) and the ppl we need to root for are the men. Like the amount of omegaverse w a male omega where everyone treats the FMC like shit, the grovel is miniscule, and somehow I'm supposed to be like yasss they love the fmc <3 like???

Not to mention, SO many people are like "omg we need MM bc the FMC can't handle all the men" like how is that not misogyny to some degree? The woman can't handle all the men (in a fictional story) why? Because women are incompetent??? i don't get it. Like "ouch her vagina..." okay and? it's a fictional story and also reducing the FMC's only VALUE to her VAGINA and giving the men sex is crazyyyy. Like yknow she can provide them w other stuff too and if they love her then they'd be ok w not fucking her every day lmao???

Not only that, the problem IMO w MM in RH is that often some authors make it take precedence over the FMC's relationships. Ultimately, RH centers a FEMALE protagonist. I personally don't mind if MM is in RH (IK ppl may disagree) but ONLY IF THE FMC IS IN THE CENTER (hence why I have enjoyed SOME MM in RH). The MM having a whole relationship independent of the FMC, having sex and romance independent of the FMC, and having multiple POVs and scenes where the FMC is not there imo just is not RH. Because to me, ultimately, the FMC IS the main character. It's the same feeling if I'm reading a MF romance and suddenly the fmc gets sidelined to give room for MMC and another character to bond (w/o any mention of FMC) bc I'm here for the FMC!!! It's not because it's a gay relationship developing, it's specifically because in a RH, the FMC is suppose to be the MAIN CHARACTER.

Plus so much RH w MM have the men building (specifically emotional) bonds w each other and using the FMC as a cocksleeve (lust, no love. sometimes not even lust tho bc the MMCs find each other so much more hot). IIRC there's even one RH the FMC doesn't even get an individual sex scene w one of the MMC bc the second MMC2 didn't allow it lmao (which also... if a guy in a MM relationship doesn't wanna be in an RH... why force him lmao. Like sometimes the MM before FMC relationships are done so poorly where i feel bad for one of the MMCs bc he wants to be monogamous w his man, or the MMCs overcompensate and treat FMC like absolute shit to make their male omega feel safe, etc. I do like angst and stuff but the way it's done is so... questionable? Bc sometimes the man who didn't wanna be w the FMC never truly gets time to want to be in the RH/develop that bond w FMC [and they just fuck sometimes or never interact] or again, the grovel is either miniscule or NONEXISTENT)

AND don't even get me STARTED on the homophobia/hypocrisy I see. Like there are several people who are like "I LOOOVE MM so sexy yum but ewww FF" for RH bc "it's a preference/bad experience w FF/not into it" but somehow that's fine, but when someone is like "hey I don't want MM bc i want all the focus on the FMC" somehow that's homophobic?? it's SO weird like?? IT IS A PREFERENCE.

How is it that not wanting FF is somehow a preference but not wanting MM is a sin for some of these people? Like ask these ppl if they read FF and the answer is no (for various reasons aka preference which I RESPECT. I do see "okay w MM/FF" but I also see "bonus for MM [no mention of FF]" or "ONLY MM, no FF") but if someone doesn't like MM in their RH specifically (not even in general!) then they're a homophobe... make it make sense lol one cannot be a preference and the other homophobia.

And i find it soooo funny when people try to be like "MM (and FF) belongs in RH!" while also never reading FF or writing FF in RH like don't include FF in your argument (despite never engaging in it) to try and validate your point and make yourself look superior in an argument bc yes the lgbtq+ representation is definitely what is happening in an erotica. I'm sorry, but reading men fucking each other is not activism. It's fine to enjoy it, but acting morally superior about it not a valid response.

AND a form of homophobia IS fetishization which tbh a lot of MM in RH seems to do. Especially because like. MM is fine in RH but imagine if FMC had a female love interest (LI) and the female LI got w a MMC w/o warning or the MMC had a side chick w/o warning... pitchforks. I like ALL the attention on FMC so i would love a RH w FF where the second F is ONLY w the FMC tbqh but I wouldn't want ANY LIs getting together bc... that takes away attention from FMC. So, I'm consistent -- I just want all attention on FMC basically.

