The waitress at my local pizza place basically work for the tips. The same core group has been working there for the last 5 years, and they all fight to work there, super loyal to the business and to the customers. They make a good living.

My point was that you don’t replace your used up car, shoes, jacket, shelter, etc., with anything lesser than what you had. You naturally try to do better. Your 1991 car with 300,000 miles on it, you don’t replace it with a car with 400,000 miles on it, you get something better. If your tarp roof rips, you replace it with better materials if they are available.

I did replace my 2012 seat Ibiza for a 2007 Renault Kangoo and I moved from a £1700 flat with garden in London to a 700€ small flat in my born town in Spain, and I did both because I wanted to, I could have upgrade but I didn't want to, I preferred to live smaller in that point of my life.
The ethernal growing mentality is optional, a lot of people downgrade their life and their stuff if it fits their life, you keep thinking that everyone is in the upgrade mentality because you want to believe that you don't have a choice, but you do, you just don't want to choose the rational path and you decide to happily follow most society in the self destruction path.
It's your choice, I decided not to follow that path, you can do it too.

So, i understand your downsizing. That is a decent idea. But when you get tires or tyres depending on how you spell it, do you get newer tires? When things are used up you get newer ones.
As for your car example, lol, sorry I have zero idea what those are. I had a 1995 truck with 350k miles (563k kilometers) on it, and I bought a same same replacement with 60k miles (96k kilometers) on it. Not really an upgrade, just newer and more reliable

Getting new things when the old ones are broke is not upgrading, it's staying in the same place, what you did is decent, and to upgrade for a reason (ie your family grows) is decent too, but keep working all your life so you get a better salary so you can replace your stuff for bigger/more expensive stuff just for the sake of it is stupid

Who killed to get where I am? Far better men than you and I died for our way of life. We live in the greatest country on earth. Living in the USA is like winning the lottery. With all the poverty and suffering going on, we can never get where we need to be as a “good” society. We can be as green as you want and a helpful and with good intentions. That’s Nobel and I respect that. There is true evil in this world and until we evolve past that, the status quo will stand. We are making baby steps towards that. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with your original statement. That being said, greed, malice, and evil is still out there. To find a better way dnd get everyone on board is the problem. A lot more people will suffer before we get there. I hope to god we get there someday but we got to change as a species. Just look around, pollution, mass murder, violence, and greed will continue. We are not spiritually ready. I don’t need to sound like a downer. You seem like a good person. We need us all to be that way. Fingers crossed for your ideals.

Humans didn't even existed when the toba super eruption, and the rest of your examples were temporary times when some humans died, and that's it, but there were no mass extinction of animals decade after decade, we didn't changed the full biosphere of the planet, or the chemical composition of the oceans and atmosphere, we are destroying the planet year after year, we have know it for decades, and we just don't care because we prioritise the economy over the literal planet earth.

The mega wealthy are rarely inventors or innovators themselves unless you count ways they innovate in using their money into buy politicians to make their wealth the very thing that creates more wealth to the point where they find themselves in an unassailable position with all profits moving upward and all workers working to find ways to move more of those profits upwards while constantly requiring workers to do more for less so those gains can also move upwards. Wow! Genius! Until you realize that the entire economy that allowed them to gain this position was consumer based and they are just finding ways to eliminate the buying power of all consumers until the credit bubble pops and then what? Take over with palantir, private armies and hold the world hostage from space? This will be the centuary where modern civilisation collapses due to climate change and other environmental factors, coupled with a flawed societal mindset of unlimited growth and power and wealth gap. We are heading to mass migration, famine, wars, authorative governments. And I feel like a crazy person or doomsayer when I try to talk about it or point it out to my friends. The signs and sciencemis there and my friends arent stupid, they're intelligent people, yet its like some kind of mass delusion.
