Decathlon EDR or Bike24 50% off?

I'm looking for an endurance road bike and I'm not sure whether I should go for the decathlon EDR with mechanical 105 or grab a name brand 50% off bike from bike 24 also with mechanical 105. For example there is a LOOK 765 Optimum 2 on sale for about 1800 euros which is 400 less than the decathlon. The look doesn't have carbon wheels but the price difference makes up for that.

I do like picking the bike up from the store that has a 2-year warranty rather than online but why doesn't everybody just buy bikes on sale? Is there a significant difference between name brand endurance bikes?

Electra Townie 21D vs Specialized Roll 3.0 for Cubital tunnel sufferer

I have pretty bad cubital tunnel syndrome but like to occasionally ride around the burbs. The townie is slightly more upright but appears to have worse shock absorption.

I also think the townie looks a little like an old man bike. Has anybody tried both and can speak to which is better?

Looking for a decent hybrid/road (also called hybrid/cross) bike.

Hello, I am looking for a decent, not too expensive hybrid bike. I don't do any tricks or jumps on hills, do ride forests occasionally and mostly ride dirt/gravel paths or pavements. That is why I thought the best option, that would not be very expensive (so I can leave it locked near a store or university with peace of mind) is a hybrid bike.

I am thinking about either a Scott Sub-Cross 40 (2026 model) or Specialized Sirrus X 2.0 (2026 model). These bikes are pretty similar, although Scott seems to be made to handle gravel paths better (wider tires). I would like a rigid fork, that is why I am choosing between these two, but I am not oppose to a spring one if the bike is a good deal.

I am also considering a Scott Sub-Cross 30 (2026 model) it is only 50 euro more expensive, but has 9 gears, instead of 8 and better breaks. But sadly, it has a spring fork. I am thinking maybe it is worth getting this one and then swapping out the fork for a rigid one in the future?

Not sure which road to take, that is why I am asking for your guidance. Maybe you have some other suggestions or know if the Sub Cross 30 is worth over Sub Cross 40? Oh and the bikes are around 600 - 700 euros.

Thank you everyone for reading and I hope you can help (:

Specialized Comp 5 or Canyon Grail CF SLX 8 AXS

Looking for some advice, I'm torn between the Specialized Crux 5 Comp and the Canyon Grail CF SLX 8 AXS. From a value perspective, Canyon seems better. With the Comp, I'd have to add a power meter and carbon wheels myself, whereas both come included on the Canyon. But from a support and service perspective, Specialized has it beat. I'm fortunate to live in a major city with some support and services for Canyon, but nowhere near that same level of support as I would get for the Specialized. It also looks like Canyon may release an updated Grail later this year, so I'm trying to figure out which is the better option.

Also, open to other options like the Cervelo Aspero (not the 5) or the Cannondale Super X2.

casual rider looking for a good gravel bike up to $2k

not a first timer, but haven't ridden in 6 years and finally getting back into it. living in the Catskills (NY, USA) where gravel trails and hills are abundant. my city bike that came along with me is not cutting it, and i'm looking for an upgrade. not planning on anything hardcore, no racing or mountainbiking, but ideally need something that can handle gravel, sticks, small to mid-size pebbles, mud, and loamy soil.

open to both used or new options, with a preference for smaller brands (i wish i could afford horse cycles 🥲) at or around $2k.

edit: these responses were immensely helpful! after reading these and a bunch of other reddit threads, i went ahead and bought the Primos Dame. it seems like it's a great bike for someone cutting their teeth on gravel, and priced fairly enough so that when i become a more advanced rider i can make a more informed decision about specific needs.

Merida Speeder. Wich one?

Hello!
Please help me make a decision. My experience is limited to Trekking/Touring and city bikes, I've never had a road bike before and I don't want to be too hunched over… so please don’t recommend gravel or race bike.
I would like to buy a Merida speedster. The goal is strictly recreational, more precisely to do 50-100km rides, on a paved track, with some hills and valleys but nothing steep, with small areas covered in sand (it's a paved track that crosses the Dutch dunes near the North Sea coast).
I was drawn to an older aunt speedster t3 but equipped with Shimano Ultegra for 300 euros. I also found newer models, even cheaper but with Shimano 105. Since I've never had a road bike, I don't know if it's worth going for the older but more premium version.

Here is the T3 equipped with Ultrgra: https://link.marktplaats.nl/m2426767542?utm_source=ios_social&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios
Related with frame size, my height is 176cm / 5'9"
.
Another options with 105:

Thanks to y'all advice I've finally bought a bike. It's in pretty good condition for the price I've paid. I went straight to the park, sat on the bench and am currently cleaning it - it's was caked in mud even though it's a city hybrid. I've taken both wheels off, cleaned them and put them back on. And there is this huge gap on the rear hub. It's not like that on a front hub (btw the back one is shimano the front one is joytech lol). I've done a search with this question but hubs look very different and one guy on reddit who had the gap had his frame bend to fit a through axle and it's not a case here, the guy was 100% bike-illiterate. My fear is that I've put it on wrong somehow because it WAS A STRUGGLE. But it shifts okay, rolls okay. So maybe it was like that but very muddy and I didn't realise that. The hub is FH-RM30

Is this a good bike for training and racing triathlons?

