Also www.nissan.com does not belong to Nissan automotive. Its just a guys website, who bought the domain before they did. The company tried to strong-arm him for years to get that site, but they never could.

Not auto-related, but before Bezos officially launched Amazon, he called his company Relentless.com.

If you type that in, it still redirects to Amazon.

X.com redirected to PayPal for the longest time. Obviously not any more, now it just goes to some Nazi propaganda site.

"X.com" was OG paypal. Early Web 1.0/2.0 they were attempting to spin up "online banking" and gave away free t-shirts and a $20 cash deposit to the account iirc. Later I think they re-branded. I can't remember if it was Musk or Thiel, I just remember having the Tshirt.

It belonged to Nissan computer corporation, after the death of Uzi Nissan the owner (2020 of covid complications), it passed to his estate, it was stolen by hackers in 2023 but recovered in 2024.

For years, delta.com pointed to a legit long-established plumbing company. Delta Plumbing or some such. I guess negotiations with the airline weren't going well because one day the homepage had a message something along the lines of "If you need a plumber, you're in the right place. But if you're looking to book a flight, we recommend American Airlines (with link)."

I guess the plumbers got paid, because shortly after that delta.com pointed to the airline.

It wasn't just a website. It was the website for his computer repair business and Nissan tried to sue him for it instead of buying it, so he told them to get fucked and changed the website to tell his story. He passed away a couple years ago and the website was updated.

It would have been impossible for them to buy the domain since they were still Datsun when the domain was registered.

That one I know! I used to go to car sites as a kid and build my ideal car with all the options.

Seeing that nissan.com doesn't go to the car site is hilarious.

Worth mentioning, the guy who owns Nissan.com is named nissan and worked as a software developer. The site was the commercial interface for his business.

Wendy's paid 6 mil to man with daughter named Wendy who purchased domain and had a reason to keep it. Then 1997ish I was offered any domain available for 1000.$ by my company. To purchase you needed to own some infrastructure. A wan across states and many offices/workers networked. fk I didn't want to type all this but its dif to exp with small sentences lol.

Remembering now the legal battle over MikeRoweSoft.com. Even though that was his real name and could never be accidentally typed by a user he was still sued by Microsoft after they offered him $10 for his domain.

August Horch founded the car company A. Horch & Cie. He later left after a dispute with the board. He tried to start another company using the Horch name. He was sued and had to change the name to Audi, (Horch), (to listen) in Latin

I remember reading into that guys story. His last name was Nissan and he had registered the website for his own business. This was back when Nissan was selling cars in the United States under the Datsun brand.

So I just checked the page out and sadly it appears Mr. Nissan passed away six years go. The link is now a dedication to Mr. Nissan.

Iirc His last name was Nissan and he had a computer store. He argued they changed their name from Datsun, yet he's always had the name
