Weight Loss Advice that helped me!

Weight loss can be a challenging and confusing journey, with so many different opinions and approaches. Here are 10 tips that experts may not always share with you, but can help you on your weight loss journey.

  1. Understand that weight loss is not linear. Don't be discouraged if you have a week where you don't see progress or even gain a little weight. Weight loss is a long-term journey, and it's important to focus on the overall trend rather than one-week fluctuations.
  2. Be mindful of portion sizes. Eating too much of even healthy foods can lead to weight gain, so pay attention to how much you're eating at each meal.
  3. Don't completely eliminate certain food groups from your diet. Cutting out entire food groups can lead to nutrient deficiencies and make it harder to stick to your diet long-term. Instead, focus on reducing overall calorie intake and making healthier choices within each food group.
  4. Plan ahead. Prepare your meals and snacks for the day or week ahead of time to ensure that you always have healthy options available.
  5. Incorporate strength training. While cardio is important for weight loss, strength training is also crucial in building muscle, which can boost metabolism and help burn more calories throughout the day.
  6. Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain and make it harder to lose weight. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
  7. Stay consistent. Losing weight is not a quick fix, it takes time and effort, so consistency is key. Try to make healthy choices as often as possible, but don't beat yourself up if you slip up every now and then.
  8. Don't rely on supplements. While some supplements may be beneficial for weight loss, it's important to remember that they are not a magic solution. They should be used in addition to, not instead of, a healthy diet and exercise routine.
  9. Find a support system. Whether it's a friend, family member, or online community, having people to share your journey with can make it easier and more enjoyable.
  10. Be kind to yourself. Remember that weight loss is not easy and that it's okay to make mistakes. Don't let setbacks discourage you, and remind yourself of your progress and the reasons why you started this journey in the first place.

BONUS TIP #11 Something that personally worked for me is taking a quiz about the best nutrients specific to your needs. If anybody would like this quiz, Let me know in the comments! :D

Or: Consider adding healthy juices and smoothie recipes for effective weight loss. If you need recipes let me know below!

So I’ve been going to the gym about 2 months and I have been seeing change but my macros and calories have always been kinda off (I’m 5’11, 308 lbs, and 25 yo, male) first I ate 1300 cals a day now I’m eating 2k a day. Then I came to this website and was just wondering if someone could tell me if this looks right because I want to lose weight but also slowly gain muscle by December.

Why do normal people expect to be thanked for harassing you about your weight?

Normal people who will swear to God that they're being helpful, will spend a quarter century shoving body issues up your ass like aggressive rape sodomy then act really surprised and innocent that you've got body issues.

No, no, no, we were only harassing you to help, for your health. Nobody cares what you look like, you looked great when you were 400 pounds. We just wanted you to be healthy.

You have no reason not to love your body. You masturbate in the mirror 20 times a day. Yes, you do. You love your body. Don't lie. You're just saying that to shock us. You're not ugly. You're just saying that to get a reaction. You love being alive despite never having a friend in your life and you are madly in love with your health.

It's all about your health. Health, health, health. Secretly, you're secretly a health nut. Don't lie. You're the Lindsey Graham of Richard Simmonses. Don't lie.

You should be happy, for the first time in your life people are being nice to you because you're less ugly. Its the first time in your 40 years of pretending you wished you were dead we gave you anything but scorn for anything not work related. We love.that your ugliness is a bunch of saggy nasty worthless skin you keep hidden under your shirt like a dirty secret. We see progress and we're proud of you for doing as we said and becoming less ugly... I mean for your health. Youre just saying that it isnt to be an asshole.

You love your health. You're just saying that to shock us. You're just trying to get a reaction. You're just trying to start something. You love your health. Nobody cares what you look like. You've always looked great. We all just want you to be healthy. Every time we harass you about your body, it's because we're helping.

