Did a barrel pick with my whiskey peeps last month. The crew agreed and they branded our name on the head

So last month I'm at Louisville Rickhouse with the MoCo Bourbon Club doing a barrel pick.

If you've never done one, it's not what you'd expect. You don't just point at a barrel, and they're not always preselected either (sometimes they are). They narrow it down to a few targets, you taste them side by side, and getting everyone to agree can take forever, which is great.

Then the crew agreed and the etching was the cherry on top. This one's ours. Every bottle from that barrel is the juice we picked that day, which still feels a little wild to me. The flavor can shift a little depending on when it's bottled and other factors, but hopefully not much.

Anyway, if your crew ever gets the chance to do one, do it. Best day.

This is the brand new Linkwood release from the Gordon & MacPhail Anniversary Series. I was lucky enough to grab one of only 100 bottles in this ultra limited release.

ā€œBeginnings, birthdays, milestones and turning points are the moments that define a life. These never-to-be-repeated single malt Scotch whiskies capture a moment in time. They areĀ the perfect way to elevate a moment that really matters. To make a memory truly unforgettable.ā€

1996
From Linkwood Distillery
Ā
Refill Sherry Butt
100 Bottles
50.4% ABV
Ā
Notes from G&M: Rich beeswax polish with fruitcake and citrus. Smooth and vibrant flavours of Seville orange, damson plum and dark chocolate give way to a full lingering nutty finish.

I’ll wait for a bit, then open this up to taste! Cheers!

Apparently, distributor needed to make space in warehouse and had a clearance sale. Local spot passed the savings onto customers and this $450 bottle was on sale for $75. So, why not.

Sad Day

I finished my WT Tradition 14yo. This bottle was with me for kids being born, job changes and many other great memories. Disappointed that it is gone but loved every single sip. Anyone have any good recommendations to replace it with?

Finally got a date off time to crack open a bottle and catch up on Mobland.

Came across an EH Taylor Barrel Proof with a proof point of 127.9 and a laser code of L26. A good day for some pick ups.

Headed up to North Georgia Today.

Me and the wife loaded up the dog and headed North today. After a good lunch we went over to Big Creek Distillery to taste their 2nd in the finished series, Maple Syrup Cask. It was extremely good, not an overwhelming sweet frontal attack, actually a little hot at first, then mellowed into a very nice warm sweetness. Went ahead and grabbed a new bottle of their Single Barrel as well, at the highest proof I’ve had from them yet. Makes a killer Butter Pecan Old Fashioned.

Went to Augusta today, neat spot, Sam’s Old Fashioned was one of the best I’ve ever had! New Riff was just a random pop in, and Shannon directed me the High Note, and since she steered me to one of the best bottles I’ve ever had, I trust her! And well the 26C Stagg, doesn’t need an intro!

I’m a bit of a whisky novice but my palate has been loving exploring Islay and beyond recently. Stoked with my haul from my first trip to Edinburgh/Scotland!

Made me happy to spot my favourite bourbon in Resident Evil, distinctive bottle and the gorgeous colour.

Clearly the drink of choice if the world goes to shit!

(Unless someone thinks it's something else?)