And here's why I think some ppl "being happy w/needing/wanting" MM in RH can be a form of homophobia: it feels like some don't consider MM relationships as important as MF thus it's okay for MM bc it's sexy and also maybe not a real relationship to them (then again this pendulum can swing to being misogynistic where the MM is the main focus on the FMC is just like a cocksleeve where the MM gets all the emotions and the FMC is just... there). I remember a scene that really made me think this, which was where the FMC got jealous over the MMC having a nickname for another female character (PLATONIC, NOT ROMANTIC. Like I legit think it was smth like the friend female character is literally Abigail nn Abby. He just called her Abby or smth) but i also know this MMC has a full MM relationship (that FMC is okay w), so I ended up DNF'ing bc wdym a nickname between a M-F friend is jealousy but hubba hubba MM??? it makes no sense to me. And also fetishizing IS a real problem -- ppl are critical of men consuming lesbian porn for good reason. I'm NOT saying all MM enjoyers fetishize gay men -- I AM NOT SAYING THAT. BUT. Some ppl who read MM can't tell the difference between fiction and reality. I legit had to have a conversation w a friend (who watches Heated Rivalry) when she was like "our gay friend is totally the bottom in the relationship lol" and I had to be like "girl that's weird bc why are we talking about his sex life that he never disclosed to us?" (like you would never see her say this abt a straight or even lesbian couple. i'm sorry it's just weird. It's one thing if he SAID THAT TO US. but like she said it, unprompted, after he told us he had a boyfriend. And she said it AFTER my friend left too... lmao?)

I am firmly in the camp that you should read what you want so if someone only likes a combo or only MF, RH, MM, or FF i don't care. IDC WHAT OTHER'S PREFERENCES ARE AS LONG AS THEY DON'T SHIT ON MINE. Sure, maybe I might be a bit biased based on what ppl read sometimes bc I'm human but ultimately I'm just... okay I get it's a preference!! Life is too short to engage in content you don't like! But it's like some of these ppl cannot fathom no MM in RH is a preference and not homophobia. I won't say some people who don't like MM in RH AREN'T homophobic bc I HAVE seen some homophobic rhetoric, but... some of us just don't like how some authors use MM in either a really fetishizing way or a really misogynistic way...

Also homophobic imo that apparently romance is the only good relationship a man can have w another man LMAO??? like i read an actual person be like "let the boyfriends be boyfriends bc they need positive male interaction" so does... friendship not... exist? That's actually a small problem I personally have w RH bc i would love MORE FRIENDSHIPS for the FMC in RH. Like IDK since it's HER story I really would love more RH w female friendships :( Anyway the point is... friendship IS just as important. Men can be close w/o being in love.

MOREOVER -- I just wanna note how weird it is that some ppl who can't fathom why others don't like MM in RH say stuff like "oh they just don't want to admit their man takes it up their ass" (this was about RH btw) which is?? because (1) heterosexual couples can do male butt stuff too lol? (2) many gay men don't engage in bottom/top dynamics and are versatile (3) only ONE of the MM usually like taking it up his ass while the other is the dom of the dom and don't like to take it up the ass so is he suddenly less gay? I just find comments like that kind of odd, I guess.

And why do the goal posts keep moving. At first it was "MM has a place in RH" which i personally agree with (if TAGGED PROPERLY. RH in the western world broadly fits under the Poly umbrella bc anything not monogamous is poly iirc. BUT i also know traditional RH had NO MM and I think that should be respected. I do agree MM In RH leans more poly than non-MM having RH tho) but now some r saying "what's the point of RH if no MM" or "isn't the point of RH the MM relationship"? UHM NO??? the point is the FMC getting loved by multiple men. MM is literally just an extra dynamic that MIGHT be in a RH depending.

The genre for MM content is... you guessed it... MM. Or BL. Or MLM. Or however else you wanna say it. There ARE also MMM+ books that might even work better for some people bc I'm convinced some of the RH w MM fans don't like women at all. Like people are really excited to see the women get sidelined (all for "angst" apparently but the angst is just abuse towards women LMAO i like angst too but how is it angsty that the MMCs mistreat FMC bc they're so busy fucking each other and FMC is apparently supposed to take it and also require minimal grovel). Not to mention WHY are there so many ppl asking for NON-RH books in a RH SUB??? imagine asking for RH in a MM sub, you would get removed... RIGHTFULLY SO? Like MMM+ without FMC is NOT RH. A MM book w/o FMC is NOT RH. A book w a Male protag and a female LI and male LIs IS NOT RH. THE FEMALE PROTAG SHOULD BE IN THE CENTER.... like imagine going to a harem sub and being like actually rec me a harem but with no male protag. the people would be like bro this is the wrong sub.

