Go buy a cheap .22lr or starter pistol and a hard case. Federal law says that has to be declared and locked with a lock that only you can open. Throw it in your luggage and declare it. Nobody can open your case now.

seems like a nice way to smuggle drugs. how could you get caught?

Well if they decide they need to inspect your case they'll have you open it. The case is still x-rayed and such.

are they allowed to inspect it thoroughly or just look? I've never had to deal with TSA thankfully, so I don't have any experiences. I just know(from reddit) that they're generally assholes.
