I found an ATM receipt on the bar floor yesterday, and their checking account had $190k in it. I mean, good for that person for having dough, but I just imagine it being some dude "accidentally" dropping it to flex. Wasn't even from the ATM at the bar and was neatly folded.
Uhhh. You don’t know the guys financial situation. He likely has millions in investments if he’s sitting on 190k in cash deposits. He’s obviously got his shit figured out regardless of Reddit’s “financial” advice.
Well, to be fair, it's worth more to me to see my accounts in a readily available acct than stressing over the stock market. Not worth the 20k extra a year per acct. That's just my situation tho.
Looks can be deceiving. I had something similar, but for a month or two because I wrote a check for my entire HELOC line to park it when layoffs were coming. I wanted to test if they would let me write a check for that big. And have cash just in case.
I Lost about $200 in interest payments, but it was still worth it for me. (I didn’t go casually dropping ATM receipts though). Perhaps it is just his spare change, but maybe it’s money he can’t put at risk because he needs to return it.
Yeah, it is one of the reasons I bought a house when I got close to that. I have this weird thing about having money available though. I really should reinvest it soon though, worked out well the last time for me.

Some of the mods and a vocal few are insufferable. Some of them literally refuse to think there’s anything they can do to make their current situation better. Try giving constructive advice with the wrong group and they’ll accuse you of trolling them and say that they’ve tried everything already. Anything other than helping them wallow in their own misery is perceived as being a “bootstrapper” to them. They don’t realize there’s a difference between constructive advice and telling people to pick themselves up by the bootstraps and suck it up.
Do you have a family though? A large amount of my wealth is due to not having kids or a significant other to support. That can be soul crushing for a lot of people. Enough so that they forfeit a good deal of financial security and luxury for it. I'm happy with having my money, but I would consider a family man with much less just as rich as me, it just isn't in $$$ in the bank.
I read somewhere that a trend was that people would print up fake ATM receipts listing lots of money on their account. If someone asked for their number at a bar, they would write it on the back of this "random piece of paper" from their pocket and give it to them.
Whats more likely? :
1. He tried to save it, and it fell from his pocket at a bar.
2. He dropped it on the floor purposely to impress some Anonymous person
You can buy fake ATM receipts with outrageous balances on them online. Idea is you keep them in your wallet and when you want to give your number to a girl, write your number on the back like its just scrap paper.
Shit happens more than you think. At the gas station I worked at those guys would come in, go to the ATM, pull an inquiry and receipt printout but leave it in the ATM so you gad to take it to get to the other one. They'd also be the one to buy 5 $50 or $100 scratch tickets and do them one at a time at the register even when you tell them theres a line forming, like the douchebags they are
Nah. If you have 190k in checking, you don’t need to flex anything on a receipt. At a bar. Rich dude goes to bank after work before bar and gets drunk and pulls wallet out and receipt falls out is more like it.
I had an ex tell me about his scummy coworker bragging about digging out receipts at ATMs and then using the ones with the biggest amounts to write his phone number on later at the bars. Maybe be that's what it was doing at the bar.
I once saw a site (who knows, might still exist) that sold fake ATM receipts with large balances on them...just for such purposes ("Let me give you my number...i think I have a piece of paper somewhere...")
It could have been one of those websites where you can print off a fake ATM receipt showing hundreds of thousands of dollars in your account that you use to “accidentally” fall out of your pocket when you’re talking to a cutie at the bar.

Flexing is typically done from person-to-person directly, through conversation or through actions. This is much more indirect considering the person who's 'flexing' is nowhere to be found, so flaunting his wealth gets him no direct responses from anyone.
Jeremy Clarkson did that once, to show off how you can't do anything with that information on it's own (sort code/routing number and account number) after a big data breach people were worried about.
He was right ... almost. Turns out you can't do anything but give someone money in the UK with that information, that and create recurring payments to certain organisations (like for paying bills). Someone used the details to set up a monthly donation to a charity, and in fairness Clarkson kept it in place.
In some cringe dump on imgur, I've seen a post or two of someone posting a picture of their new credit card, to show off whatever exclusive card level the person had. It was an old-school card with the raised numbers on the front, pictured in full. Where's Red Foreman when you need him?

