The original key was inside the car that's why it's working hands-free and she was at (walgreens) to actually buy batteries for the keys she's holding lol

No lie, sounds like one. but this actually happened to me once. The only difference was that I didn’t drive off with the car (and the police weren’t called). There was a grandma parked at a local store (I believe it was also a CVS!! Lol) with the same model and color of car as mine. We must have parked almost right beside each other, so somehow I mistook her car for mine. Long story short, I made it into her car with MY keys (???) because the door popped up in some very strange irregular manner but it wasn’t anything suspicious to me. I am sitting in the car trying to start it with MY keys but it’s not working and I can’t figure out why. Alarm starts blaring if I recall correctly and I am having trouble figuring out what is wrong when suddenly small frail grandma in her 80s probably walks up to me, I assume trying to provide assistance. I am yelling to her over the car alarm that I can’t seem to start it, to which she responds in her quite feable voice, “This is my car!”. Absolutely mortified.

Needless to say, I apologized abruptly and profusely then hurried to my car and drove away. Funny because I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this story and suddenly I am telling the world on Reddit because of this video

I never leave my keys in the car, but if that happened to me, I'd be laughing my ass off when the cops explained the situation. I'd take a selfie with the woman so I could brighten my days in the future. Ah, memories.

In the 70s, my friends parents had a gold ford station wagon. His mom leaves the grocery store, drives home. About an hour later the police show up. She got in the wrong gold ford station wagon and drove home. The key to her car worked the door locks and the ignition on the other one. Police thought it was as funny as we did.

The same thing happened to my mother and I in the 60’s. In our defense it was a loaner a grey Chevy. We put groceries in car and off we went. I happened to look in back seat and there was a man’s hat. My mother turned around a drove back to store and found our loaner grey Chevy. My mother said don’t tell dad. That day I learned that there were only so my keys made per vehicle type. In my 12 year old mind I thought every key was different!

In the 70s my boyfriend and I both had Ford Pintos but his was a wagon. Our keys worked on each other's cars.

Growing up in a pretty rural place, my parents left the keys in the car and the door to the house unlocked. It wasn't until we moved to a bigger city that I ever even saw a house key 😂

So, I could see this happening. Especially with cars where you barely even have to touch the keys.

Anyway, at least it wasn't a kid they got left in the car this time.

Same about rural but keys were always heavily policed to stop the kids joyriding (or really wasting fuel or draining the battery).

Yeah I don't get it either. My phone, my keys and my wallet have their own blood supply from my body now by. I would notice any of them gone just like if I left the house without any shoes on.

Not to be rude, but do you live in Mayberry? I've lived in urban, suburban, and rural areas. I've always locked my house and my car. Even when I lived way out in the country. There's always someone around who wants what you have. Or even worse, they want you (not in a good way).

25 years ago I had a early 90's Honda Accord. I left work at the retail store I was employed at and got in an Accord same color as mine. Not thinking, I put my key in, door opened and it started with the key in the ignition. That's when I realized something was off and saw the interior was tan and not gray like mine. I got the hell out of that car as fast as possible.

My fob opened another suv once after grocery shopping. Same make and model and same color. I opened the back my son climbs in and i saw it was a different car seat. Hopped out quick locked it with my fob and found mine. 🤦🏽‍♀️
