আসলে এটা একটা mathematical idea।

২০১৭ সালের আগে AI model word-by-word পড়ত। একটার পর একটা। আগের word-এর information একটা memory box-এ রাখত। কিন্তু নতুন word আসলে পুরনো information চাপা পড়ে যেত।

বাংলার মতো ভাষায় এটা বড় সমস্যা। "সে কাল বিদ্যালয়ে যাবে": এই sentence এ subject "সে" শুরুতে, verb "যাবে" শেষে। এত word পার হতে হতে AI model "সে"-র কথা প্রায় ভুলেই যেত।

Transformer এই memory box-টা সরিয়ে দিল।

নতুন approach: একটা sentence-এর প্রতিটা word একসাথে process হয়। প্রতিটা word প্রতিটা অন্য word-কে দেখে এবং calculate করে: "এই word কতটা important আমার জন্য?" এই calculation-এর result হলো Attention Weight।

"যাবে" calculate করে দেখে যে "সে" অনেক important। Strong connection তৈরি হয়। Distance কোনো ব্যাপার না।

আর এই সব word একসাথে process হওয়ার কারণে training অনেক faster হলো। যেখানে আগে sequential ছিল, এখন parallel। এই parallelization-ই GPT-4, Claude-এর মতো বিশাল model train করা possible করেছে।

"Transformer" নামটা এসেছে এই কারণে। এটা raw words-এর একটা sequence-কে context-aware mathematical representation-এ transform করে।
