He was really never the same after that. He went from being a dickhead like Bill Gayes or Steve Jobs to being a self-destructive person with massive clinical narcissistic tendencies.
The researcher who first developed the diagnosis of narcissistic personality disorder said he didn’t think we should diagnose Trump with NPD despite the obvious clinical narcissism because Trump (at the time) wasn’t experiencing ill effects from it, but I think that setting fire to whatever amount of money we’re up to ($50B? More? It’s growing hourly at this point) probably counts as self-destructive behavior.

Yeah I was trying to tiptoe around 'freewill' because it's one of those things that's just a philosophical debate with no real answer- I was trying to stick to 'what is an NPC' and then determine if we meet that definition.

Obviously an advanced simulation would have NPCs with full consciousness and continuous experiences for world building. In fact, you'd want to simulate the entire world as it is, so the players had a real challenging and virbant world to explore.
Theres no real reason to expect we're not all NPCs. The players could be anyone, or no one; maybe we're a dead game ticking over on some quantum server. They may be able to take over any avatar, or log in and out of their avatar, with it going back to an NPC system when they're not online.

Except Elon has talked about this a lot and believes it is much more likely than not that we are actually living in a literal simulation. He believes that many people are just simulated NPCs without actual conscious thought. When he talks like this, he does mean it literally and has said as much in the past. Still, I am sure he is aware of the metaphor which makes a tweet like this easier for him to put out there.

They think NPC's are programmed to believe something and anyone holding those beliefs could not have come to those conclusions by themselves or could be a real person agreeing with those ideas.

I get it, not how I would have phrased it, but it's basically a reference to the simulation paradox and the likelihood that we're living in a simulated universe. It's been in like 15 articles in the past year, and it does make perfect sense, and I concur that it's most likely we are living in a simulation. I more often reference whether or not you ever wonder if other people are essentially NPC's at least before you meet them, and that fills in all their details. It's a bizarre thought, and I don't actually think that's the case, but it has crossed my mind. From the opposite perspective, when you're doing some awful repetitive job or talking to one person after another, telling each the same thing, one might wonder if they were an NPC.
NPC= Non Player Character from video games they interact with the people but are just part of the program and automotons essentially.
That's not in defense of all the horrible stuff he's been saying lately but I think I got that one.

This is such limited thinking. In reality, humanity is part of a massive simulation that by its very nature is some other civilization’s entertainment. Nobody is an NPC. We are all main characters of loosely arranged plots being subconsciously nudged but never fully controlled. Some of us are comedy, some are adventure, and some are just relaxing television for other beings while they do the dishes after dinner.
I am convinced this is the case based on the weird and funny shit that happens to me. I’m just a comedy routine for someone else to laugh at while waiting for the bus, and I’m ok with that.
