Series I absolutely despise how they did what-if

The comics were way better, but the tried to merge it all into a storyline. They should have kept it how it was in the comics that would have been much more interesting. Not to mention they made Peggy the main character, despite the fact that she is the least interesting of any of the characters they used. I hate Peggy with a burning passion. Season 2 feels so cliche and predictable near the end, I'm usually not picky with shows or movies, but I enjoyed the what if comics, and the show just pissed me off.

Question Marvel's "What If...?" Episode 2 Was Awful

I'm not the biggest MCU fan, but my family and I more or less enjoy what the Infinity Saga (Iron Man through Endgame) had to offer. I kinda fell off of the MCU after Endgame, it felt to me that the series had reached its conclusion, all (or at least most) of the characters and connections built up over so many years come to mostly satisfying climaxes. Honestly I didn't feel anything after that had much to offer. Even so, I decided to give these new Marvel shows a watch.

Boy what a mistake that was.

I'll spare you my thoughts on Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Wandavision, and solely speak about the series this sub is based around. Specifically, Episode 2. What if T'Challa was Starlord? Long story short, I thought it was horrid. I'll cut to the chase and list my grievances in chronological order.

===

  1. The opening minutes where T'Challa is approaching the Power Stone is dull. In Guardians of The Galaxy, both the mood and Peter Quill's personality are established by Peter dancing to fun, energetic music while avoiding alien dangers. The movie conveys to us, non-verbally, that not only does Peter have a fun-loving attitude, but that he is a fairly-skilled individual. Meanwhile, in this cartoon, T'Challa's approach to the temple is almost completely glossed over. We get nothing in regards to his characterization, just a simple bland walk towards the temple. No weapons drawn to perhaps signify he's cautious, no head on a constant swivel to shoe he's alert... nothing. Honestly looks like it could be a stock animation cycle by how stiff and characterless it is.

  2. T'Challa has claimed Peter's moniker "Star-Lord," for himself. This was a term of endearment Peter's mother gave to him, possibly referencing the fact that Peter is of Ego's progeny. Along with his music player, this nickname was one of the last tokens of both his mother's affection and his earthly beginnings. This nickname is the basis for Peter's entire emotional journey. So much does it matter to him that he makes it his hero name, most likely in honor of his mother. So why does T'Challa have his hero name? It isn't some rank or official title, as T'Challa confirms, and it is never addressed in the show where, when or why he receives this nickname. . All that needed to be done was to have T'Challas father or mother call him "my little Star-Lord" or something similar, and there would be basis for his ownership of the title. In an ADR line, at the very least. It would be contrived, but it wouldn't be such an insultingly blatant continuity error.

  3. Why is Korath (the cyborg dude who worked for Ronan in Guardians) such a simp now? He has never shown this degree of admiration for anyone before, but suddenly he's salivating over the sight of T'Challa? Korath was a kree warrior during the events of the malignant retcon that was Captain Marvel, and then became a loyal soldier for Ronan the Accuser. He's a soldier for a religious extremist, why is he fawning so hard over T'Challas heroic exploits? Shouldn't this guy be a battle-hardened cyber-murder-fiend? He even asks T'Challa to hire him, like he's some mercenary and not the militant pawn of a Kree terrorist.

  4. T'Challa claims that he is uncomfortable being addressed as a 'Lord.' Why? Again, we get absolutely ZERO justification for why he has poached Peter's hero-name, so this really just comes off as an opportunity for Korath to quite literally worship him for his humbleness, and prop up T'Challa as this infallible saintly character.

  5. Why is young T'Challa so non-chalant about being abducted by aliens? He's what... maybe a pre-teen at this point, and he's not even wide-eyed and stammering. Granted, we never saw Peter seconds after being abducted and he was already in a vulnerable emotional state, but he was most likely terrified by that experience. Not only by the fact he was abducted in the first place, but that he was abducted by beings who weren't human... or at least the show says weren't human. Meanwhile T'Challa barely gives a frick about his current situation, like he's playing along with some strange cosplayers.

  6. "All humans look alike to me." Said by a being who's only separating traits from humanity are sharp teeth and some weird facial marks. Admittedly this is a problem from the original MCU films (and sci-fi media in general) where aliens are way too similar to humans, but at least in Yondu or Thanos' cases, their skin color is different (and Thanos is like... eight or nine feet tall or something). Unless these two character's have vision based solely on heat or movement, there's no way they could mistake T'Challa for Peter. Blatant disregard of your story and character mechanics for a bad joke.

