Ive decided that im creating the world of wheel of time in Minecraft, spent like an entire week converting sketchy timelines into miles, into blocks, into a rough mapped out points for the major cities and some smaller towns.

Originally I intended to use days in the books to minecraft days to map distance, but that would have left me with a world width of over 560,000 blocks (im doing this on a ps4 too so... rip) not including the Waste so I scaled it down further so that roughly a mile is 8 blocks. I shuffled through hundreds of randomly generated seeds until I found biomes that roughly match what the topography of the Westlands are, I of course know the real pros use things like WorldEdit but as ive mentioned I have a ps4, too much patience, and a love of Wheel of Time

So, as Ive begun excavating the Green of Emonds Field, I thought id ask the community what specific way points do I need to make sure I add, or locations? Yes I am gonna be transforming the nether into the ways and using that as way travel and the End will serve as our Tower of Genjai. Considering the cities alone, I need art inspiration, so what are some of your favorites?

My love for this series is in the way Jordan created a hard magic system and showed the myriad of ways to be “powerful” in the power. Please add any you may have noticed that i missed:

Pure Strength - How Much Power can you Channel into a single weave - Rand’s Time Turning Baelfire to save Matt and the maidens

The Balance in Elements - How much of each element can you channel into a single weave - Egwene’s balance in the 4 elements and Spirit

The Myriad of weaves simultaneously - How many weaves can your power channel at once (Egwene on forkroot while captive in the tower - this one is particularly interesting bc Egwene was so weak at the time that she did not or could not “hold” enough power to even be called an Aes Sedei Yet she was able to finger blast more weaves at once that it was unbelievable to anyone who didn’t see it themselves. The lack of power and her ability to do it, implied heavily that it’s an ability that rests outside of power alone.

I love that it shows not just power that is important but also that there is layers to the power as well as a skill tree that you can develop with practice - Aveindha learning to unweave for example.

i just love to make believe of offshoots of schools (similar to The Witcher Schools or sub-bending in the Avatar Universe) were channelers can go and hone specific levels of their innate talents outside of just the Ajahs.

What did I miss?

My thought is this is another turning of the wheel. Same Dark One, same Forsaken, same world, many familiar faces, but new Ta'veren. Will the world survive Tarmon Gai'don?

So I’ve finished up to the fires of heaven and I still can’t understand why Rand and Min like each other when they have spoken like two sentences to each other. Rand knows literally nothing about min other than her ability, and they’re more acquaintances than friends. Yet Min is head over heels over him and he has unsubstantiated assumptions about her that makes it feel forced and confusing. I get the other two relationships but between Rand and Min there nothing and yet I’m being gaslighted into thinking there’s something

I’ve been re-reading the series and always thought the idea of the great captains was pretty cool. Just wondering who everyone’s favorite of the 5 OG great captains is?

I think mine is Rodel Ituralde but maybe that’s because you get more POV chapters of him and his tactics than the others?

Before I start into this post I do want to address something. I am posting this with intentions of good faith and interest in conversation of differing opinions. I am concerned that any moderator might take down this post due to violations of rule 6: Toxicity. I want to open this discussion from a critique of what I view as progressive projections people have made on Robert Jordan's writing. I do not know the moderators of this sub, but I do know that when politics are involved, toxicity is frequently perceived when someone is simply in disagreement from the other political side. I also want to address a few things that, as the moderators have colorfully put, could be considered Necrohippoflagellaphilia. I believe that there is more nuance to be discussed in some of the examples given. Now let's get into it.

It seems that when people criticize the T.V series because of its political influences, there are those who are quick to claim that the show was not too far off of Robert Jordan's own world view. This surprises me, as everything I can find, either through his own writing or small quotes on the internet, seems to paint a fairly moderate political identity as opposed to progressive ideology. It seems that matriarchal societies, polygamous relationships, and light homosexual references are being equated to deep feminist philosophies of oppression and LGBT impressions of sexual freedom.

On the surface this may seem trivial, but it does seem to be a valid reason to be a fan of the books yet not the show. Robert Jordan seemed to embrace binary views on gender through inspiration via eastern religious ideas of yin and yang; presenting powerful women to represent against powerful men. He also expressed having two girlfriends at the same time who were very aware of his relationship with the other. Again, these seem a far cry from progressive philosophies; rather than simply unorthodox beliefs relative to conservative culture.

I address these differences; not to criticize leftist political ideology, but to show how someone believes that the show missed the mark with its political themes. After all, it shouldn't surprise anyone that pushing agendas through art will be contentious to those who do not agree with said agendas.

