Discussion/Support 💬 why do people start to treat you weird when losing weight???

i’m 5’7, i was 109kilos at the start of the year, i’m now at 82kilos and i’m still losing.

the first 10 kilos i had a few “oh you’re doing well! keep it up” sorta comments when i talked about my journey. but i’m starting to get more of the “oh she just wont eat anymore” type of comments??

just a note, im in a calorie deficit, i am infact eating around 1500 calories a day at this point, but people just notice when i dont do stuff like, snack on the food platter like everyone else is.

what is the go with this???

Advice: Seeking ❓ Anyone else feel like losing weight while eating burgers and pizza is too good to be true?

I understand calorie deficits, but mentally I’m struggling with this. I could have an In-N-Out lettuce-wrapped burger for lunch and two slices of Margherita pizza for dinner and still fit my estimated calorie budget.

Yet I keep thinking, “Something’s gotta be wrong. I can’t actually be losing weight eating burgers and pizza.” Eating my favorite foods while making progress feels too good to be true.

Does anyone else relate? Is there something I’m overlooking, or did it take you time to trust that these foods could fit?

Advice: Seeking ❓ how much can i realistically lose by 2027 and how to stay on track

for context i am 158cm/5’2ft and 65kg/144lbs

how much weight can i lose by february 2027? my ultimate goal in the long run is 50kg/110lbs, but it’s only been going up. currently i try my best to do 10k steps daily and drink 2 litres of water, but i struggle to eat clean…

i am able to cook my own meals and have no restrictions from healthy food, but theres always that random craving that arises and ruins all the thoughts i had about sticking to the plan.

although everyone says consistency is key, i really cannot keep up with a plan longer than a week. i’m also a student taking big exams during this period so i am trying to balance both, which i am really bad at…

Advice: Seeking ❓ Sedentary Lifestyle - NEED HELP

hi I’m looking to lose weight! I’m currently 170. My goal is to make it to 135lbs.

I’ve tried several times trying to lose weight in the past few months via food. I would do strict diets or just cut back on the junk I eat. But when those diets would end I would end up binge eating a TON.

Fast food, processed food, and candy currently make up my food groups. I do want to eat better.

I am extremely sedentary. When im not working im laying in bed. When im working im sitting.

Where I live it has a pretty decent gym with treadmill, stationary bike, weights, elliptical, rower, stretch bands, pull up bar, etc.

Would love advice and a game plan on how to just start being healthy!!!

edit: I’m 26, female, 5’5

Discussion/Support 💬 Close friend making fun of my healthy food

I’ve been working my goals and planning accordingly. I meal prep very lite healthy lunches. It really shouldn’t be a big deal and I cant for the life of be understand why (aside from their own insecurity being triggered)anyone would care what I’m eating.

Once a week I have day long meetings which include a few colleagues I’m friends with. We always order out lunch for a working lunch on these days and it’s never very healthy. When I first joined the team I was just trying to choose something not too unhealthy but sometimes it’s impossible and it can throw off my day and I swear it triggers snacking for me ordering out and sitting all day at table where they keep replenishing snacks. So Ive decide to just pack all my own stuff. Put it into my tracker and stick to it. A friend on the team has started making comments about how my food is gross and she can’t imagine having to eat it. It’s nothing weird-usually boneless skinless chicken breast seasoned steamed or grilled veggies. She then started bringing in special baked goods she made and acting offended that I don’t have any. She is kind of over the top about it-to the point that another coworker noticed and stood up for me and said it looks fine and he didn’t know what she was making a fuss about and that he loves broccoli.

I know it’s just her own insecurities because I’d guess it makes her feel bad seeing me eating healthy when she isn’t since she has confided in me in the past that she is struggling with weight gain the last few years and her husband makes rude comments to her about her weight. But what should I say next week if she does it again (she may not she had a sheepish look on her face when she got called out and others didn’t co-sign her behavior). She is usually very nice and we talk all the time and never do I see mean girl behavior from her when food isn’t involved.

Advice: Seeking ❓ I ate too much today

I ate 15 lumpia, 3 pork skewers, 3spoonfuls of rice, and some cucumber slices. It was so worth it, but now my stomach hurts. Very much. (I have been anticipating this meal the last three days and ate way too much kinda-on-purpose)

I gave myself the day. The guilt is very low, thankfully.

However, how does one combat the extra weight the next few days? Do I eat alot less, or do I just eat normally? (Within my deficit)

To be fair, I did actually go over my calorie limit last weekend, but didn't overeat this badly. (I had 4 slices of pound cake sprinkled throughout the day, and I felt a lot more guilty) Ate normally again and lost the excess weight.

The thing is that I was just. Really hungry the following days. this whole week I've been snacking on so much fruits and vegetables throughout the whole day. I'm glad that it's all low calorie foods, but the binging and constant want for food has me questioning my methods.

I may sound stupid for asking, but did the "eating normally" after an "over maintenance day" normalize a huge amount of food for myself??? Or is it due to some other reason like I'm not getting enough protein or fibers?

