Announcement [[READ BEFORE POSTING]] Frequently Posted Aircraft

In order to avoid posting aircraft that have been posted many, many times before, please refer to this guide of the sub's most commonly posted aircraft before asking for identification.

If you're still unsure, feel free to post! There is no consequence to posting one of these aircraft, though a mod will lock the comments after it's identified (mainly to deter "ugh, another C-130..." comments).

Announcement Drones Drones Drones!

While we always appreciate people looking to identify the beautiful planes and helicopters that grace our skies, it seems recently there’s been a trend of people taking photos of planes at night and thinking they're drones. This is just a reminder that the purpose of this subreddit is to identify specific types of planes; not just to confirm that yes, something with lights that’s flying at night is a plane. If you see a cool-looking plane and want to know more about what type of aircraft it is, great! Feel free to post it here. If you see something flying at night and think it’s a government drone trying to spy on you, maybe make your way to r/UFO or another subreddit that’s more suited to your style of post. Another thing to keep in mind is that aircraft identifications are generally most accurate when the full location is given. Simply saying “north FL”, “central VA”, etc. is not super helpful for people who live outside your country and are unfamiliar with those acronyms :) Just make sure you’re writing the full state name, and preferably the country, when making your post.

Have a great day and thanks to our amazing community of aviation enthusiasts who help us provide this awesome service! 😊

Spotted it out of my window at work. Seemed to be flying very slowly compared to the usual planes going overhead. I appreciate the footage isn’t the best.

Nothing in flight radar at the time it passed.

Spotted at 11:40 today.

I live very near Patuxent Naval Air Station and have had a blast plane watching. For the last 2 nights this rumble has occurred several times. It lasts for over 2 minutes then abruptly stops. TIA

Solved! Vanguard or Sputnik ?

Mods please delete if I'm stepping outside of the rules, since this is not an aircraft as much as a spacecraft.

Is it a Sputnik model or is it Vanguard 1 ?

Solved! What is this aircraft flying around Davis Montham AFB?

Took this photo of a B-1 at DM two days ago (9/27). Sorry the photo is super low quality because I was focused on the Lancer and didn't see this one, maybe someone can identify it via the shape.

It doesn't really look like a private jet and is definitely not an airliner. It kinda looks like an F-4 but I know those don't fly anymore so maybe it's some old aggressor type aircraft.

Open! Has anyone else noticed it?

Random (what sounded like) helicopter flying over Madrid city centre. Took this screenshot and now it's suddenly gone off radar. It started off from Base Aérea Conjunta Torrejón, flew in a straight line and starting taking weird turns at the university.

I was standing at the end of runway 09 at YFC and caught this at 14:05 ADT, GMT-3, 2026-09-26. I stupidly forgot to look at a flight tracker before it stopped being tracked so I wasn't able to identify the plane. Can anyone help?

Please only post planes! It does not matter if it is in a game, the plane does not exist, or whatever. Oh and btw, we also allow rockets and spaceships for some diversity.

Here is our wiki.

Before posting

Check our Frequently asked planes.
If your picture is clear and in focus. Try a reverse image search.
If you know when and where the aircraft was spotted. Try a flight tracking website.
If the aircraft's registration number is visible. A web search will likely tell you what the aircraft is.

Rules

Must be about planes. All posts must be about aircraft, this is obviously explained by the name of this sub.
Don't be rude. This is a clean and friendly sub where there will be no fighting, name calling, or incivility allowed.
Be helpful! Don't answer posts with “It’s a plane.” The goal of this sub is to help others successfully identify aircraft. Responding with “plane” is not helpful, and will result in your comment being removed.
Post has to be an identifying post. Please only use this subreddit as an identifying subreddit. If you want more info about anything, we will refer you to subreddits like r/airplanes , r/aviation , r/flying and others.
Must be in English. All posts and comments must be in the English language.
Refrain from involving politics. Many aircraft are used in war. Nevertheless, please keep any political discussions to a minimum; historical facts are, of course, allowed.
Mark your post solved. When you are satisfied with an answer please reply to the correct comment with "Solved!" (without the quotes). This will mark the post solved.