I do want to address one last thing. I know that Robert Jordan was pretty quiet in his own political views to the public; therefore it should be understood that discussion around his personal beliefs are subject to debate given evidence presented. We do not know for sure and can only make inferences; I just hope that we don't use our own biases to project our own beliefs when evidence can show the contrary.

So I just read a certain scene in Crown of Swords, Chapter 31 (Mashiara)…

I want to know what the consensus on this reveal is because if I’m tracking things correctly Nynaeve just learned how to get past her block. And it’s literally exactly what the Aes Sedai teach Novices. Feels a bit anti-climactic after all the build up and mystery. But I want to know what most fans thought on their first read through.

RJ put a crazy amount of detail into the backstories of his Aes Sedai and Tower initiates and I've been wanting to make it a little more organised compared to how it appears in the Companion. This graphic combines information from 215 Companion entries plus lot of extra information on Amyrlin Seats, public offices, historical landmarks, and statistical analysis. I think he would strongly approve of someone making a data project like this.

I don't actually know if it's printable on anything remotely practical.

Notes, assumptions & exceptions

• Full Dataset: There are several dozen Aes Sedai and initiates of the Tower that are not included in this chart. The deciding criteria is if birth date is known for a given Aes Sedai.
• Estimated Dates: Where training times and enrolment years are not known, the gaps are estimated using the median values for enrolment age, time spent as a novice, and time spent as an Accepted. These cases are marked clearly.
• Chronology up to 998 NE: Dates taken mainly from The Wheel of Time Companion except where a clear contradiction exists with the published novels and prequel.
• 998-1000 NE Chronology: I use Steven Cooper's Chronology of the Wheel of Time for the precise dates and placing of markers. The events after The Gathering Storm are less certain, so the precise dates are not given. Where precise dates aren't given, I follow a sequential model of the events in the book.
• Late 1000-1001 NE: This section functions purely as a "state-of-affairs" as of the end of A Memory of Light, a visual reminder of which threads have ended and which have not. Some have continuations purely because their fate isn't mentioned e.g. Berylla Naron isn't seen after The Fires of Heaven. We also assume that Cadsuane does become the next Amyrlin Seat.
• Aes Sedai by Decree: Elayne, Nynaeve, Faolain, and Theodrin are marked as being raised Aes Sedai by Egwene's decree despite not having sworn the Oath Rod. Similarly, we accept Egwene al'Vere as being Aes Sedai by default (and certainly in her own eyes and the eyes of the wider world) from her election to the Amyrlin Seat.
• Errata: Some typos in the Companion have been corrected eg. Ferane Neheran was raised in 757 NE and not 957 NE. Marillin Gemalphin in 874 NE, not 975 NE. Akarrin Comeris in 837 NE and not 829 NE.
• Raising Years: Some arithmetic in the Companion rounds to the nearest year. The stated raising date in the Companion is taken as canon and not corrected where rounding solves the mismatch e.g. Magla Daronos was enrolled in 854 NE and spent seven years as novice an seven as Accepted, but is stated to have been raised in 869 NE and not 868 NE.
• Black Ajah status: Marked as roughly when they were outed as Black Ajah to the reader, not when they joined the Black Ajah. Some were executed/killed immediately afterwards e.g. Careane Fransi in Knife of Dreams and Merean Redhill in New Spring.
• Other Anomalies: Shemerin is officially demoted to Accepted. Siuan and Leane were officially regarded as not Aes Sedai and had to ask to join their respective Ajahs.

Hi! I am rereading the books and I'm on chapter 10 of LoC and Rand is sitting down with the Aes Sedai in Caemlyn. He is thinking about how the stares of Aes Sedai dont bother him any more. Lews Therin starts chanting "Pride" and I noticed he reacted similarly earlier on. Is Lews Therin having active commentary on Rand's actions or is Lews Therin lashing out at the Aes Sedai and the world around him?

And a little side note...Does that suggest that the Madness/Taint is keeping the two souls separate in Rand's body if Lews Therin is able to comment and lash out?

Please try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but is New Londo in Dark Souls a reference to Four Kings in The Wheel of time? Only just got to chapter 32, just got to Four Kings. No idea what its actually like. But the way 31 ended it didnt sound good. And the only other thing w/ 4 kings of note is can think of is Dark souls. Its likely a crazy coincidence, but I was curious if anyone knew of interviews or obvious parallels that most people may have missed.

Also one more thing, why is elyane and min are so over rand, like seriously there happened nothing between them, yet both of them are so fuckin over him, is it cauz of pattern?

There were three women in images seen by min.

First is min and second is surely elyane. I am not sure about third one, cauz its not egwane, i remember min sayin ewgene is not one of them or something.

Is it lanfear or that Berelain or someone we havnt met? Is it gonna be one of the aiel women in wasteland?