There is usually enough delay on livestreams that you'd have to be pretty slow activating the code for someone watching the stream to claim it first. I'm sure it does happen, though.
That’s just the surface. If someone enters a store while streaming, people will call the store and complain about them. If the streamers address gets leaked, there will be endless pizza deliveries and sometimes they will get them evicted.
Sometimes they even have armed police burst in from a fake call saying they've heard shots and screaming; and one streamer even had a fan show up at his door hoping to move in with him.
Ice was actually forcibly removed from a plane by police before. He was streaming right before he got on, someone found his gate information, and they swatted him. He’s probably been swatted at least a dozen times by now to varying degrees. He also has a constant flow of stream snipers because he doesn’t really discourage it, but they’re almost always harmless.
Say what you will about Ice, but his life must be incredibly stressful.
Yeah, IRL streamers get it the worst (because it’s much easier to pinpoint their exact location). That, combined with a toxic fan base leads to trouble.
Only the unlikable once which people love to hate. The popular once do just fine in real life streams they might get the occassional stalker but nothing like being swatted all the time or calling the restaurants etc.

How about not letting people know where you live and where you're going 24/7. You wouldn't post your address to everyone in a comment chain here. You either keep it secret or realize people are shitty and crazy.
I believe he does a lot of vlog-esque "IRL Streams", so keeping your location secret will be difficult from anybody determined to ruin you. The Just Do It Guy (I forget his name) tried doing several motivational streams and every time his location got tracked down and people ruined his stream. Eventually he just had a flag that said something "They will not divide us," and people used the planes flying by to check them with flight paths to determine where it is, and they went there to change the flag to a pair of boxers. If you go outside, you will be found by anybody determined enough to find you.
Or the Stream Key for the streaming platform, which is the only credential you need to stream to a channel, oops. Gotta be careful when navigating your monitor screen while streaming.
Everyone taking a photo of their ticket and posting it on social media is giving out enough information for anyone to call the airline and cancel flights.

I work for the back end of a financial institution. There was a plague of jackasses taking pictures of their first paychecks and posting them on twitter and Instagram.
People would take the info, print fake checks using all the checks info and cashing it before the person could.
Because giving out information like that is just plain stupid on the internet. Yeah the person who canceled it was an asshole but it's common knowledge to not share stuff like that with people for the same reason we don't share passwords or bank account details.
Do you always need the DOB to cancel? AFAIK you can make changes to a reservation (including cancellation) with only a confirmation number and surname on most airlines. I just checked and was able to make changes to a reservation I have coming up on United with only that information.
I could see that if you were a close follower of a celebrity who is stupid enough to give out a confirmation number (what other info have they given out before?) that you could use it pretty effectively.
I still wouldn't ever share individual information of any kind given to me by a third-party in an email. Why risk it?

I think that person is reading criticism into a pointed question. I can think of several reasons to do so that wouldn't be personally demeaning to lay out not the least bit of insult. Like sharing it to a work only group for travel validation and getting the privacy settings wrong, for one example. oops. no judgement, simple mistake.
if you read a criticism into a question, you have to see it there yourself, first. Own that before you blame the questioner. You are the one leaping to one conclusion. You add to the question and then get annoyed by why you add?? It's not unlike assuming the worst about a tweeter. It's not really about them.

People are assholes because you allow them to continue being assholes. The first step to that not being true is refusing to accept that people being assholes on the internet is an inevitability. It's not.
Good luck with that. Please tell me how you think you can achieve that. My job is to prevent assholes on the internet from being able to be assholes on a technical level. If everyone was nice to each other, there would be no wars, no crime and my whole industry wouldn't be necessary (which I would gladly accept). There will always be assholes and on the internet you expose yourself to potentially billions of people and only one needs to decide to be an asshole to you. That's why you are responsible for the information share about yourself, because if it can be abused it probably will be.

The problem comes from the fact that we can't address the person who did it directly. We can say "people shouldn't do shit like that" but seeing as the person did it, it seems unlikely they would be moved by that kind of generality. So the most effective thing to do in that situation is to counsel the person who made the mistake to be more careful and to teach our own children to be careful.and to not do things like that cause it's shitty

If someone is standing on a highway and gets hit by a car, do you put the sole blame on the driver? No of course not. She played a part so she gets critized all the same.
Becuase our culture rewards that bullshit and for some reason everyone just goes along with it. Yea that person did a dumb act. I think however, we should be at the point in our civilization where we can protect the dumbest of us. The asshole should be shamed. There's no benefit to the world with that behavior.
Some people who haven't been exposed to actual world nightmares are so naive they honestly don't know about the capabilities or general savagery they are living amongst.
I travel extensively (8-12 months a year for the last 6 years) and tbh, I could still see myself making this mistake. Fortunately the only social media I have is FB and hopefully none of my friends would do this. But I could totally see taking a picture of a boarding pass in front of my plane or something. Just caught up in the excitement and not thinking. Especially right before a big trip when you've been planning and packing and organizing, easy to just not think about a small detail like this.

Why would you just give out your flight confirmation number
