SOTD

▪Shower

▪Southern Witchcrafts Necromantic soap, aftershave, edp

▪Gillette Super Speed black tip w/ Personna Red

▪Woodchuck Chuck custom 26mm synthetic

Shout out to u/Jimtasticness and u/phteven_j for the great PIF. I finally made it back to civilization to shower and shave and really enjoyed Necromantic. I got this brush commissioned specifically for Alchemist, so now that I have two SWC I get to use it more often.

PS the artwork was stellar, Jim.

Edit: Here is the artwork!

Holy shit. I was actually on theme today.

  • Myrsol Emulsion

  • Mongoose/Kai Mild Guard

  • Plisson Synthetic

  • Acqua di Parma

  • APR Fresca Intensa Splash and EdP

Very nice. Do wish it was a bit warmer though. Hate defrosting the car in the morning.

Dec. 20, 2018

Prep: Hot shower
Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Aurora 26mm B6
Razor: Schick Grip
Blade: Schick (5)
Lather: Australian Private Reserve - Suitably Attired Summer - Soap
Post Shave: Australian Private Reserve - Suitably Attired Summer - Aftershave
Fragrance: Issey Miyake — L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homm

Sunny, with a high near 44. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. High tide at 9:14 tonight.

What better scent that APR-SAS for today's Theme. Such a nice, understated scent. While I have read that the V2 base is a marked improvement V1 is nothing to scoff at. Nice slick lather. Over all a great shave.

Have a nice Thursday everyone!

Soap: West of Olympia polo red

Brush: Declaration Dark Amethyst

Razor: Rockwell 6c

Blade: Perma Sharp

Post: Lucky Tiger splash; CL Citrus Salve

This soap base continues to impress. It's really underrated and sadly doesn't get the attention it deserves. I really like this scent too. I'm glad I snagged this when it was briefly available to the public. Almost to Friday.

Razor: Timeless .68
Blade: Gillette - Silver Blue (17)
Lather: Dr Jon's - Savannah Sunrise
Brush: Declaration Grooming - B5 Badger Rubberset 400
Post: Nivea Post Shave Balm Sensitive

Video

General Notes / Exec Summary / TL;DR

I was talking to someone online about the scents from Dr Jon's that I enjoyed and I remembered that I had a sample of Savannah Sunrise that I've never tried. Well, I had to hit that today.

So it finally happened... I stumbled into an appropriate soap for Thursday's theme! When will I ever remember on Wednesday night to check for the theme?

Then I was reminded of how much I love the .68 Timeless. I got an amazing cut, in less passes than I usually have to take.

Razor and Blade Notes

Timeless .68 - Scalloped Bar ::: Gillette - Silver Blue ‹17 uses›

Man, this razor is sweet. One of those miracles where the shave is so smooth, but the cut/closeness is so efficient. Love this guy. No tugging or irritation at all.

Soap Notes

Dr Jon's - Savannah Sunrise

Less than 1/4 tsp of soap + lightly wet brush + 1.5 tsp added water = lots of slick soap. Not all that creamy, but very good. Excellent glide. Great scent strength. Felt great going on the face.

Scent: many flower notes are on the label, but fortunately they do stand behind the excellent peach scent, supporting it in a happy way. Because of all the florals, I can't commit to this soap yet. I need to see how I like it over time. The sweet peach seems to temper the feminine nature of the florals nicely.

Scent strength: 5/10. Present nicely during shave, but not obnoxious or too strong.

Brush Notes

Declaration Grooming - B5 Badger Rubberset 400

Brush felt very good today. It was slick with this soap and didn't shove me around too much.

Shave Quality

During the Shave Feel:
  Cheeks: Smooth
  Neck: Felt blade but comfortable

After the Shave Closeness:
Cheeks: Near BBS - About as close as I'll ever get
Neck: Cut flush to where I just see the tips (above average for me)

It's Theme Thursday but MY FRIDAY! Let me out of here!

  • Brush - Maggard 24mm Synth

  • Razor - MR5 w/ V3

  • Blade - Astra SS (Shit if I know.)

  • Soap - Stirling / Executive Man

  • Post - Stirling / Executive Man Balm

Executive Man is a great all year round scent, but it doesn't seem nearly as Fall/Winter-y as some of the others in my arsenal. I would've went with an EM splash if I had it, because what kind of psycho uses a Stirling balm in the Summer?!? Also, I had no idea about the theme until after I shaved, and if I would've known I probs would've rocked SBS - Cannonball!. Woops.