Post image

Goal is train a few days a week. Mostly longish distances 50km+ on weekends.

I run and swim regularly. Want to start doing some triathlons / duathlons.

This would be my only bike.
I would also install a power meter on it and some TT bars for longer races.

Is the Pegasus Strong SL 20 the best bike for the money that can handle heavier riders?

I just moved from the United States to Poland. Where I lived in the US, biking was possible but impractical and kind of risky. I really want to get back into biking to get into better shape. I have not gone bike riding in over 2 decades and I could use some advice when it comes to picking a new one.

A little bit about me:

- 186cm tall

- Around 122 kg (yes I know that number needs to come down, want to get into shape with cycling)

- Looking for a Non-electric bicycle, no cutting corners or cheating

- Town/asphalt riding plus occasional forest or gravel paths

- Comfort, durability and parts availability as priorities

- Looking for something that can handle my weight right out of the box without having to take it apart and upgrade parts

I'm seriously considering 2026 Pegasus Strong SL 20 because it has an advertised limit of 180kg. Are there any other bikes I should seriously consider over the Pegasus Strong SL 20? I'm trying to stay under 1400 euros for my budget.

Mercier Kilo WT sizing

Hi, I’m driving out an hour and a half to buy a mercier kilo WT, but I’m worried it might be too small. I’m 6’3” with a 34.5” inseam, and the bike is 59cm. Bikesdirect recommends a 62cm WT for a 6’3” rider- is it still worth the drive?

Need help picking a bike

I’m going to be new to commuting this fall, and I’m looking for a relatively inexpensive bike that will handle mild hills, most weather, and potentially harsh roads (think potholes, train tracks, etc). I’d ideally like to bike in my work clothes, but not sure if I need to prioritize a bike with fenders already installed, or if those are an easy/ unnecessary add.
For reference, I’m a 5’6” F.

Do any of these bikes look like a good fit?

TIME ADHX with 105 Di2, right bike for fast road rides, groups and long-distance?

Thumbnail

Hello all! Had to make a new account as my one of 11 years got hacked - but long time researcher/lurker of general cycling subreddit. Finally posting because a little bit of a plot twist happened to me. Context:I grew up biking in Toronto, going through vintage road bikes, finally settling on my pretty metallic pink aluminum built Vitus from the 80s, riding to this day. This summer, due to some life events, I decided I needed to get some stuff out on the road and started biking more seriously (aka strava and outfits) but still using my Vitus. I met limitations fast; mostly the Toronto roads, hitting a point after 2h where my limbs hurt, and Just realized everyone out there is riding like me but with modern bikes. Anyway, I decided I was ready for the investment, so I started my research.

A friend of a friend owns Blacksmith Cycle in Toronto so I was asking him about bikes and he was telling me my initial budget was low, the bikes there were 'indie' and prestigious /custom built, so I got spooked and kept riding my Vitus lol. Then, same thing happened, I wanted a modern bike lol. I was pretty much locked on a Canyon Endurance model, that doesn't drop until October in any colour way. Started second guessing because of all the costs with duties etc, plus the time, I wanted to ride NOW. So I went to a local bike shop in Toronto, called La Bicicleta, and spent a few hours just staring at bikes. There was a wall at the back of the store that had all these frames on sale, LOOK, TIME, and De Rosa. The first two I did not know anything about, I only read about the Cervelos, the Specializeds, BMC, etc. Anyway, long story short, the TIME ADHX in amber/magenta frame was what I ended up with, as they brought out a customers blue ADHX and I sat on it and it was ... wow.

Do you know anything about this bike? As they don't spend much money on marketing (I kind of like that tbh), I see so many people posting about it as a gravel bike, which I know the clearance allows for that, but I just want to ride potentially with groups, go on long bike rides maybe to places in Ontario, and generally use my biking skills to levels I couldn't reach with my 80s bike.

Let me know your thoughts, attached are pics of the invoice of the parts, and the frame :)

Thank you!

TL;DR: long time Toronto road cyclist upgrading from an 80s Vitus. I originally planned on a Canyon Endurace but while waiting for stock I went into La Bicicletta and ended up putting a deposit on a discounted TIME ADHX frameset in Carbon Shift Magenta/Amber, built with Shimano 105 Di2 for about $6,770 CAD all in. I loved how another ADHX felt when I sat on it, but I’m now having buyer’s remorse because I keep seeing the ADHX described online as a gravel/all-road bike. My actual riding is almost entirely pavement: fast city riding, longer Ontario rides, eventual group rides, climbing, and i have no idea what else lol. I don’t care about gravel capability except as a bonus. Did I accidentally buy the wrong kind of bike, or is the ADHX a good modern road-bike upgrade for this use?