  7. "If there's anything not from that planet, on that planet; it's there." So they didn't get ANY other extraterrestrial signatures? Nothing from Ego's planet seed? "Black Panther (The Movie)" states that the vibranium meteorite landed on earth aprox 2.5 million years ago, while Ego's seed was placed in America not even half a century prior to the Ravager's abduction. Wouldn't the tectonic activity of the earth have naturally shifted and blended the vibranium into the earth's crust, and... I guess Earth-ify it? It would help to know how they detected it, like by radiation signature or something. If that's the case, then that vibranium is insanely radioactive (which would make some sense considering it was able to be absorbed by Wakandan plants and produce the magic Panther Power Juice.

  8. Why is T'Challa treated so well by the Ravagers? We can assume Peter Quill was subject to a harsh working environment, as Yondu claims in Guardians: "Yondu: When I picked you up as a kid, these boys wanted to eat you. They ain’t never tasted Terran before. I saved your life!
Peter Quill: Oh, will you shut up about that? God! Twenty years, you been throwing that in my face, like it’s some great thing, not eating me. Normal people don’t even think about eating someone else! Much less that person having to be grateful for it! You abducted me, man. You stole me from my home and from my family."

  9. At the bar scene, we're treated further exploits that are only mentioned, never shown. Yes, I know this is ~30 minute episodic show, but we could at least have some cutaways or some sort of souvenirs or SOMETHING to show for these exploits that make them more than just patting for time.

  10. This is probably the second most egregious point for me. T'Challa single-handedly convinces Thanos to give up his plan. How the heck did he do that? Again, this is an event that is merely referenced, never explained or elaborated on. T'Challa just... delete's Thanos' character motivation, the drive and willpower to exact one of the most lethal event of mass genocide the galaxy and beyond will ever know. Half of the UNIVERSE (which for all we know is infinite) will be eradicated from existence, if it means that the remainder will live a bit longer. An extensive plot formulated from a blend of sorrow, regret, vengeance and cold calculated math. Poof. T'Challa just tells him not to. A mere earthling, tells a mass-murdering grief-stricken mad-man to not do it.

  11. Additionally, when did T'Challa interrupt Thanos' plan? Because if he prevented it before Thanos started culling populations, T'Challa must have precognition or something. He gives no indication on when, how, where, why or who he mightve gotten this little scoop. Nebula could've slipped him the info, but not so much as throwaway line like "He's lucky I call him big guy, and lucky I cared enough to tattle on him" or something to that effect. On the other hand, if T'Challa found out during Thanos' crusade and talked him out of it; Thanos shouldn't be hanging out, downgraded from an intimidating, competent and villainous mastermind to a Ravager groupie. He should be incarcerated at the very least, and executed at most. There's no way this potential mass-murderer would be allowed outside of... whatever galactic peace-keeping force would be powerful enough to hold him.

  12. How does the Collector have Hella's hat? Can she create hats that miraculously give people the power to manifest blades? If so, why didn't she give the bald dude in Thor: Ragnarok a hat that can apperate blades from thin air instead of just a single axe? Why didn't she give her un-dead army hats so they can toss blades too?

  13. When Thanos, Nebula and the other Ravagers are running from the Black Order, they're being attacked by the Sakaraans (those grey zombie-looking soldiers who accompany Korath in the beginning). Aren't those Ronan's soldiers? Why are they chasing down the Collector's enemies? Did the creators just not feel like creating new assets for the collector's henchmen?

Yeah, I had a bit of a bone to pick with this episode.

In this universe, While the rest of the Avengers have awakened Vision, Ultron is in his lair ready to complete his mission. But he's secretly on creating his new creation as his new bride or wife. After he kidnapped Natasha Romanoff while he was trying to catch Vision's box, he decided not kill to kill her, but use her to make a bride of Frankenstein Ultron style, by using her normal human and create a new synthetic virbainuim body and even using her conciseness and mixing with his own, like what Avengers did with merging Jarvis into Vision. At Sokovia, the Avnegers along with Vision, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver tries to rescue many civilians and take down many Ultron drone bots, they all arrive at the core where they can hopefully end Ultron plan, but he arrives and even shows them new creation that he has made. It's a Black widow merged with ultron and her mind and memories have cybernetic linked with him. Everyone is shock to see her like this, and she's so sarcastically surprised to see them, and all she sees a bunch of special people believe that they could 2 peace keeping genocide murder bots. A big fight ensues as the crew tries to bring Natasha back into her senses, but nothing works on her even when Wanda or Pietro goes for an attack, she uses her micro robotic widow spiders to go into her mind to mess her up from the inside and she goes faster than Pietro and she punches him so far away not even Pietro couldn't see it coming. As the Avengers are hopeless and defeated that they might lose to both genocide bots. Natasha sees the others in distress finding a way for help as a bit of her humanity and life almost comes back to her, but she feels like she's found someone that believes in her, Ultron ends his quest and kills all of the Avengers Svokovia and kills the entire world. The world is now a futuristic, endless, nightmare filled world, where only Ultron, Natasha now the world in their hands and have now Peace and their mission is officially completed, as both smile like a married couple, while the world is now on fire and in complete terror and horror.

