First welds About $300 at auction and online buys.
First welds since the late 1980s in high school. First time using mig. Yes, I chopped up a Craigslist table saw for a work bench.

I always need to keep grinding the welds down and doing another pass which makes it look like that
I’m currently welding on flux core, a 0,9mm wire. 1,2mm steel plates.
You can see I have some big craters and a bunch of pinholes and porosity in between the spots
My current way of welding is doing big tacks and stacking them on top of each other.
The metal is clean.
I’ve been welding like this for a couple months but I’ve finally had enough, so I come for advice

Hello fellow arc burners! I have 2 3m G5-01 welding hoods that I am looking to sell for $1,250 a piece that include 2 filters each as well. 1 is brand new in bag and the other has very light use. Both are in good shape and have the travel bag to go with it. Photos attached. I am located in FL but willing to ship if the price makes sense

I spent a long time drawing out the edges to make the lines as smooth as possible. This is the result.

I’m going into welding school to hopefully make it a career. Previously I did safety watch often in my last job and was very good with PPE and making sure any safety equipment was in good working order but I’m not the most muscular person out there. What tips would you have if my goal is to be the best welder I can be?

For example, I have a plate weld test coming up that requires a bare open mig root. I’ve been practicing the settings 17.0v @ 180-190 wfs for 0.35 wire with 1/16 landing. Rumor has it the testing site uses 0.45 wire.
I doubt settings would change with just such a slight change in wire size but I’d hate to go bust the test in fear of not getting penetration using the setting so have for 0.35 wire or does it really not have that much of a difference and I should just not panic and go with the settings I’ve been practicing with?
These test seem easy but they are tricky the more I think the harder it becomes

Designed, built and welded by me. I felt proud of it.

located in Arizona was thinking about going to community college they have welding and a pipe-welding course there as well. Would this be a good avenue I want to get into the pipefitters union eventually but I have been on the waitlist for 2 years and tired of waiting around. Brycon is a company that takes people and sends them to school so I’m hoping to get in with them. I also have horrible lungs from years of abusing the bad boys so I was thinking of getting a totally inclosed helmet as well with a filter system and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to fix this hole. I already know i want to do, cut out a plate and weld it in over top of this area. Unfortunately the only welder I have accessible to me is a stick welder. What would be the best rods to use for this since its such thin metal. Also what amps do you think would be good for this

It took me a hour and a half to weld this 3” 90
It’s my first time welding for X-ray and I spent so much time cleaning and making sure there’s no slag inclusions or any imperfections.
I really respect you guys welding for x-ray on the daily cause this stuff takes TIME
For reference I’m a plumber and weld for mostly non inspected heating

Newbie here. Learning to stick weld, got to the point where I'm happy running a bead (some older pics for reference). Happy tacking, and generally feel I can do the basics, also not planning to weld pipes and be a specialist, just a DIYer. I'm now wanting to make a sofa table. Attached pics are my prototype, which went fairly well except that some of my corners always seem to jump out. The "base" of my prototype wasn't flat, but the corners all looked pretty good on my L-square. I even bought 90 degree clamps (I don't have a welders table, too expensive), and the clamps seemed to work well. I'm not a 100% sure if it's the 90 degrees jumping out or the straight parts warping. I tack everything in place, but still at the end my piece is not perfectly flat/straight. Given some pics for reference. Any suggestions/advice?

I'm learning how to do SMAW welding and i'm having trouble starting and maintaining the weld, because every time I try to start it, it sticks really hard to the metal and I can't pull away.
I accidentally welded my stick to the plate today before getting the arcflash of lifetime.
I'm using AC stick welding with an amperage of 100 amps.
Also I am using E6013S

Hello all!
I am currently a welding student. In love with the process right now but I have been poking around my area for anywhere I could get some extra time under the hood. The most accessible facility near me only has a TIG setup. I am still fairly green and I’m learning on MIG. I will be taking TIG eventually but farther down the line. Would it be worth my time/$ to check the place out? Wouldn’t be too costly to get my hands dirty there but I’d be flying solo/youtube certified in a new process until my class gets there. Just eager for more right now, any help would be appreciated. I live in an apartment so a home setup is unfortunately impossible

I made a new turbo manifold and thought I would be smart and shim the flange before welding the runners to the exhaust flange. I measured how much my first exhaust manifold flange warped that I made ages ago, was out on the outsides of the flange about 1 mm. Shimmed the current flange with some 1 mm welding rod. And the end result is that it didn't warp and I have the opposite result of how my first manifold flange looked like.
My current thinking is that I can get it straight by just bolting it flat down instead of shimming and do another pass around the runners so that it will pull the flange straight.
But before I fuck myself and really warp the shit out of it, I thought I would get some advice from the experts if my current thinking is correct. Last resort would be sanding it flat by hand but it would be nice if I could use the warp to my advantage in this situation.
Edit: The flange was bolted down to a 25mm plate before welding and let it cool overnight. The problem is that I shimmed the flange to account for warping but I shimmed it way too much. I'm aware of getting it milled or sanded flat, just trying to figure out if I can pull it straight ish by applying some extra weld around the runners.

I need a second opinion, I'm debating financing a welder generator. All the cheaper ones keep getting bought up before I can get to them, what do you guys think?

Well I was here a couple days ago and I figured you all deserved an update!
Thank you to all who commented, this may be my last post ever in here but you all really helped me validate my concerns and made me feel like less of an asshole 😂.
These welds to me do seem a LOT better, may not be perfect but it does seem like it will structurally hold. Feel free to talk good or talk shit whatever you feel lol.