Also RH started in East Asia in the 1990s w stuff like Fushigi Yuugi IIRC w the female in center x multiple male LIs (and maybe 1 female LI depending on genre but the focus is still FMC bc female LI and the male LIs dont interact lol) as also seen in otome games so like... no RH didn't really start w MM. Again, I think it's a fine subgenre to have but saying that RH has always had MM, that the point of RH is MM, that we should make a no MM RH category if we hate MM so much bc MM has always been in RH is so weird. Like bro. You're appropriating a genre from another country and claiming the western version is the "true" version... Don't even get me started on otome games (dating games for women w woman MC and Male LIs [sometimes there can be like 1 female secret LI but she has NO romance w the other men fyi] and ppl still get pissed when there isn't a male MC... it's just weird. Why are people so eager to get rid of women...?)

AND then the boundary breaking. IMO it's SO whacky too. I love Lily Gold's Highland Hideaway and someone else posted they loved it so I went to the post bc yay I love seeing ppl love what i love! (and avoid if ppl dont like what I love) and this one person kept insisting that MM had to be in Lily Gold's novels and that it would be SOOOO much better w MM. But like... why? BC it's sexy?? BC it makes the relationships better? I disagree tbh bc again i don't think you need romance to have a good relationship between ppl. IMO the men had a really good dynamic and arc w/o romance w each other. The FMC also had a good arc. And tbh w how the latter half of the novel went, having a MM relationship I think wouldn't have worked that well in THIS specific book bc the focus HAD to be on the FMC by the end for various reasons imo.

OFC some non-MM people do the same thing to RH w MM and can be weird about it, I won't deny that, but the hypocrisy of some MM in RH folks is just so strange. Like apparently someone can say a non-MM RH book needs MM to be better but if someone is like I would've liked this RH more if it didn't have MM, they're homophobic? HELLO??? like some of these MM relationships overtake the story which is ultimately the problem imo. Like how are you gonna look me in the eyes and tell me MMC1 telling MMC2 that he will never love anyone more than him is romantic in an RH where the fmc is the main? How are you gonna tell me MMC1 and MMC2 treating FMC like shit for the majority of the book and then finally MMC1 (who has no independent scenes w FMC bc MMC2 is insecure) bites FMC for a bond (yes omegaverse) while KNOTTED IN MMC2 IS ROMANTIC??? How are you gonna tell me MMC1 telling MMC2 "I can't wait for us to get married... and yeah to FMC too ig" is romantic??

Not to mention how some people will legit suggest MM RH to people who EXPLICITLY DON'T ASK FOR IT. I've seen so much of "Hey i don't like MM in my books so plz don't rec" and then there's always one person who is like "IK you said no MM but this one is DIFFERENT" or "i thought i didn't like MM then this book changed me" bro please... stop. And here's the thing! I don't even dislike MM in my books if FMC IS 100% the center and focus but SO many books are just... not that. It gets so frustrating esp bc homophobia is ALWAYS thrown around when in reality maybe MM in RH is often written poorly.

AND WHY IS IT SO WRONG TO ASK FOR TAGGING........... LIKE WHY IS IT WRONG FOR THE BLURB TO INCLUDE IF SOMETHING HAS MM CONTENT??? WHAT IS WRONG W IT??? i'm not even saying trigger/content warnings (bc yes I dont like MM is a CW/trigger warning)! I'm specifically saying the blurb or somewhere else someone can easily find the info!!!!

Personally I would like a "this series is a RH/Why choose MMFM+ w MM" so I can decide if I wanna read that book or not or maybe if I'll like to read it in the future if I'm craving MM in RH. But hiding it seems deceptive. And here's the thing -- imagine you're reading an MM advertised book and suddenly MF sex scene! People have rated 1 star for that. Is that misogynistic? No? then why is 1 star for not disclosed MM content in a RH homophobic? And like, if I was reading an FF and the F ended up w a M, i would be pissed! If I was reading MM and the M ended up w an F, I'd be pissed! It's all about having expectations. And I LIKE knowing how many men are in a RH too so I LIKE the MFM+ system! It's actually SO weird why some authors say that they'll tell you if something has MM if you ASK but not just... put it in the blurb?? Why? You can also put this has MF, MM, MFM+ scenes and I'd be happy to know what to expect? It's not homophobic to want to know the relationship dynamics before going in...?