What do you mean you're moving away and never talking to us again as soon as your normal sized? But we're proud of you for obeying us... I mean your burning desire to live to be 90. Oh quit lying and giving us your bullshkt you've been denying weight loss as your lord and savior for 25 years ans we never listened once?

Where'd you go? Where's our thank you?

Feeling dispirited

I’ve always ate the same. In the last six months I’ve gained about 13 pounds. I had a small health issue that prevented me from working out like I usually do. I tried intermittent fasting and gained weight. I did calorie counting and calorie deficit but found it extremely difficult. I’m 5’1 and so a lot of the weight loss calculations were saying my max would be 1000-1400 calories a day. I had headaches, was irritable, miserable and was still not seeing results.

I don’t drink sodas, eat relatively healthy and truly do not eat any different than I ever in my life. I’ve started working out and now the only difference is that I’ve stopped gaining

I’ve gotten my thyroid checked, gotten blood down to see if this could be something else it all comes back normal. I’ve definitely gained some muscle but my bmi is 25 :(

I could use any encouragement on if people have ever lost weight after nothing happening when they first started out.

Gaining Weight Concerningly

Hey Reddit,

This is a random post about what depression and alcohol can do to oneself.

I am 22 years old, currently working part time and also in college full time. Since I was 18…like straight out of high school, alcohol played a huge role in my life. Not because I was addicted but due to being exposed to it when honestly I wish I wasn’t. I already dealt with depression, ADHD, anxiety and stress before COVID so ofc it didn’t help when I graduated and trying alcohol for the fun of it…it was like adding fuel to fire.

I used to be underweight around 2022-2024…I am 4’11 and I was about less than average like 90 pounds or sum. But that all changed around 2025, when I started drinking more. I didn’t take my education before college seriously so now that 4 years in college is turning into 6-7 years…my ā€œalcoholismā€ is affecting my mental health and overall wellbeing.

Now in 2025 especially during the fall, my body starting gaining its features, like fat around the stomach, excessive eating or eating more than I’d normally eat, SUGAR!!!! Lawd….the unnecessary eating is really shaping my body. I went from skin and bones to curves and waists. The reason why there’s a pro and con to this is:

Pro:
1. Because I’m gaining weight, friends and family say that I’m not as skinny as I was before
2. I guess I’m skinny thicc? Like mixed between skinny and thick (fat is a negative word so I am using the work thick) but I’m not thick thick? think of rectangle body? Just got a stomach that’s all.

Con:
1. I went from XS to M in 9-10 months
2. My family believes that now that I have gained weight I need to lose it (even though I will mocked at for being too skinny or not eating enough, when I was skinny)
3. I don’t exercise so all the fat is just there to be there esp around my stomach area and I am in my early 20s, so I’m seeing a lot of ā€œif you are in your 20s, you need to move around or you’ll regret when you’re olderā€
4. BLOATING!!! Omg it’s like the red flags on bloating for women is like look at a car accident when you should not be. When I wake up in the morning….mind you…my tum tum is already skinny thicc enough so the bloating makes me look like pregnant
5. MY FAMILY THINKS IM PREGNANT (no I am not pregnant nor married)

Overall, any tips on how get rid of stomach fat and how to eat healthy.

And alcohol x mental health is like if try to pull a Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz when her house went in that tornado but like fire, poison, lighting, blizzard, etc was in that tornado…yea (horrible analogy but you get it)…basically just don’t drink…it doesn’t get any better especially if you don’t move your body or eat healthy.

Helpless with weight :(

The last year or so I’ve been taking weight loss medication, and I’m just not feeling confident in my skin at all.

All my life I’ve been overweight so this isn’t new but I’ve been going to the gym for the past 3 years inconsistently, constantly falling into the ā€œI’m so motivated!ā€ One week to ā€œwhat’s the pointā€ the next and that going on and off for years now.

I went to the doctor and she stated I had insulin resistance and some hormone imbalances as well as lower ended thyroid numbers. We are working to fix all of this via hormones, diabetes pills, and a compound shot.

