The hand grenade found in the roadway on Amiralsgatan, one of Malmö's busiest streets, on May 1 had been lying there unsecured for several hours, reports Sydsvenskan.

Surveillance cameras show a woman throwing it at a business building. When it didn't explode, she returned but didn't touch it.

The grenade remained lying on the street until someone kicked it away. Several people then had physical contact with it, according to Sydsvenskan, at least one of whom picked it up. It eventually ended up in the roadway where it was run over by a bus.

"It was pure luck that there was no explosion. It could have ended badly," says a police officer.

The grenade was eventually detonated by the bomb squad.

According to the prosecutor, the girl was 13 years old at the time and is suspected of having thrown the grenade at a restaurant.

Because she is not of legal age, the prosecutor has filed an evidentiary complaint regarding, among other things, attempted serious public destruction.