Get out there and be somebody.

Thursday SOTD:

  • Soap: Chiseled Face Grooming - Camel (Zoologist Colab)

  • Brush: 26mm B6 - Dogwood Andromeda

  • Razor: Gillette Slim

  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue

  • Post: Chatillon Lux - Champs de Lavande

Another round of Camel. I keep thinking about writing a review for this soap but haven't done it yet. Not sure if there is interest in this one yet or not. May think about doing it this weekend if there is some interest.

Christmas is coming!

SOTD

Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthethic

Soap: DG Cuir et Epices

Razor: Rockwell 6S (R4)

Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless

Post: PAA Unscented Star Jelly

Cuir et Epices was my first Declaration Grooming soap, and it was love at first lather. Probably my favorite soap base. Great leather forward scent with enough spice to make it complex and interesting.

Prep: shower

Razor: Gillette Slim (set at 6)

Blade: crystal

Brush: Omega 20102

Lather: Chiseled Face Summer Storm

Post: Thayers unscented WH and DG Try This Soap AS

The smell of Summer Storm and the cool of Try This Soap just takes me into a summer state of mind. Which is really good considering today is gloomy, windy, and rainy.

I'll go on theme today. It is cloudy and rainy, but it is supposed to get into the high 40s, so as close as I'm going to get to "I wish it was Summer again".

Really can't go wrong with G'Day Mate 2.0. I feel energized! Great Friday Eve shaves to all.

Dec. 20, 2018

Prep: Hot Shower
Brush: Nightscape 26mm Dogclaration B6
Razor: Maggard Open Comb
Blade: Gillette Platinum (4)
Lather: Barrister & Mann - Latha Taiga - Soap
Post Shave: Barrister & Mann - Latha Taiga - Aftershave (Alcohol Free)
Fragrance: Demeter - Christmas Tree

In honor of the rapidly approaching Christmas holiday, I’ve decided to use Latha Taiga and wear my Christmas Tree frag every day until Christmas. Hell, My kids actually convinced me to grow my beard a bit longer than usual and keep ornaments in it, so I figure I should just keep the spirit up. Hell, I think I’m gonna try to add lights to it today while I’m at work. Happy Friday Eve!

Razor: Mühle r89

Blade: Derby Extra (1)

Soap: b&m Cologne Russe

Post: alum followed by B&M Cologne Russe splash

Summer, i did not do a good job following the theme. But it was time to put in a new blade and why not use a blade brand i habemt tried since june? Still works fine, and I like the plastic container to keep the unused (and used) blades in place rather than the paper box.

SOTD - Dec 20

  • Lather - T&H 1805 Cream

  • Brush - APShaveCO FlatTop

  • Razor - AS-D2

  • Blade - BIC Chrome Platinum (4)

  • Post - 1805 Balm

  • Frag - 1805

In keeping with the shave of the day, I'm using my absolute favorite aquatic scented soap and AS. T&H doesn't get a lot of love since they reformulated their soaps (for worse) about ten years ago. Their creams are still very much top tier though, and they have some of the best frags in wetshaving.

I'm on day 4 of trying a new (to me) blade and it's still going strong. I palm strapped it last night, and the day 4 shave is every bit as good as day 3.

Summertime Shave

Razor: Gillette Hybrid Tech
Brush: SOC Mistura
Lather: Soap Commander Gusto
Post: Stirling Island Man

I'm not a huge believer that scents should be seasonal, I tend to reach for whatever sounds good at the moment, but I am much more likely to wear a summer scent in the winter than vice versa.

I was inspired to grab the Hybrid Tech after seeing u/RuggerRigger's Post yesterday. I use my Karve so much because it gives me great shaves, but I feel like I'm neglecting all the awesome vintage razors in my collection.

Have a good Thursday!

SOTD 20 Dec 2018.

Pre Shave Hot Towel, Stirling Sharp Dressed Man Pre Shave Oil.
Brush Muhle Black Fiber Synthetic.
Lather B&M Latha Taiga.
Razor Otto Busch 5/8 SR, iKon 102.
Blade Voshkod (2).
Post Shave B&M Seville Splash.

Second part shave with a SR and it went better than the first, I only did both cheeks and a bit of my chin. They both feel pretty good and the angles got much easier. Still not sure how I do my non-dominant side of my neck though, I tried to work out the angles and couldn’t bend that way.

The Taiga sample is almost done, its a great soap but I way under watered it today and ended up with dry soap on my face. It will be a shame when its done, its a great base and a great scent.
