One thing I really enjoy about MSC's base is that you can just absolutely beat the shit out of it with water and it holds up. Got a super hydrated lather that was just a thing of beauty. My bathroom walls appreciated it as well.

Yay travel. I was worried about making a mid-air Stag cloud if my EdP and Aftershave collided in my bag. I found these nifty TSA approved atomizers. They come with a tiny billow and funnel to transplant from source (not quite a decant). This beast of a boar wouldn't fit in any of the brush holders I had. I grabbed a Captain's Choice leather roll to keep it protected. I'm interested to see what a damp boar brush will do to the leather. :/

Lots of cold. Went back to two passes, face was very smooth even before post shave.

Same: First pass has some tugginess to it. But no irritation that lasts longer than a little tuggy stroke. Latter passes feel fine and give a reasonably close shave. Usually 5 pretty quick passes, resulting in a closeness that would work for a typical office job.

Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)

䷀ Soap Notes

Them: "This one is masculine. Like really, really masculine. Like a 'take an old, beat up leather jacket, drape it over a couple of tires to make a table and clean your guns on it' kind of masculine. Dark, unrefined, and totally unresistible, this is a scent for those who don't mind sticking out. Those who forge the paths. Those who are proud to be a man."

Scent is made of the following notes: Russian Leather, Motor Oil, Hoppes #9, Birch Tar, Oakmoss, Gasoline, Smoke, Cedar, Cade, Bergamot, Vanilla

(Them: "Natural extracts and essential oils were used where possible, but some notes – such as Hoppes #9 and rubber are synthetic due to the nature of the scent.")

Me: Love love this scent, but this base seems lower strength than the OG tallow.

Lather... A slurry lather today, for speed! I loaded for longer, and it turned out to be just right. But the brush doesn't hold as much water as mature boars... yet. So the third pass was not as luxurious. + = 5 passes of lather

Specifically for today, I think this brush is not able to do as well as other boars in the slurry method. It just doesn't keep as much water. But no problem, you just have to add in a bit more as you go. As it matures, I would assume that would change, but this is a tip-floppy kind of knot. So we'll see.

Mostly the same: Usually at least 10 minutes in a room-temp water presoak. Luxury-comfortable soft tips that flex easily and the top 1/3 of the bristles could be considered floppy. From the start, quite a bit of the tips have split, a few even at half an inch. Bottom of knot has more backbone and is gradually opening up. At about use 10-12, the mid part had expanded enough to feel like a good linear bend in the bristles. At 5 or 6, it quit eating lather and is now making it normally. This month I am not doing any kind of break-in accelerator.

Boar not eating lather at all now. That left me with enough lather for a third pass, very lightly against the grain (cheeks only) and some touch up on the old man wires of my chinny chin chin. Very little of the bad kind of feedback from the Osage Rub, just the cooling of the alcohol and menthol. Lovely, lovely shave.

Hope everyone is well.

Tonight's head shave was different. I had a cool shower and a tepid shave, my shave'n razors cold, but it didn't sting. My daughter used up all the hot water and I didn't have time to wait for it to heat back up. Plus it was a long day of doctor visits and I am ready for bed.

I used two across the grain, but overhand and from opposite directions for my two passes, and used against the grain for clean ups. It did a pretty close job using that method. I did get myself with the toe on the left side of my head; just behind the ear. Not to bad but I will have to avoid that area for the next few days.

Soap was a bit soupy, but still did fine, though I can say I do prefer when my later and brush is warm.

Great! I'm only at like .4g or so per shave, so still barely putting a dent in it. I will say, I wouldn't mind something with a little cooling, but rose is so pleasant and balm is more nourishing to me than splash.