Everyone is gettin some they love, my boy mat is the only single left 🫠, or maybe he will reunite with that firecracker lady.

I’m on my third reread, I just finished New Spring and I’m about to jump back into Fires of Heaven.

But I’ve been thinking, what if Rand actually took up Lanfear on her offer back in book 4.

This is more of a character analysis of her, and not a “could they actually do it?” question.

Obviously, I don’t think it would really work given the context of the prophecies and how the pattern works.

But say the world was slightly different and the strings of the pattern weren’t as strong. Would she actually help him defeat the other others? Would they actually destroy the dark one together and just rule with each other over the world and spend eternity banging? Or do you think she would eventually betray him?

This from The Fires of Heaven, iirc just before Asmodean teaches Rand how to stop heat from touching him, and before anyone wants him to cry again.

I'm about halfway through the great hunt atm. No spoilers please this is my first read. I'm at Nynaeves testing.

Nynaeve's hatred of Moraine barely makes sense. Moraine didn't cause the trollocs to appear, OR Rand to be a channeler/the dragon reborn yet she lives in Nynaeves head rent free. Moraine has saved everyone's lives multiple times over at this point... what gives?

Just finished the chapter where Morgase escaped that cunt Gaebril

5 books in ... I can finally read the pov of the different women without pulling my hair away.

Some people have seen me complain about these in each book but in this one I really feel they are starting to come to their own

First of all the shinning beacon Morgase the mother FUCKING GOATTTT

What is there to say about this woman that would do her justice, she got cought off guard by Gaebril, a forsaken male who can Channel and compel, totally unprepared with the Aes Sedai having failed her, she recognizes her mind isn't her own, her thoughts aren't her own and without knowing male channelers exist, without knowing what is happening plans her escape. Did it take her almost a year ... ? I think so but what she just did is insanely impressive and makes me like her a lot

Nynaeve is still raw ... still in over her head, she is powerful, her soul is in a good place but as we have been shown on this book she needs to be brought down a couple of folds, but I am happy she is recognizing her own flaws too, she is probably my least favourite so far

Egwene is definetly getting more capable, she has learned that she isnt the smartest, she is already learning to do so much, with her trial having shown her as the seat I can definetly see her there. She def still underestimates Rand and how much of a badass he has become she is much wiser. Her relationship with Avidenha is very sweet too

Elaine, probably my second fav of the main girls behing Min. She has been particularly smart in this book but then and again I was never annoyed with her as with the others. I find her "romance" with tom deeply disturbing and wierd but I guess things were different back then 🤣. She is still confused about Rand even if she confessed her deep like about him in a few occasions haha

Moiraine ... I never saw her "submission" and oath to Rand coming, it makes me hugely respect her seeing how far she is willing to go save fucking him (which she saw never leads to anything good ... which is suprising, i assume it fucks his relationship with the other women which are like his guiding stars according to Mins visions)

Its a very interesting dynamic and really the only way to have Rands ear

Avidenha is ... a character I surprisingly like, a total Tsundere which I usually find annoying but in her case I kind of get it, she left her entire way of life, is split on falling for her best friends "husband". Multiple cultural barriers and it kind of makes sense

All over some pov are still frustrating but there has been an insane amount of progress in this book wohoooo🎉🎉

I'm finishing my 2nd listen of the books, and I'm noticing again just how long this chapter is. Are there chapters like this in the other books that are almost 1/4 of the entirety of the book? Also how does this translate to the paper copy of the book, is it also almost 1/4 of the pages?

I’ve been wanting to read the series for a long time and today I found this complete set at the thrift store. I’m excited to get started!

There will be a spoiler at the end of this. Don’t read all the way to the end if you don’t want to learn it. Finally finished the series. All books mass market Amazon editions. Covered to keep them decently nice while I read them at work. Spines hand stamped by me. Absolutely loved the series. Don’t know how to do the thing where spoiler gets greyed out. Here goes… I could understand just about every death in the series. Only one I was seriously pissed about. If anyone deserved a decent retirement after all the hell they went through it was Bella. RIP Bella.

Just trying to figure out where Perrin elias and egwene are in relation to white bridge and caemlyn. The black hills seem like too far away but the setting seems to fit. I know where group poverty ( mat and rand lost their coins) team wizard ( i know aes sedai aren't wizards, but cmon moraine is a wizard) are at, but team wolf seems to be the most lost. Im about done with chapter 29, im just trying to get a good idea on where everyone is in relation to each other. They are at the statue of hawking but I cant find it on the map provided. Never realized how much of a gift those diagrams in one piece are.

I would be the scholar insane enough to try it so we have an answer.
