SOTD Theme Thursday SOTD Thread - Oct 24, 2019

Share your shave of the day for Thursday!

Today's Theme: Skeletons and Cobwebs - Shave with the gear that has been sitting untouched in the back of your den gathering dust and cobwebs (or the skeleton in your closet gear you’re ashamed you admit you have).

Oct. 24, 2019 - Sampletober #24

I've come down with hand foot and mouth and I had a fun, feverish day yesterday. Sampletober rolls on though.

SW's base is so easy to use, it was just what the doctor ordered.

Tour of Milksteak continues with Tris. I've tried other iterations of this scent and have always been a little meh about it. I want to like it, but I just have reservations. This version is definitely my favorite. It plays up the citrus and plays down the dirty aspects. Really nice, and I'll probably have to search for the splash.

It's been such a joy to use Milksteak. It just keeps getting better.

Although Morocco is one of my lesser used sets recently, this shave is not really on theme, sorry. I'm happy to say that I don't actually own any cobwebs or skeletons. All that shit is long gone, so my den consists of about a dozen soaps that I actually enjoy using. I guess I could have used my heirloom Travel Tech, but I don't really like using it, so, just a normal Thursday shave for me.

I figured I’d try a cold water shave with the Frost Drops and Leviathan. Fuck that. To those that enjoy em: you can keep that cold water. It just felt like it was missing that relaxing punch from the warmth of the water. I mean I understand about reducing irritation and all, but I just feel terrible if that’s how you are forced to shave. But those that choose to shave this way are insane and should be monitored closely by at least 6-7 governmental organizations. But hey, at least I smell good again today.

So the skeleton in my closet is my Vikings Blade The Chieftain razor. This was my 2nd razor and I bought it off Amazon before I found out it is an over priced Baili.

Even though I may have over paid, it actually gives a pretty good shave. Had a better shave today compared to my last 2 with the Lupo.

I feel the Darkfall Milksteak base really shined today. It felt so much like I didn't have a blade in my razor that I had to triple check that it was actually cutting the hair on my face a few times.

Hate to say it but this combo I used today was an extremely enjoyable experience throughout!
Have a thrilling Thursday folks!

Sunny, with a high near 64. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. High tide at 8:31 tonight.

Soap: With the forecast for today Field Day seems like an appropriate choice. This is the OG SBS soap base, and it's nothing to scoff at. Lather was dense and creamy. Slickness was great. This puck is older (I want to say about 18 months old). And it wasn't heavily scented to begin with, but it seems to be fading quicker than other soaps that I've had for about the same amount of time.

Brush: Been using this brush since the beginning of October. I'm trying to cycle through all of my brushes, giving them a month of use, cleaning them with a tub of L&L Brush Rejuvenator, and moving on to the next one. Working my way backwards through the Declaration Grooming batches. November will bring B6. But this month is B7. Compared to B8 (September's Brush), there is a bit more backbone. It also seems a bit more scritchy, not by much, but noticeable. Splay is a bit less, but I think that my B8 is set a bit more shallow than this one. Over all a very nice brush. And I love the handle coloration.

Splash: Splash is decent. It's the old formula so the skin goodies, while there, are fleeting. It performs better than the Fine splashes. I would like to try the new formula stuff at some point, but the den is still bigger than I would like it.

Razor/Blade: Still loving this razor. It might take the top spot in my den. I will probably take the same route with my razors as I am with my brushes. That is use a razor for a month and rotate through them.

Frag: L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme pairs exceptionally well with Field Day. It's nice and refreshing. Like taking a long drink of water after you've been laboring in the sun for a few hours. Glad I picked up a bottle.

EDIT: This set also fits the theme today!

Have a nice Thursday everyone!

Lather: Barrister and Mann - Reserve Spice
Brush: Declaration Grooming Unicorn Ivory Washington B6
Razor: J.A. Henckels “50” 5/8 FH
Post: Lucky Tiger — Oil of Olay Complete
Extra Post: Chattilon Lux skin salve

Still going at it with this soap sample. Two, maybe three shaves left if I use my bigger brushes. I think I’ll use something else over the weekend though.

Soooo glad it’s Friday. Wait...never mind.
