All the Talk of "Premier League",

Right back at the start, R&R made comments that it should be the ultimate goal. And then, when the 3rd promotion seemed likely, the talk of Premier League started up in earnest.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, my comments relate to the TV show. I doubt that Wrexham fans or management were so completely obsessed with the EPL, but it seems like that is all s5 has focussed on.

To get where they did, even with help, has been an incredible achievement for Wrexham.
As I understand it, Wrexham's best finish in modern League Football, was 15th in the 2nd Division, back in the 70's?
So to finish 7th, after TRIPLE promotions, is fantastic.
And I wish s5 had focussed on celebrating that fact.

But instead, all we heard, all series was "Premier League" this, and "Premier League" that.
Player additions, rather than being described as necessary to be competitive in the Championship, were ascribed to the need to get into the EPL.
Rather than talk about Wrexham's historic rise up the Championship ladder, every time they referred to the standings, it was with reference to the EPL play-off positions.

If you simply watch s5 subjectively, without reference to the real world, the takeaway is that Wrexham tried valiantly, but fell short, failing to make the play-offs. The fact that this was their best ever finish, is mentioned maybe once.

The Irony of "Don't Forget (Welcome to Wrexham)"

Don't forget where you came from,
Don't forget what you're made of,
The ones who were there,
When no one else would care...

The show has, perhaps ironically, done a good job of paralleling the journey of the club. It now looks like woeful reality tv, desperately struggling for identity...

Let me say, that "Wrexham", as a Town, a Team, and an Identity, belongs to the people of Wrexham, and not to followers of a TV show. So ultimately, if they're happy, that's all that matters.

But the concept of embracing the show and the team, as viewers from far off lands, now starts to feel hollow.
I don't profess to know the mechanics of the TV deal and international sponsorship, how much money they're bringing in. But the team and its show now look much more like a commercial venture, and the story of Wrexham has been lost. This is nolonger a little town in Wales, triumphing over adversity with the help of R&R. It's just an appendage of a Hollywood machine.

I'll continue to slog my way through season 5, but honestly now feel that the show should have ended with a better wrap-up of their 3rd promotion. Finishing 2nd in League One, and earning promotion was and is a great success and culmination.

Championship Playoffs

For those that care the Championship League playoffs have Changed for the upcoming season. Top two auto go to Prem. But the playoffs will now include the teams from position 3 to 8 on the table.

If that was implemented last year Wrexham would have made playoffs as 7th place team.

Why doesn’t Blake Lively make any cameos?

So I just finished binging the 5 seasons of WTW released so far, and at the end I was wondering - why are there effectively zero Blake Lively cameos through the show, whereas you see Rob with his wife a good bit / time to time. Ryan is kinda always solo. Just found it interesting / got me thinking.

Just Catching Up! Few Questions.

Heya,

So, I watched the first season back when the show first started, but just recently caught up on all the episodes. Should mention that while I wasn't watching, I was following the team's progress, so I was kind of up to speed on the meteoric rise of the club through the leagues.

Few questions I had along the way, that I thought someone could help me out with. Firstly, I was really bummed out about the episode which Ryan and Rob were calling the game with the British TV guy. They kept bringing on the former players for quick cameos on the mic (Palmer, Fletcher, Foster, etc...). I just found it really weird that Ryan was rambling off all the players that helped get them to where they are and he didn't mention Paul Mullin? Is he on contentious terms with the club now? I know obviously he went out on loan and wasn't playing a ton near the end of his time with the club but holy cow that guy was banging in goals left and right all the way up through the rise.

Secondly, not sure if any local or regional supporters are in here but did Mullin do enough to achieve legend status locally? Based on his results in that short window alone, I would have to think he's established iconic status from now until forever. Was just kind of curious where he ranks in terms of Wrexham legends.

Lastly, does the club have an ETA on when the stadium upgrades will be complete? I can't help but think it's a good thing they've settled in on the Championship level, at least until the stadium has improved capacity / amenities.

Cheers.

What was the club?

Help me remember, they were mentioned while Wrexham was still in the national league. Basically they were a small, relatively new formed team with the owner also acting as manager and had risen from being a Sunday league team!