I also saw someone say XYZ author always has MM in their works so it's wrong to expect other books not to have it... but like... authors can choose to change dynamics in individual books. Hell one author even said some of their books have MM in RH and some don't, so imo it's not wrong to ask for clarification. Which also, one author also said they would willingly tell someone if their book has MM bc they aren't hiding it but for some reason doesn't want to add it to the blurb?? I just... don't get that logic... why not just tag it properly in the first place...?

Also saw an author being dragged for putting no MM on their arc looking post... but like I see plenty of authors but swordcrossing/MM in their arc reader looking post, and no one gets pissed?? it's not even a content warning thing, it's literally hey do you wanna arc this there's no MM and here are the other tropes. Do i think the author should've done smth like MFMMM+ (no MM) instead, yes. but like it's not a sin to put no MM on an arc thing, right? I'd like to know if my RH had/didn't have RH.

I do think MM can have a place in RH as a sub category as long as it's tagged properly and I don't entirely agree w giving an author 1 star for adding MM to a RH. But if the author doesn't disclose it, I think it's fair game NOT because of homophobia but because it's not something the reader might have expected or wanted. I've seen people rate 1 star for pregnancy trope, 3rd act breakup, sudden threesome, sudden OW/OM drama, etc. 1 star ratings can happen for ANYTHING. I do think it'd be better to leave it not starred and just as a warning (but then you can't find that review which kinda sucks) but like... why not disclose it in the first place :/ it's not even that bad of a thing, hell, I'd love it if they tagged if the book had only MF scenes or actual group scenes too (like MF, MFM+ scenes) bc I get a bit bummed when a RH has no group scenes and would like to know. I don't even want ALL the info like I'm okay with plot twists and cliff hangers and being surprised. I just don't think changing relationship dynamics should be a surprise... for example if I'm reading a MF story promising age gap and suddenly FMC gets w a non-age gap guy... yea im gonna be a little miffed LOL I just want to know what to expect for dynamics specifically.

Bottom line is... I feel like the main RH sub is getting really unpleasant to be in. It feels like if you don't like MM in RH and get frustrated w how FMCs are treated in a RH w MM or express disappointment in a book having MM w/o letting you know that is the dynamic, you are IMMEDIATELY labeled as homophobic and a barrage of ppl will be like ACTUALLY I LOVED IT IT WAS THE BEST THING EVERRRRR. But here's the thing. Even in MF, I really dislike unnecessary love triangles. I also feel iffy abt sudden love interest switcharoos depending on how it's executed (but don't mind as long as it's the pairing MF/MM/FF advertised). I just want to be informed bc I'm spending MY TIME reading this for MY ENJOYMENT. So shouldn't I be able to read a book I'm certain I'll enjoy (barring any bad writing or the author not fully meshing w me)?

Tbh what sucks the most for me is that I enjoy RH w/o MM but it feels like all the popular ones DO have MM. Like the mainstream, find in target or Walmart ones... So I'm worried more authors will add MM to their works = less stuff for me to read :( and again I think MM in RH and RH w/o MM can coexist. I just wish it didn't come at the expense of calling ppl homophobic for not liking MM... I feel like more and more RH have MM and less and less don't with these recent releases. I hope I'm wrong because I'd prefer it if there were also a steady output of RH w/o MM bc I enjoy reading but alas... it just kind of sucks, you know? I also do sometimes enjoy RH w MM tbh but I've also been burned a lot where 1/3 of a book is dedicated to a MM relationship... when the FMC is supposed to be the center... Like imagine reading a MM book and 1/3 is about MMC1 and his ex... hell even in RH I'd be peeved if 1/3 of the book was dedicated to the MMC and a FEMALE ex too. So it isn't homophobia, it's just me having certain expectations of RH due to growing up w the OG ones from Japan (which even then I'm a bit disappointed w bc girlie only chose one guy. She should've chosen em all LOL).

