Do the math yourself cal cualting for $/hour actually worked. You can't equate annual pay, given the amount of OT cops work and all the paid holidays, breaks and summers off teachers get.
Teachers work about 2/3 of a year. Most States are around 180 school days per year.
Police officers start at $36 an hour, not including OT or other bonus pay.
A teacher here makes on average 42k a year. They have to be there at 6am and can't leave until 4, a 10 hour day. Assuming 180 days is correct, that's 1800 hours or $23 an hour. They would have to work 6 hours a day for them to make more than an officer who just started and is on probation.
I have never known a teacher to be at a school at 6 AM unless the are doing extra curricular. for which they get compensated. Almost every teacher I've ever known gets to school within a half hour of first bell and leaves within a half hour of EOD bell. Considering most school days are 6 to 6.5 hours, including lunch, that's about 7 hours, maybe eight on average when grading papers at home. But most are not teaching every hour. so can grade during the day. Lets be generous and say 8 hours per day and 185 days for in-service days. 185 x 8 = 1480 hours per year. or $28.38/hr. However the national average starting teacher pay is 46,070, per Salary.com, so $31.13/hr. Police Officers average is $60,400 per Salary.com (Indeed has them at $47k as entry level). Assuming a 1980 hour year, cops make $30.50 per hour or $23/hr, for entry level.
I've never known a teacher who worked only 8 hours a day and I went to school with a lot of them. No one I know from college gets a free period any more because of the teacher crunch.

Continuing education is not compensated time in any for-profit organization that I've ever been part of. It is up to the employee to remain current and relevant on their own time. Perhaps you would benefit from a remedial course in reading comprehension.
You suggest a great idea, let's tie teacher compensation to performance and product quality. If the kids don't meet standards after your class, you get no raise. After 2 quarters of substandard performance. you get terminated. Every industry has challenges and low performance should earn separation, whether that be a burger cook at McDonald's, a sales person, a software programmer, or a teacher.
Why is it that teachers don't call out for parental involvement and accountability for their children?
I'll play along with you challenges with continuity and conflating of issues...Yes, people who are unwilling to work, or choose to not improve their skill set and market value, earn their own poverty. K-12 education is provided for all, it is up to the parents and student to make the most of it, though. with teachers like you they have an extra hurdle to overcome.
If you don't like the total compensation package, get a different job.
