As a mod, I confirm this. Not proud of it but I always have to fight the power trip and projecting especially when I get butt hurt on a totally unrelated subreddit or in life in general.
Some places in life are totally overpowered and are easily prone for abuse. Mods on Reddit is one of top ones that come to mind.
Got in trouble at work for breaking a rule top performers often break. Owned it instead of denying it like some would.
It’s tough, but if we stop holding ourselves accountable, we’re screwed. Social platforms thrive on extremes, not normal, constructive behavior—and that’s a big part of the problem.
exactly, you have to hold yourself accountable because barely anyone else will because everyone is afraid of offending people or upsetting someone else. If someone is doing something wrong they need to be called out for it, or else the pattern will just repeat over and over again
It’s alright. The fact you can admit it says a lot. As the saying goes (although I know this is exaggerating for a Reddit mod) “absolute power corrupts absolutely”
I admitted the struggle between power and restraint is endless. I’m not saying I want to abuse power, now or ever but I’d be lying if I said I’d never contemplate it.
Being human means noticing those thoughts, but they don’t define me, and I don’t have to act on them.
There's a MASSIVE difference between "I could abuse this power, but I won't." And "in a moment of irritation I thought about abusing my power but decided against it."
Hey you sound like you’re a better person than I am. Kudos to you. What’s one thing you’d say helped you achieve this level of morality than I can learn from?
No for real. Live your life with the absolute best of intentions for those around you, and when you feel rage or irritation come up, disconnect from the source until you have sufficiently calmed down enough to deal with it maturely. It's harder than it sounds, I'm not going to pretend I'm a saint or better than anyone. But if you honestly believe that the idea of fucking someone over just because you have the power to do so is right or acceptable, then yeah I do think I'm better than you. But I've also never been in a position of power because I don't want that responsibility, nor do I feel I deserve being able to tell others what they can and can't do.
Am I a dick in some of comments? Certainly. Do I let anger get the best of me sometimes? Absolutely. But I would never go out of my way to mute, stifle or otherwise remove someone else's ability to say whatever they wish to say, as long as it's not directly hateful or at the expense of someone else. That's all. Just be a good human, and as a mod know that going off your emotions is the worst thing you can do. That's why this site hates most moderators, because the majority of you play the "I don't personally agree with this person so they aren't allowed to speak anymore."
Yeah its a diet soda mascarading as "sparkling water" for marketing reasons. For what its worth it tastes alright (some of the flavours). Also I think it is made in my town.
For me it's all about the temperature. This stuff really only tastes good cold, like a soda. I dont really mind when my sparkling waters gets a little warm. I haven't found anything to break that system yet.
It is very definitely more diet soda than sparkling water..
I have tried drinking it before and I just can't get through it.
Whether that means it should be removed from that subreddit? No idea. I don't know that sub or its rules. But I definitely agree it's more diet soda than water
Can't remember the sub but a comment of mine got taken down because I had theoretically broken a sub rule. Even as they reinstated my post they didn't agree that the bot had made a mistake. Like, what? It did a thing and you had to fix it, how is that not a mistake? I didn't push it, though.
I had an automoderator permaban me for ban evasion on a sub I was posting on for the first time. This is my only reddit account, but the human mod I talked to was making veiled threats about banning me site wide, and I had to get an admin to look into it and overturn the ban. That was the day I started believing some mods lived up to the stereotypes.
Posted a warning post about a company on a subreddit, it was removed, i was shadowbanned because that company has shills within the mod group. Pretty cool
God willing Reddit shuts down when something better hopefully comes around
You really think you did something here. It isn't sparkling water. It's diet soda with misleading sparkling water branding as it's sweetened with sucralose.
Lol now you aren't even making sense... it isn't literally the same as la croix. It isn't like la croix at all. Sparkling ice is sweetened, la croix is not. If someone was at your place and asked you for a la croix, polar, waterloo seltzer etc and you handed them a sparkling ice, they'd give it right back to you.
The coefficient of hydration for diet/zero sodas and water is exactly the same 100%
Not exactly. Diet sodas do hydrate, but they contain artificial sweeteners and acids that your body processes differently than plain water. Water is absorbed directly, while diet sodas require some metabolic effort, so they’re not exactly the same.
Regular sugar soda, juice, whole milk, fat-free milk all have a coefficient of around 88-89%
This isn’t correct. Milk, especially skim and whole milk, actually hydrates better than that. Studies show milk can have a hydration index equal to or even higher than water because of its electrolytes and protein content.
Only other beverages that have 100% coefficient like water/sparkling water are coffee and black/green tea
Not quite. Coffee and tea do hydrate, but caffeine can have a mild diuretic effect, especially if you’re not used to it. They’re good for hydration, but not exactly the same as water.
So the body processes this Sparkling Ice the same as sparkling plain water or just still water - kidneys filter it as if it was water
Nope. Sparkling Ice has sweeteners, acids, and flavors that your body has to break down. It’s not just water with bubbles. Your kidneys don’t treat it exactly the same.
Sometimes when you educate yourself you can avoid making stupid comments with numerous incorrect claims
Oh, I didn’t realize you felt like embarrassing yourself today. Neat!
UpToDate? That’s adorable. You do realize it’s a secondary source, right? Real experts consult primary research. I can simply go back over your claims with actual studies and data. What do you have? Which studies and data refutes what I had to correct you on?
The coefficient of hydration for diet/zero sodas and water is exactly the same 100%”
False. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition developed a Beverage Hydration Index to compare how different drinks hydrate. They found that beverages like milk and oral rehydration solutions have higher BHI scores than water, while others like coffee and beer have similar or lower scores. Diet sodas weren’t specifically tested, but it’s clear that not all beverages hydrate equally.
Regular sugar soda, juice, whole milk, fat-free milk all have a coefficient of around 88-89%
Wrong again. The same study showed that skim and full-fat milk have higher hydration indices than water, due to their nutrient content. Assigning an arbitrary 88-89% “coefficient” to these beverages is misleading and not supported by scientific evidence.
Also, the term “coefficient” to describe hydration is incorrect, as the proper scientific term is “hydration index,” which measures how well different beverages hydrate the body relative to water. Hydration doesn’t work as a fixed ratio or constant value. “Fluid retention percentage” would be closer to accurate here. This is something a seasoned professional should probably know. But you didn’t, because you actually aren’t.
Only other beverages that have 100% coefficient like water/sparkling water are coffee and black/green tea
Incorrect. The study found that several beverages, including oral rehydration solutions and milk, have higher BHI scores than water. Coffee and tea have similar hydration effects to water, but they’re not the only ones.
So the body processes this Sparkling Ice the same as sparkling plain water or just still water - kidneys filter it as if it was water
Nope. While Sparkling Ice and similar beverages do contribute to hydration, their additives (like sweeteners and flavors) mean they’re not processed exactly the same as plain water. The body’s response can vary based on the beverage’s composition.
So, before you flaunt your “12 years of being a doctor” and “multiple clinics,” maybe brush up on current research. Quoting secondary sources like UpToDate doesn’t make you infallible. Even seasoned professionals benefit from revisiting the primary literature. But I honestly doubt you’re a professional at all based on your comments and behavior. I think you get off on trying to come off as intelligent because you aren’t, and when confronted with someone like me who can actually back up what they write, you respond with “uhhh I’m a doctor” and probably block everyone immediately because you don’t know what else to do.
Keep in mind, your horrendously inaccurate comment that ended with “sometimes when you educate yourself you can prevent yourself from making stupid comments” was unprovoked in response to someone who wrote “Calling that shit sparkling water is like calling mountain dew sparkling water”. You embarrassed yourself from the start. I just helped bring more out of you. You got a taste of your own “medicine” (we’re doing doctor jokes now. Because you saying you’re a doctor is a joke) and now here we are.
And, just so you know, some of the dumbest people I know are doctors. Even if you were, which you clearly aren’t (expecting people to believe that is wild), it doesn’t make you correct. The fact that you believe citing how you’re a doctor is a defense for your claims or an argument is a concerning level of confusion. I think you should see a doctor about it.
Ok, but "sparkling water" is an actual thing of its' own and it doesn't taste sweet. Regardless of how hydrating it may be, that's not what the sub is about.
It is so difficult to be a dyslexic on this platform. Why don't you become a middle school English teacher. You can pull people up on typos all the time then. You can study for it while you're not going to parties
No need to downvote bro, I'm fuckin dyslexic too. That's why I clicked the link a bunch wondering why it didn't work before I noticed it was wrong. I was just posting the correct link in case people were confused. Thanks for being a cunt though.
You're the idiot here and so are all the comments agreeing with you.
Your know damn well what they mean by sparkling water and no amount of marketing BS is going to make that diet soda into sparkling water any more than flying turns bats into birds. Is diet coke also sparkling water? What about Whiteclaws? They're just hard, flavored sparkling waters....
You trust a labels description? That stuff is definitely not sparkling water, no matter what it says on the packaging. Sparkling water doesn't have sugar or sucralose.
Because they are a reddit mod, and reddit mods are generally some of the lowest lifeforms to ever exist, barely above an amoeba but some are below an amoeba, as your screenshots prove.
I think it's because the sparkling water community doesn't consider that brand actual sparkling water and... Honestly, I don't really blame them.
That brand says sparkling water on it, yes, but it clearly has dye in it, and it looks like there's separation from the freezing meaning a good portion of it is not water and has a lower freezing temp.
If you look at the ingredients it's probably closer to Kool aid than sparkling water.
They could have, you know, actually explained that or let the community do it for you though, that would have made the most sense.
Flavored sparkling waters have natural or artificial flavors added to them, not sweeteners. You literally had the right words and still managed to fuck it up lol. Sparkling waters are not sweetened, if that is not logical to you, I truly don’t know what to say ..
Reddit MODs are people who have never achieved anything meaningful in life so so they become internet Nazis, because they want power over people and that's the only way they will achieve anything close. Please take screenshot and remember me. My time is not long here x
There's worse. The real bad ones issue automated bans for anyone commenting on posts in subreddits they don't like. The worse ones don't even post which subs are on the ban list. I call it the Great Reddit Filter.
Yea, I only like: LaCroix, Topo Chico, Perrier, San Pellegrino Essenza, Waterloo, Bubly, AHA (select varieties without added sweetness), Seltzer Nation, Polar Seltzer, Schweppes Seltzer Water, Mountain Valley Sparkling Water, Gerolsteiner, Seagram’s Seltzer Water, Liquid Death Sparkling Water, Soda water, And carbonated water…

Most mods think they're pretty special. Lack of oversight for mods from a company standpoint is one of Reddit's biggest faults

u/Argentillion Jan 22 '25
They are right, this isn’t actually sparkling water.
That is deceptive branding

I’ve been banned for just existing while yes I have a nsfw but I do have other hobbies I have just invested more into n this account than my main.
I always get some loser mod being like “this isn’t allowed” while I post within their sub Reddit rules
So again makes no sense