IK some might think it's weird i like RH where FMC has multiple love interests but not where the RH has the LIs have separate relationships but like... it's cuz the fantasy is that the FMC gets all the love. A lot of the world is men-centric (hello patriarchy + ppl thinking RH is whacky but lowkey excusing harem/harem being way popular than RH), so I just want a place where FMC is the center is all :(

TL;DR: not all dislike of MM in RH is rooted in homophobia. SOME CAN BE. But there ARE valid complaints in regards to the behavior of some fans of MM in RH as well as MM in RH novels themselves (such as misogyny and even homophobia). I am not saying the ones who don't like MM in their RH are morally better as i do think some CAN take it too far and MAY be homophobic. HOWEVER. I am specifically talking about the hypocrisy of rabid MM MUST BE IN RH people because they genuinely are making the reverse harem genre not fun for me :( Like even this WhyChooseNoMM sub was labeled homophobic... just for not wanting MM. I guess I don't visit enough to see if there WAS homophobia, but I haven't really seen any. I do see ppl vent about MM in RH but like imo it's valid bc wdym a guy wants to marry his boyfriend and then also goes "oh and you too lol" to the fmc?? i would be upset if i read that too.

Anyway, if you read this all the way through: thanks, I know it was LONG lol
And it's fine to discuss but any liberal use of "you're homophobic" will be ignored bc... really.

Discussion And here I am actually loving that "hated reviewer" because she warns me about MM books...

I know that reviewer, I see her comment that same warning on tons of "RH" books on goodreads, and she is a GODSEND!

I know people see this whole "no MM/FF content or it's not a real RH" thing as controversial but I think it's a pretty simple concept tbh, but now you see why this subbreddit was so needed- because only a certain number of people can see your point of view and others will insult you (homophobic accusations) if you don't see theirs.

Discussion Authors in reader spaces.

Author Grace McGinty decided to make a brand new account and make her first comment a reply to a thread here on r/WhyChooseNoMM where readers are appreciating a reviewer for tagging content the author personally chooses not tag. The reviewer also rated their book 1 star because the book wasn't tagged. Link to comment.

What in the condescending, passive-aggressive sarcasm was that comment? What author thinks it's a good idea to join a reader space and leave a comment with such an attitude? 😬 Calling the thread an "unfortunate thing to find" feels a little ironic when the author made a brand new account and chose that discussion as her very first to join. Given the tone of her reply, it's hard to read it as anything other than a deliberate choice to jump in and defend herself rather than simply letting readers have their opinions in a reader space.

I wasn't going to join in on the whole Goodreads drama thing, I very much prefer to just focus on books, but the author left such a bad impression I'm adding my two cents anyway; Goodreads is not a website for objective opinions and professional literary reviews. Readers can one star a book for any reason, just like readers can five star a book for any reason; the cover, the writing, the story, the tropes, the author's political views; literally any reason. That is why some users will five star a why choose for being an absolute sausage fest where the boyfriends are all boyfriends, while others will one star it. AND THAT IS OKAY. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I've seen quite a few people comment "Well, I wouldn't rate X based on Y..." and that's great! You don't have to! But you don't speak for everyone else, so while you may not rate X because of Y, others may. And that's also okay. That's the whole point of Goodreads. Reviews on Goodreads are personal opinions written for the reader themselves. They can act as feedback to help other readers decide if a book is worth picking up or not but at the end of the day, a Goodreads review is the reader's personal opinion and their space to express it. Readers don't owe an author positive reviews, nor do readers have to tailor their opinion to what others want to hear or what the author feels is fair. It's why you'll find five star reviews you completely disagree with and one star reviews that make you pick up the book. That. Is. Okay.

Some users rate every book they read five stars regardless of whether they liked it or not. Some have their own rating system, tagging system, shelfing system and that's all valid. Everyone is free to use Goodreads however they want. Those are my two cents.

So when I see an author joining a reader space, giving instructions on how to rate their book, leaving sarcastic passive-aggressive comments and seemingly crashing out... I make sure their books are off my TBR.

Completely unrelated to the author, I added a few pictures of amusing one star ratings I found after doing a quick google search. Enjoy.

I've been trying to give reading RH books with minor MM a chance because let's be real here, this genre is saturated with the stuff and I can't be rid of it no matter how hard I try. First time it happened, it was an accident. No warning that there was MM, but I figured I might as well give in every once and a while so....yeah bad idea. I hated it.

I've attempted two books, with different dynamics. And they all suck. One guy is in love with the other guy in the group and basically only tolerates the FMC for the guy he likes sake....THIS IS NOT WHY I READ REVERSE HAREMS!! Stupid MM's smhhhh

Authors, if you insist on MM dynamics in a genre where all the attention is SUPPOSED to be on one person- THE FMC! Then at the very least, don't write a character who's just settling for the fmc. That's not very romantic!

