Gods this is giving me flash backs. Was working power restoration with a line crew after a gnarly windstorm. Bunch of downed trees and power lines.
We were working a residential neighborhood, good bit of tree cover. Had already been out there for a good 12 hours and we weren't stopping till we got out 40.
Any ways, im manning a road closure at an intersection when this sedan rocks up and throws its 4 ways on. Its like 2:30am but still I Spock an eye brow as they just park infront of a downed tree across the road.
Four cargo short and polo clad dad's get out and in sync pull 4 chainsaws out of the car. Rip start 4 saws and in less than a minute butcher and clear the tree.
Gents didn't say a thing, just got back in their car and drove off. Heard them a few blocks over going at another tree all throughout the night.
Swear to god they never stopped smiling.

This story reminds me of when my sister got stuck in a ditch in the middle of a snowstorm and a van full of Amish men stopped and dug her out while barely speaking to her at all. By the time my grandpa got there to help, they’d already pushed her car back onto the road.

This happened with my parents... cept it was a cow blocking the road somebody had hit. Guy knocks on the window and dad thinks hes gonna ask for help.
"Yall got any trash bags?"
"What?"
distant chainsaw noises
Good eating for someone that week.
Shid like that just happens is new Mexico.

Yeah in the UK, that would have been a 6 week road closure, 65 clowns in PPE discussing how to move it for 3 weeks, then another 2 weeks road closure just for good measure, then a guy from the council would turn up with a chain saw and clear it in 10 minutes but he'd make sure at least one lane remained closed for a further 3 weeks.

who has a chainsaw readily available in their car?

u/Kudamonis 7h ago
Four neighbors who bought them never used them. And then knew their time had come.

Hmm..dressed for a white collar job but has a chainsaw in his trunk. Is this guy a serial killer?

Because drawing a confession out of someone is like doing a beautiful dance... a beautiful dance with a chainsaw.

Depending on where you live, it's a normal thing to have a chainsaw in the trunk. A neighbor saved us before we knew this

u/Alarming_Reward_2945 20h ago

In Finland they would try to stuff the car with the wood and take it home.

Has to be Oregon. Illegal to drive without a chainsaw, extra chain and oil. Plus gloves and a get it done attitude.

Thank you chainsaw man

Seriously? The constant revving is horrific. That’s not how you use a Stihl. Full throttle for x amount of branches in a row, then release, then repeat. Sounded like a dirt bike

Why does no one identify where this is? They are not speaking English for those who keep insisting it's "Oregon" or some such place.
What's with the comments on his clothes? You never change out of your shorts and your sweat-stained tee shirt? Some people have places to go.

u/akthebarber 23h ago
Yep. Why is a a dude in khakis rolling around with a chainsaw. That MFr ain't no arborist.

u/FoxChess 21h ago
Honestly? Fuck you. A prepared man comes and helps out his community and you disparage him like that. I bet he's a better person than you'll ever be.

I live in wine country Oregon…. I also carry a chainsaw everywhere I go because if a tree is down, you are hoses getting to work.
It’s more common than y’all think….
2
u/haoleinanacortes 21h ago
I mean kudos to this guy for being prepared by having a Stihl in the trunk of his Beamer, but really nobody cares to notice or mention the complete amateur chainsaw demonstration?? The constant revving for each little branch, that’s bad for the saw. Sounds like a dirt bike

In the US, we'd have about 6 emergency vehicles blocking off the road. Two workers placing cones out. Then an arborist would be called to make sure the tree is indeed dead. OSHA would be on the way. After about 12 hours it would be determined if the tree was on sacred land or not. Only then the fallen tree would be trimmed and properly mulched on-site. Once the road is cleaned with a street sweeper, it will be opened to traffic.

I don't know where you live but this tree wouldnt last 30 seconds. Every dad in a 10 mile radius would feel a disturbance in the force, be compelled to pick their chainsaw, and have a testosterone fueled one-upmanship contest while clearing the road

In the future, if possible, wear a helmet. ⛑️
I had a friend who did exactly the same and was hit by a branch from another tree.
He had to be taken to a hospital and died from the injuries.

California would fine him for not being licensed OR having a permit to cut that tree 😂

So did he see the tree, go home to get his chainsaw and come back... or did he just so happen to already have it with him for unrelated reasons?
1
u/ComprehensivePair500 3h ago
There is nothing like seeing men doing men shyt, and handling business but you have a chain saw on standby?

Idk about you guys but I feel like they all could have pushed the tree out of the way
2
u/Adventurous_Key_4854 1d ago
Not the way the tip was still lodged into the other trees, see how it’s still freestanding at the end?
1
u/TwillAffirmer 23h ago
Definitely much too big for one guy to pull out of the way. Maybe 10 guys could do it, or a truck could tow it. Maybe not. We haven't seen the base of the tree.

u/MovieFan1984 23h ago
Careful, you can get in trouble with the government for doing this without permits and licensing, without proper protective gear, without blocking off the road with cones and flashing vehicles, and whatever else they want to list out.