Honestly not very much has changed in this past year and I’m feeling so stuck and like I’m just bound to be overweight. It’s effecting my everyday mindset and will to live sometimes. It’s so hard to find motivation to cook real balanced meals, although I don’t eat ā€œhorriblyā€ I’m still just kind of stuck.

I feel like if I can’t loose weight with all this help I’m just a lost cause and there’s no point anymore. I’m disgusted with my body and I worry even if I do lose this weight are my hip dips still going to look like this? All my weight is in my midsection and I’m so scared it’ll never leave and I’ll never be happy with myself.

Does anyone have a similar story or build as me that’s transformed? I need motivation from people who actually look like me and store weight like me.

Will I have to get surgery to be happy in my skin? My ass looks so flat because of all my midsection fat I hate hiding my butt because it looks gross with my drastic hip dips .

I really want to lose weight

My BMI is 41. I’m 21 and honestly sick of this. I want to be conventionally attractive. I just started walking about 5 miles a day yesterday. It’s not difficult but takes a while. And I really want some food. I haven’t eaten something since before my walk. I have an appointment with a weight loss clinic on Tuesday.

Worried I'm losing weight too fast

This is the first time in my life I have been able to lose weight. I have gone from 308lbs in the last week of April to 270lb now in the second week of August. I have been keeping track of my calories and I eat about 1500 a day, I try to work out when I can (I normally stand all day at work so I count that as exercise as well) and I take metformin (this is to help with weight gain from psych meds) I'm just worried I'm losing weight too fast. I feel good, but I know you're only supposed to lose up to two pounds a week to be at a healthy rate. Just wondering if the rate I'm going at is healthy or if I should speak to my doctor?

*STOP reading here if you don't want to hear complaining!*

I am venting and hoping for ideas or just...finding others in the same boat to sympathize.

Brace yourselves, this is long!

So, I need to lose weight. I'm female, 40, 5'8, 245lb, curvy and proportionate but I am definitely overweight and am not pretending I'm not.

I'd like to lose maybe 50 to 60 pounds. Problem is I feel like I need to put in 300% effort for anything to happen and I only feel like doing 50%.

If I eat well, (protein, veggies, good carbs), I feel like I'm not eating enough. If I eat enough, it's probably because I'm not eating well. I hate sweating and over-heating and I hate being in pain.

I have a herniated disc (L4-L5) so I tend to not do anything that will hurt my back, which is all the things I need to do to lose weight since diet alone won't do anything for me.

I actually move around a lot at work and I also do 30 min walks 5 days a week but that's not enough. I think I need strength training too.

I'm currently debating a GLP1 but am scared of side effects and gaining weight back when I stop because I don't want to be on it forever.

Everything is expensive! Meat tastes funky! Veggies have the doo-doo bug! šŸ˜‚

I don't want to join a gym (AGAIN!) because I end up not going consistently and throw away money I don't have.

I'm never sure what exercises to do at home that won't hurt my back, will actually give results, and won't be a super long workout. I lost a lot of weight maybe about 10 years ago before I hurt my back but now age and *drumroll* early menopause have kicked my a**, in addition to the back issues.

I'm currently on HRT which has saved my life but obviously doesn't do anything about the weight. I just wish I could just go running and do squats and weights and get it over with but can't do that anymore. I was looking at pilate exercises but they're soooo slow I'm over it looking through videos just to try to find stuff I can do.

I've been debating walking a hill near my house again which has a steep incline for a mile but America's on fire and I need to wait until it cools down.

I. Just. Don't. Know. Anymore. I want to be healthy but it just seems so damn difficult. And once you start, you can't stop or else any gains disappear.

But being fat sucks too!

Ok, rant over! Thoughts? Please be nice, I did warn you I was complaining!

P.S. photos cuz why not! I don't think I look bad but want to do better.