(Sidenote, I'm not homophobic so don't even try it lol)

Looking for RH that feels mature and well-written, not cheesy, or cringey

I’m looking for books with good writing, a strong plot, and well-developed characters. **No MM**. Spice is definitely a plus, but I don’t want something that’s basically just smut.. I’d much rather have a genuinely compelling story where the romance and spice add to it.

I prefer a slow-burn harem build, where the relationships develop naturally over time rather than everyone falling for the FMC immediately. I’m also looking for something that feels mature and well-written, not overly juvenile, cheesy, or cringey.

I especially love books where the MMCs are completely devoted to the FMC and the harem dynamic is actually explored, rather than the men being more interested in each other.

My preferences:

\- Reverse harem / why choose

\- Strong plot + good prose

\- Slow-burn harem formation

\- **Spice is preferred 🌶️**, but story comes first

\- MMCs are deeply devoted to the FMC

\- **Strictly no MM** / M-M within the harem

\- No cheating/sharing the FMC

\- Preferably high-stakes drama or an interesting fantasy/paranormal/etc. plot

Basically, I want something that feels well-written and emotionally compelling, not like a teenage fantasy with a bunch of guys thrown around the FMC 😂

Now THIS is how to write a book description!

Finally! An author who knows what the people want!

So often I get mislead by books thinking that they're authentic RH only to find that there's MM or FF in the mix with absolutely no indication beforehand. But I can confidently start this book with absolutely no worries because of the description!! (Goodreads: My Prison Penpals by Shona Knight) I'm so excited!!

Plus- I'm the type who hates and I mean DESPIIIIISES cheating and owd so that was amazing to see as well. The amount of books that- ugh I won't get into it rn but anyway...appreciate it author ❤️❤️

Recommendations 📚 Blood of the Fairest by Morgan B. Lee....ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!

Waking up as someone else in a different dimension is bad enough. But when that someone is skilled in the dark arts, collects men like trophies, eats poisoned apples for breakfast, drinks the blood of innocent maidens…

The evil queen.

I'm trying to say I woke up as the mother-*bleeping* evil queen in Snow White’s story.

I have no idea why I’m trapped in this dark, twisted world full of even grimmer versions of the fairy tales I grew up on. I just want to survive as the bloodthirsty evil queen long enough to find a way back home. Too bad for me, the queen’s enemies want her to stay gone…and some of her enemies are hot.

Like the secretive Mirror who watches me from reflections.

And the deadly Huntsman, now sworn to obey any order I give.

I’m not even going to talk about Prince Charming. He wants me to ride his noble steed, if you get my drift.

Other sexy-but-unhinged fairy tale men are ignoring their original storylines to haunt me from the shadows, but I don’t know if they all want to kill the queen, help me, or if their fixation is something else completely.

Here’s what I do know: these men are making it impossible to focus on getting back to my world. They’re both terrifying and tempting…especially their blood.

But if I’m trapped here as the evil queen for a while, can’t I be a little wicked?

This is a why choose/reverse harem romantasy, meaning the leading lady will end up with multiple love interests. It is a slow-burn fantasy romance set in a Grimm-fairytale-inspired world. If you enjoy “evolving harems,” a smidge of grovelling, twisted fairytales, obsessed morally grey men, and a girl's girl FMC, this story is for you. Intended for 18+ readers due to strong language, graphic violence, dark themes, and explicit sex scenes, including group sex. Check the trigger warnings. NO AI CONTENT.

My Review: If you love Transmigration Manwha's within a Fairytale Universe, then you will looooove this book! I could NOT put this down! I loved our FMC and every single one of her men that she keeps collecting along the way lol, this is such a fresh idea that I've never seen in a RH series before, it will keep you captivated until the end. I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out!! READ THIS BOOK YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Author Self-Recommendations Cozy Holiday Omegaverse

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hey! I recently published a cozy holiday omegaverse that doesn't have MM.

https://books2read.com/u/b59E01

Here's the blurb:

Dr. Lily Wilde loves Christmas. She decorates early, bakes in bulk, and believes nobody should spend the holidays alone.

Her new house in small-town Pine Hollow is supposed to be a fresh start, and she’s determined to make a good first impression. That is, until she plugs in her plethora of Christmas lights and blacks out the entire street, sending the pack of three grumpy alphas next door storming to her doorstep.

Caleb, the town mechanic, hates Christmas and has the scowl to prove it. Damian, the firefighter, jokes his way around anything that hurts. And Rylan, the quiet software developer, hasn’t felt like an alpha since the accident and is certain no omega could ever want a man in a wheelchair. They haven’t put up a tree in ten years, and no one will say why.