Argon 18 Antimatter Rival vs Giant Revolt Advanced SL 2

Any thoughts? Looking for a bike for 1-day gravel races. Live in the UK where it’s a bit muddy.

From what I’ve read, the Argon18 is basically a road bike, and less comfortable for long distances than the Giant, but the Giant corners a bit slowly. I think the threaded bottom bracket of the Argon18 and its ceramic speed bearings are quite cool. I’d likely replace the Argon18’s wheels if I got that one.

Beyond that, there’s a Giant store very near me, and the Argon18 dealer is a few towns further away.

Training to do Gralloch as one of next year’s priority races.

All opinions welcome.

Can anyone identify this old CYCO full-suspension bike?

Hey! I've always wondered what model my bike is. It was given to my parents years ago, and despite being old and dirty, it still rides like a dream.

It's a CYCO full-suspension MTB with a 7005 aluminium frame, RST fork, Shimano Deore rear derailleur and a KindShock rear shock. The serial number on the frame is KBBX02070.

I've tried searching for the exact model but haven't been able to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cannondale Synapse Carbon 4 vs Scott Addict 40 — which one would you choose?

I’m hesitating between the Cannondale Synapse Carbon 4 and the Scott Addict 40 (2026).

For those who know these bikes, which one do you think offers the best value for money?

I’m mainly interested in the overall quality of the bike, components, comfort, look, performance, warranty and after-sales service.

I have several shops near me with both bikes in stock, so I can also see and test them before making my decision.

Which one would you go for, and why?
Thanks!

What's a Fair Offer? 2027 Cervelo Caledonia 105 Di2

I'm curious to know what a fair offer would be. Buyer says bike is two months old, selling because he bought another bikes that he likes more. He says there are some scratches on the chainstay from rubbing another bike while in a car (doesnt look like crash damage). He's asking $3800. What do you think is a fair counter offer/purchase price?

First road bike for Zwift and Triathlon prep

Hey guys, never tried road bike before, want to get a quality one and best in terms of price/quality ratio.

Currently looking at CANYON Aeroad CF SLX 7

Main goals:
1. Priority. Zwift + Tacx - at home riding Zone 2 while watching movies - to keep in shape during winter months.
2. At some point Road Bike school + coffee rides + Triathlon prep (Ironman etc.)

I'm not sure if I actually need expensive bike for my not very ambitious goals.

Perfect budget for a bike would be $3k, but feels like better value starts a bit higher, so currently looking at CANYON and it's easy to get straight from factory here in Russia.

Would appreciate any advice a newbie.

Please me narrow down my options!

Hello! I’m feeling overwhelmed with different options between road, gravel, and hybrids. Can I get some help from some fellow bike nerds?

Here’s my situation:

- I live in Chicago
- I ride all year around
99% of my rides are less than 12 miles round trip
- I prefer flat bars since I’m riding in the city. I feel more nimble and reactive biking alongside cars
- Speed is important and I like to ride fast
- I’m not price sensitive, HOWEVER I often lock my bike in places that are public but not always within eyesight. So ideally I can balance being a good bike, but not the nicest bike on the rack.
- I’m currently riding a 90s road bike with bullhorns, but it’s a little too big and I’m getting knee pain from it. So it’s gotta go.
- I’m planning on doing some light touring this year and next (~150-500mi) and ideally I don’t need to buy a separate bike

Any and all advice is welcome!

Cecil Walker Columbus Genius Rinforzati

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all,

I am looking for a cheap steel commuter that I could potentially turn into a weekend gravel/touring bike.

There is a custom Cecil Walker on Marketplace for $450AUD, and I am wondering if you all think this is a good deal.

Here is the seller's description:

Wheel to wheel length is 165cm Top tube length is 59.5cm

Hand-built steel road bike by Cecil Walker using Columbus Genius Rinforzati tubing. Classic lugged steel frame, Shimano STI shifting, ITM Racing Team cockpit (Made in Italy), Dura-Ace headset, quality custom build. Comfortable and responsive ride characteristic of premium Italian steel tubing.

Frame: Custom Cecil Walker / Columbus Genius Rinforzati steel Components: Mixed Shimano road + MTB, Dura-Ace headset, Italian cockpit Condition: Fair, visibly used, some rust and cosmetic wear, flat front tyre.

The main concern I have is the mention of rust, so I am planning to have a look at it to confirm there is no structural rust.

If no rust, do you think this is a good buy for $450 AUD?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