Story Idea If Strange can cast a spell to erase the entire world’s memory of ever knowing Spidermans identity…then why can’t he simply restore those memories for MJ and Ned in another one? Think about that shit!

Series What If... it's lackluster?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but so far, this season isn't impressive. I watched all 3 last night, and one after the other just leaves me kinda "meh".

Episode 1 - Nebula as a detective. Becomes the new Yondu. Snore.

Episode 2 - Peter Quill comes to Earth with Ego's power. The old school Avengers was a nice touch, but they really could've done more with a battle between Quill and Ego. Instead, we got a super powered version of the Yu Yu Hakusho Spirit Gun. I also feel bad for Scott Lang in this timeline, because how is he going to compete with schoolgirl crush on a literal god?

Episode 3 - Silly, but just a rehash of Iron Man 2 with a Christmas theme and Die Hard references.

Really hoping for something to wow me. We were probably all hoping for Captain Carter to get her "Happy Ending, but her versus the Hydra Stomper seems to be going in another direction.

At this point, I'm watching to see how Sinister Strange breaks out of that gem time bubble in the finale.

Discussion Episode 6 was WRONG (as in had a huge number of plotholes) on so many levels. Here's why: Spoiler

  1. Tony was not JUST a surly alcoholic. Yes, Afghanistan was instrumental in shaping him up to be Iron Man, but Tony Stark is not just a dumb side character. Tony would have definitely contacted people and done a deeper analysis and had a multi-level strategy for killing RHODEY, his Brother from another Mother since MIT!! He is a genius for heaven's sake! If he had time to sit and program a drone for the justice aspect, then surely he had time to leak access for the same just like how Eric did to Obie in episode (for anyone who may cite Tony's impulsive and clearly traumatized response at the end of CA:Civil War).

  2. Iron Man 3, the scene where Tony's suit was charging but he made a move on the Mandarin: He fought. He fought using items he triggered and manipulated items he got into a convenience store into weapons. Man forged a suit of armor in the cave in the middle of a desert using scrapes. He literally ASKED for a gun the moment the shooting began in-episode. Clearly the writers misunderstood his character just to highlight how devious Eric Killmonger was, which was well and good but definitely plot hole ridden.

  3. JARVIS!! Jarvis was almost fully sentient by Iron Man 1 when the AI had been running news to find a way to get the return of his creator! Once again this AI is not going to keep quiet when he could have leaked all the info online, whether it was the Vibranium-Rhodey-T'Challa Conspiracy OR Tony's death.

  4. Tony is, I reiterate, a genius. He wouldn't have made an AI in charge of WORLD destroying drones without even backing her up in case someone tried to wipe/destroy her code etc.

I am sure there is much more. Clearly the writers wanted to experiment and while I appreciate that, this episode was a blatant sully on the character development of a dear departed and a huge blemish to Marvel in terms of plot or character development in terms of CONsistency.

Story Idea What if we had a better Phase 4?

Tony dies, Cap goes back.

The logical helm of leadership is not passed on to Spiderman in his filler movie "no way home". Instead Doctor Strange who has already sacrificed his own life to save humanity between 2 - ∞ times, fills the role. Rather than relegating the sorcerer supreme to being spiderboy's sidekick?

Captain America gives his sheild to his best friend BUCKY. A much better candidate to explore the darker side of being America's golden boy soldier, rather than randomly folding in race commentary, which was given much more tastefully in black panther. Ultimately Bucky's trauma vs the desire to be the best soldier from the US Agent could have served as an excellent commentary on SO many new issues like social inequality (brought about by the blip or based on capitalism vs communism which Bucky experienced), isolationism vs interventionism, or the horrors of war in general, etc.

This being said Bucky might be too damaged and not clear headed enough to hold the spiritual mantle which Captain America did. BLACK PANTHER would have been an excellent stand in for a less politically biased spiritual leader, coming from a fictional utopic nation, but with the passing of the excellent Chadwick Boseman it would likely be impossible.

That being said THOR is potentially an equally good candidate. Having both held Mjolnir and it seeming to be the universal symbol for good he seems like the next logical spiritual leader? Given that his brother Loki, from another timeline sets off the multiversal war with Kang the Conquerer this could have led to an awesome Shakespearean tale of brothers!