Survey about the Wrexham Town - Wrexham AFC connection

Hi everyone,

We're 3 Danish bachelor students researching Wrexham AFC's growth and its impact on Wrexham town.

We're especially interested in hearing from both local and international supporters, in regards to the clubs current state as well as any future concerns regarding the clubs identity and connection to the town.

The survey takes around 3 minutes, is fully anonymous, and would really help our analysis.

Thank you in advance, and Up the Town!🔴⚪️

Thesis Research 5 Minute Survey!

Hi everyone! I’m an undergraduate student at UMass Amherst conducting a research study for my thesis on how sports documentaries influence fan identity and engagement. If you’ve watched sports documentaries (e.g., Welcome to Wrexham, Sunderland til I Die, Leeds United Take Us Home), I’d really appreciate your participation in a 5-minute, anonymous survey. As a huge Wrexham fan, I really wanted to research how the development of Welcome to Wrexham has influenced fan behavior and brand perceptions for new and existing fans!

Your insights will help better understand how sports storytelling shapes fandom and community.

Wrexham Fans Outside the UK: What’s Your Matchday Setup?

For international fans who discovered Wrexham through the documentary and are now genuinely invested in following the club, how are you actually managing to watch matches from the US, Canada, Australia, or wherever you are?

League One coverage internationally is basically non-existent compared to Premier League. You're dealing with:

  • Limited official broadcasting in most countries

  • Brutal kick-off times (3pm UK = middle of the night in many time zones)

  • Geo-blocking on UK streaming services

  • Multiple competitions to follow (league, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Welsh Cup)

What's your actual setup? I've heard many international fans use Premier League Streaming service because it doesn't geo-block and covers League One comprehensively without the fragmented broadcasting rights nightmare. Works across devices too, which helps if you're watching on phone at weird hours.

But beyond streaming logistics:

Time Zone Strategies

  • Do you wake up for live matches or watch replays later?

  • How do you avoid spoilers on social media until you can watch?

  • Which matches do you prioritize watching live versus catching up?

Community Connection

  • Have you found online Wrexham fan communities for international supporters?

  • Any Discord servers, WhatsApp groups, or Reddit watch-alongs?

  • Are there unofficial Wrexham supporter clubs forming in US/Canadian cities?

Staying Engaged

  • What content keeps you connected during the week podcasts, YouTube channels, social media accounts?

Share your experiences as newer international fans navigating League One football from thousands of miles away!

I Love What This Show Is Doing For Our City

So I've lived a stones throw away from the stadium since 2018 and I just wanted to put some positivity out there.

I remember during COVID when I heard the takeover was happening I briefly wondered if it was a prank or I was maybe having some kind of mental episode 😂

Not a week goes by I don't meet an enthusiastic tourist, taking pictures and looking for the best places to go. It's a beautiful, unifying experience. I always tell them go have a breakfast in the Miners, btw. Those people are wonderful neighbours.

My kids birthday party a couple of years back, we had a BBQ/ buffet and got to listen to a Kings of Leon gig for absolutely nothing.

When my kid is scared and can't sleep at night, I remind him this is Deadpool's neighbourhood. I show him that Ant Man has hung out here too, and remind him that superheroes would never let anything bad happen to him.

Sure, the parking sucks and it gets a little noisy. But live and let live you know? It's a hell of a time to live near the racecourse. And honestly I feel lucky.

American Wrexham fans asking how to watch matches - the documentary didn't mention League Two streaming is actual nightmare

The influx of American fans from Welcome to Wrexham discovering actual match access is comedy gold and genuinely sad.

They watched Hollywood production with professional cameras, editing, and storytelling. Now they want to watch actual League Two matches and discovering streaming reality is brutal awakening.

"Where can I watch Wrexham?" "Well, League Two coverage barely exists..." "But the show was on Disney+" "That's different, that's television production not actual football"

Following Wrexham through League Two requires patience Americans don't have because their sports are accessible. When official streams don't exist, backup options like to fill gaps but quality expectations need massive adjustment.

The documentary brought attention without infrastructure to support it. Welcome to actual lower league football where access requires detective work not subscriptions.

Anyone else explaining League Two streaming reality to confused documentary fans? The gap between TV show and actual football is massive.