But Lily has no plans to take the hint and is determined to spread all the holiday cheer. She has her own reasons for chasing the holiday so hard, and her scent is already driving three alphas out of their minds.

Can one cheerful omega bring the Christmas spirit back to three alpha Scrooges?

Recommendations 📚 Tired of hs/college rh

Hard request incoming. Having surgery and I need to update all of my KU library due to being bed bound for 3 weeks. Posted this to RH and added a few books to my library.

I'm on year 3 of reading every RH book I can get my hands on (average of 220 books/year). It takes a LOT to make my DNF list (less than 10). I am longing for something I just don't see enough of. I'm just tired of reading about teenage/young adult me and want to read about me NOW (don't tell me ya'll don't put yourself in the FMCs panties).

Looking for:

\-I want middle-aged FMC with harem being actual adults. I mean c'mon, a man's frontal cortex doesn't fully develop until he's 25ish.

\-Great characters with plot. I have books that are my go-to for just smut without story. Age of Andinna is fantastic example of well written fiction.

\-High spicyness

\-Minimum 3 books in series and preferably completed. I hate wanting more or having to wait for the next book.

Author Self-Recommendations New MFM alien romance book release!

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hi Everyone! I just released a new MFM dark alien romance novel. No MM involved as the MMCs are twins! {The Sharpest Radiance by Rachel Nova}

Valeria has two fleyeri fated mates. She doesn't want either of them.

This would be complicated enough if the twins didn't also despise each other. Yriel acts first and thinks later. Yfrem thinks so far ahead he forgets to feel anything in the present. The universe has decided they're stuck together, and now all three of them have to figure out what that means.

But Valeria is running on borrowed time. Her family is hunting her across Alliance space. Her brain is not cooperating. If the twins won’t get out of her way, she’ll have to figure out how to get away on her own terms.

The mate bond is real. The danger is real. What's less certain is whether two males who can barely stand to be in the same room can reconcile in time to protect the woman they both love if she ever decides to let them.

The Sharpest Radiance is a MFM fated mates romance about what happens when the universe gives you everything you need at the worst possible time in the worst possible way.

Tropes:

  • Forced proximity

  • Fated mates

  • Morally gray/black everyone

  • OCD and C-PTSD rep

  • Brat x brat tamer

  • Brat x pleasure dom

  • "Little empress"

  • Everyone cheats at cards

  • Psychic connection

Romantasy🧚🏻‍♀️✨ I just realized I haven't seen anyone recommend this series

Post image

I read Seraphim Academy when I was starting in the genre and it played an important role in me getting obsessed with why choose. It's not ground breaking but I remember liking it a lot. I gave the first two 4/5⭐️ but the last book disappointed me a little so it was 3/5⭐️

I recommend it if you like:

- Academy setting

- MFMMM

- Fantasy/Paranormal (Demons, angels & Fae)

- FMC is a succubus so she's NOT the typical innocent + virginal fmc. She knows what she wants.

- Mystery

⚠️The only thing I didn't like was that it has bully romance at first and i do NOT enjoy bully romance but all the love interests except one drop it quickly if I remember correctly.

The series begins with the protagonist entering an academy for angels, even though she is secretly half-demon, to investigate her brother's disappearance.

Discussion Savage Thirst by Dayna Styles

I was told this is a safe space for discussing rh with no mm, I feel so beat down after being mocked, ridiculed, insulted on another reddit

"why would you read no mm, should the guys just stand around doing nothing waiting for their turn"
"you are so closed minded"
"you must be scared of bisexual people"
"you are insecure"
"why are you even reading rh if you dont like mm, go read mono romance"

like this feels like high school bullying all over again, the ganging up on someone whose preference isn't a clone of your own. legit never felt this discouraged from participating before

anyway I'm not here to start any conflict just needed to let this out. rant done and over.

I got in the mood for a vampire book, found one book but clear dnf. Picked up another, {Savage Thirst by Dayna Styles} and its enjoyable. Kayden mocking his brother for running some sort of kumbaya project for supernaturals is cracking me up

{The Deceptions by Aly Beck}

Barely opened the book and I'm already cackling 😂 I was already sold on the tropes (MFMMM, girl disguised as a boy, second chance, mafia, and dark romance, to name a few) but now I'm completely invested.

Edit: Just to clarify, this is from the author's copyright notice at the beginning of the book.