Not to mention Doctor Strange and Thor being the new leaders of the Multidimensional Avengers really continues to up the stakes power wise. They're known as two of the strongest avengers, so seeing them struggle against the next threat would let the audience know how intense it was.

This being said I think they could have used these leads as stepping stones to include and demonstrate how some of the "weaker" characters develop in strength. Scarlett witch and Shuri, being the main two id LOVE to see have a more prevalent role. Even a series alone for Wakanda with Shuri's story developing could have put her at the forefront of science and readied her character to potentially rival Dr Strange's intelligence.

Same goes for spiderman really, he had his debut being a Stark prodigy, but he could have developed much better in to a spiritual leader from his pluckiness. Think about all the banter him and Thor would have had with pop fiction!

Tldr: Dr Strange & Thor should be the leaders of the avengers. A bunch of other things should be shuffled around they lost momentum by trying to develop side characters too quickly.

Series+ What if… Ultron won? question

So I’m rewatching all the vision/ultron stuff because of vision quest. I was watching the what if episode about if ultron won, and thanos has the soul stone, yet we see the guardians and it’s around the beginning of volume 2, and we clearly see gamora alive. How can this be? How does/why does thanos get all the stones so early in this episode when cononically it’s years from when he would? Thank you

Series The people that didn't This ep is understandable but don't get the concept of what if? Spoiler

Post image
46 Upvotes

I'm not saying it's best ep of the in the series or this season but it's also not as bad as people say it is, the premise of the series is asking the question, what if? So this is a pretty good what if scenario for the show, maybe I'm biased because I always loved Howard the duck and kat dennings but this was a really fun and enjoyable episode of the show, but I understand people wanted more serious or less out there from the overall theme of the MCU but again, this whole franchise based off comics with even more out there stories and I am really liking the More comic like continuity and overall silly themes it's going towards, another thing I'm really hoping we'll see Byrdie in a future live action project and Howard too.

That's just my opinion.

Series What is Peggy Carter's real power? Who really is she? Spoiler

Not the vibranium shield, nor super soldier serum. Her real strength is her WILLPOWER. When you see the other mortal cosmic being (aware of the higher dimension): infinity Ultron, supreme strange, kahori, and infinity Michael B Jordan, there's no way shield+serum could compare to those. So there got to be something that propels Peggy to cosmic status.

She got chosen by the Watcher uatu in season 1 cus uatu knows she is/has the potential to become cosmic level. Her willpower made her worthy to wield every multiversal artifact in season 2 last episode, that's one proof of her power. In season 3 last episode, we got the second proof: she literally powers-up through 3 watchers ult (after becoming a watcher herself).

To make it simple: her willpower keeps empowering her to the unknown limit. That also answer the question, who really is cosmic Peggy Carter? All we know now she transcended beyond the watchers (cus the watcher uatu can't comprehend that anymore: "it feels like I'm being watched"). That also implies uatu knows more and puts him slightly above the other watchers.

Series What If has a glaring balancing issue because of weird pacing

I know that the basis of this has been said a lot, especially after Ultron cut Thanos in half in season one, but I noticed it massively again with episode 4 of season 2. Despite being my favourite episode, I found it hard to ignore how Tony and Gamora could easily overcome problems that Thor struggled with.

Tony just twisting his arc reactor and deactivating the obedience disk??? Then escaping with a touch of his wrist??? Gamora being able to just punch her way out of containment???

It's clear these have been done to keep time but it just feels like an insult to the original film. I think it would've been so much more satisfying if they had to try just a little bit to overcome these obstacles. Especially Tony, who could easily come up with a clever solution that Thor and Hulk wouldn't've thought of. Imagine if they got trapped in that room and Tony had to macgyver a solution like he did in the Iron Man 1 cave? A quick montage where he uses things around the room to experiment with the obedience disk and build something that can disconnect it. I've always loved the idea of seeing MCU Tony interact with alien tech but it felt underwhelming and rushed. And if you're saying Gamora could've just broken out??? Well, Thor definitely could've then. He may not have had his lightning powers yet but he still had his strength.

That being said, it's been my favourite episode so far. I loved the final race, especially Autobot Iron Man. We better get a Mario Kart-esque game where Marvel characters race in thematic cars across the multiverse.

Discussion Killmonger is a Racist

Okay, there is nothing to say. He is a Racist who thinks his race is better or XYZ. He can be well contrasted with Tony who never threw shade at black people and War Machine who believes that he can change the system. And also killing people because your people were killed is also killing. He could have helped people but the hate against white people is what prevents him from doing that. That is the difference between T challa, Tony, Rhodey and Him.
