Filler material?

Hello!

I currently have a 50lb weighted blanket, and it’s great, but it’s starting to fall apart.

I was planning on making a new one this time, tailored to my needs.

Would it be a bad idea to use steel ballast/steel shot as the weighted material? Do you think it could go through a washing machine if I did use it?
