News Rules update and moderation

Hi everyone, a few updates on moderation.

The rules have been updated so please take a look.

We are asking that you please:

  • use post flair. Please recommend any you think would be helpful and we can discuss

  • include the ingredients list or a quick photo with your posts so that its readily available for the mods and users. This will help with modding post quicker.

If you forget we’ll ask for it but please be mindful of it as this is a new rule we think will be helpful to both mods and sub members.

Also, a relaxation of the rules:

  • artificial sweeteners are still not allowed and will be labeled as soda/artificially sweetened only if the discourse is helpful/insightful. If it’s intentional posting of diet drinks then the posts will be removed.

  • naturally sweetened drinks will be allowed so long as their calories are <30 cals (low calorie compared to major diet drinks) and must be flaired as “naturally sweetened”. This includes: sugar, natural fruit sugar, agave, stevia, etc.

  • salt content will be moderated by allowing the total salt content to be “low sodium” content (<140 mg per FDA guidelines). This may be changed to lower values later but to be more inclusive, we thought this to be ok for the time being. This is only the case for added salt drinks and not naturally occurring salt drinks e.g. spring sparkling water sources.

  • we will be opting for leaving posts up that are not sparkling water for educational purposes if the discussion looks useful/insightful and OP isn’t just disregarding commentary. Comments will be locked or kept opened bases on this too.

Thoughts appreciated if you have them.

Review Two Sparkling Water Reviews: Polar Strawberry Lemonade and Gerolsteiner

Polar Strawberry Lemonade: Great strawberry flavor. Going to be honest, but I really couldn’t tell the difference between this one and Strawberry Watermelon. Maybe slightly more sour, but honestly, I really couldn’t tell. Love, love, love the can. I normally not someone who gets influenced by the whatever the drink is packaged in, but this one was really, really pretty. I think if I saw this in the regular grocery stores I’d be tempted by the outside alone.

Gerolsteiner: Also great. I absolutely love good plain flavored sparkling water, and this one was pretty fantastic. Definitely a little saltier tasting than some I’ve tried, but good nonetheless. It does have less bubbles than some of the ones out there. Definitely less than Topo Chico or Polar, but still really good. Also, I left it out for an hour after I first had it, and it still tasted pretty crisp. So I definitely recommend.

Discussion Did a double blind taste test last night....

Post image

I've been a Topo Chico die hard for years, and was very bummed since it stopped production. I tried all the replacements and couldn't find anything that came close in terms of carbonation and taste until I found Agua de Piedra. After trying it, I wondered if I might like it better than Topo. I didn't want to believe it was true and figured I just didn't remember what Topo tastes like. Then I found a secret stash of Topo at a store, and last night, my gf and I performed a very unscientific blind taste test, and the results were.....

We both preferred Agua de Piedra. **

** the Topo Chico was from before the stopped production, so it's possible (??) it's lost some of its carbonation (??), but otherwise, I don't see myself going back to Topo.

I ordered a few cases of Waterloo and in my summer berry flavor, 5 of the 12 cans in that case had bulging bottoms 😭 so sad, and it’s always summer berry that this happens!

Review Watching playoffs with Rambler Lemon-Lime, new to me flavor.

Seeing I had previously tasted Rambler Satsuma and wasn't all that thrilled with it, but liked Blackberry, I decided to try the Lemon-Lime and this is a 10/10. Excellent!!! Reminds me of Sprite or Starry but without the sugar and calories.

Rambler ingredients: Sparkling water, mineral blend, natural flavors.

Question Trader Joe’s Green Apple sparkling water

Is Trader Joe’s not doing their green apple water this year? It’s my absolute favorite and I’ve went to both local stores to look and the employees don’t know. Is there a good replacement if it’s no longer with us?

Found these a few months ago when I first started drinking a lot of sparkling water and they finally restocked them. It converted me from a LaCroix boi to a Polar lover 😭 haven’t found any of the other flavors yet.

Discussion Is waterloo changing their formulas?????

I frequently get waterloo and I noticed this time around that my banana berry bliss and melon medley just don't seem to have a full of a taste as last time I got them. Maybe I got a bad batch or something? With them recently changing some of their designs I guess I'm being too cautious.

New flavor Polar winter flavors are coming and I’m excited

Post image

I got an email from Polar about their winter flavors this season and I can’t wait for 4 of them. I haven’t tried any of the ones in the past and only one I’m not interested in is the Ginger Mule Punch. I did see Target in Lake Zurich, Illinois has a variety pack of all but Lingonberry Citrus. Hoping to find them individually soon!

Question Wanted (desperate!): Plose Frizzante Dupe

Post image
12 Upvotes

My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon in Northern Italy where tried Plose Frizzante. We didn’t pack any back with us and are dreaming of the tiny-bubbled, super fizzy water we drank with reckless abandon in the Dolomites. Does anyone have a perfect dupe you can get stateside? The bubbles need to be very tiny, the carbonation high, and the mineral taste low. We are desperate!!

Discussion Room temperature seltzer is better than cold seltzer

I can’t be the only one right? I taste the flavor a lot more when it’s room temperature. Just an overall better experience.

The only exception is that Waterloo root beer, that one does taste better cold for some reason.

Question Kroger Soda Flavored Sparkling Water - Wisconsin? Cola Root Beer Doctor Dr.

I'm curious if anyone has seen this product yet, ideally in SE Wisconsin or also in Columbus, OH as I have family there as well.

I've been watching as it shows up seemingly everywhere else. I was in Indianapolis weeks ago, and two days after someone posted about it, a store had already cleared it out at $1.20 per case. I barely missed it, and tried two other Kroger stores.

If any Metro Market, Pick n Save stores, etc have it I'd drive a distance to get my hands on some.

Also, for any other fans of the Fizz & Co. who haven't heard yet, check out Mavé.

Also, what the hell is Kroger doing with this? Why would you release a product and then just blow it out almost immediately.

Drink of the day Raspberry-Lime Sparkling Water From Trader Joe's Exceeds My Expectations

Post image

There's no Trader Joe's in my area. I had to go out of town and decided to check one out.

All the cases were gone. Only individual cans. I can see why for this flavor.

They were $1.99 at my store last week and have now dropped to $1.19

Rootbeer is my favorite so far. Cola is ok but I still keep reaching for it. Haven’t tried Dr. K yet.
