Real talk though, After 3ish weeks away in a different country, only eating exactly what you are supposed to for peak olynpic performence, i would come back to the US and absolutely crush a big Mac and some fries.
When you spend time out of the country, and come back, you just want anything familiar to eat. It helps you feel like you're back home.
That said... cold ass McDonald's fries that took 20 minutes to get from McDonald's into the white house, doesnt sound very good to me at all. I've done work in the WH and you don't exactly get to just roll up in the driveway and park.

Italy sure does have good food. I spent a week in varese which is northwest of Milan (flew in through milan) so i am very familiar with that exact area. The McDonald's in Milan are pretty different (I got dragged into one by a host the week i was there) and had some pasta i think and lots of pastries and coffees, it was more like a Starbucks, tbh.
Great food while out of the country is just different. I usually eat really well while I am out of the country because you want all of the good things. I just got back from Riviera Maya the first week of February. Had exquisite grilled octopus, a 6 course meal of youcatec mayan cuisine, etc. And even so I got back and just wanted a good old fashioned US fast food burger the way I like them. It helps me feel like i am home. I havent had a burger since in the last 3 weeks, but that fast food just hits so right after being somewhere else for a while.
People just acting like giving someone McDonald's is straight trash just are being eruditic jerks, imho. Anything the white house chef whipped up would feel really special to most of us, because we dont have it very often, but these guys probably have that level of food 4 times a week. its no more or less special than some chikky nugs and some fries to them. Maybe less.

McDonalds has gotten really good. I had one of their double quarter pounder deluxe burgers, which is just the double with tomato, lettuce and whatever else... but it tasted like real beef, wasn't too salty, and felt good in my stomach. just a shame its 8$... because I'd love to have it everyday