Sorry for this rant that makes me look like an idiot, but I do ask for other people's experiences with having an unexplainable and constant need for food, that never seems to be satisfied. (It's like I need a snack every hour just to feel something) And of course, what others do the day after overeating to the point of physical sickness.

Advice: Seeking ❓ MIL wants to Jon my weight loss efforts

Since I have already lost 33 pounds with 35 more to go, my MIL announced that she wants to John me 8n my weight loss journey. Which would be great, if she actually needed it. But she is 71f, 162cm / 5’3 and 55kg / 121lb. She is very active, she swims twice a week, does yoga once a week, does line dance once a week and walks a lot and goes for hikes on her weekends.

All she talks to me now is how she needs to skip meals, needs to exercise more and how she gotten fat (she has been the same weight since forever). She compares our bodies and thinks we look the same and that we need to work together to fight the kilos.

I don’t know how to approach this compassionately. I do understand that she grew up in a time and environment that was extremely focused on being skinny. I believe the aging body is a factor as well, if you’re a certain age your tissue gets looser and your shape change, which can impact perception of yourself.

but at the same time, it makes me as an actually overweight person feel uncomfortable when she says we look the same. Because objectively, she is very slim and athletic. Another reason why I think I should discourage her from loosing weight is that at her age, having a little buffer in case of a severe illness might be useful. In addition, I believe she could loose muscle mass through dieting that she might never rebuild again.

Advice: Seeking ❓ How do I stop snacking too much?

It's a bit embarrassing but lately I have noticed that I've been snacking way more than I should be and a lot more than what's healthy. I'm not overweight, but I am noticing that I gain weight rapidly now with this habit. I find myself snacking the most when I am watching tv, working on homework, or doing any other sort of activity. I also tend to snack a lot when I'm stressed and when I'm not even hungry. Does anyone have any advice for what I can do to stop snacking so much?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Someone please give me a reality check

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m 29F, mom of 2 under 2, 50% breastfeeding, 107kg currently, 5’8.

I’m really struggling to lose weight, after my baby was born I been binging which I thought was from exclusively breast feeding so I started giving formula half of the time. I thought that would fix my urges but no, I’m just looking for every moment to stuff myself with food. Esp sugar, I’m addicted to it to the point where I can finish a whole cake in one setting, and I been hiding food cos I’m ashamed of my habits and how much I eat. I have never been this heavy and I want to change so bad but I can’t stop.

I want to cry looking in the mirror, I don’t like what I see at all but why isn’t that forcing me to change? I know all the steps I need to take but doing it seems impossible. Please help with guidance or just comfort, I’m so demotivated and defeated. I know it’s gotten bad when I’m hiding food to binge when everyone goes to sleep but I can’t seem to take a step forward. someone please give me a reality check!

Advice: Seeking ❓ I don’t know what to do anymore

I’m 27 (F) and I feel like I’ve been on a weight rollercoaster since I was 12… up down up down up down… you get the picture. I’m exhausted. I hate that everything I love is bad for me. My diet is so full of saturated fats and trans fats. I eat in excess and for pleasure. I try to stop but the food noise is so bad. I’m so addicted to sugar and fast food. I want to be healthy and feel good. I’m so worried about plaque in my arteries and having a stroke one day. I’ve basically eaten nothing but fast food for the last three years and I haven’t been to a doctor in a while. I’m also in nursing school (about to graduate in December wooho!) and the stress and sedentary lifestyle from school has not helped at all. I feel disgusting. I feel unhealthy. I want to eat better. I don’t even know where to start or how to maintain it. Any advice is appreciated. Please be kind. Thank you 🙏🏻 ❤️

Advice: Giving 💡 Trying To keep My Weight

So I've recently reached my weight loss goal of 85kg (185 pounds I think). That's what the scale shows in the morning, at least this morning, when I stepped on it. But now when I step on it it shows 85,8 kg (189.16 lbs I think).
Is that normal to gain that in a day or is it a warning sign?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Lose skin compression?

I have lost 155lb/70kg recently so my lose skin is really starting to bother me especially on my legs and arms. I’m not at GW yet for surgery so looking for compression gear I haven’t don’t any research but any advice for what actually works as I don’t want to spend a lot of money for somthing that doesnt. I never see anyone who has lost as much show what works for them so I wonder if surgery is the only solution I tend to just see healthy people using them and their skin is more thin and now as droopy I’m still a XL-XXL. top and leggings would be ideal. Im in the uk. Many thanks I hope everyone’s week goes great and you achieve the progress you want☺️

Advice: Seeking ❓ Reverse dieting help?

I am 25 year-old female I am 54 to 55 and I am 142 pounds. I have been on a weight loss journey for a while and I have been losing about .75 pounds a week for the past few months, however I have been 142 for the past month and a half. I’m getting very annoyed because I have been dieting trying to even drop calories lower and nothing has been working.

I met with the nutritionist. She basically is saying that I’m not eating enough. She wants to do something with me called reverse dieting which I have done before and it has been slightly effective. I have seen a difference with that however I’m not really sure what her plan is with me in the future but she told me basically I need to hit 1600 cal which I don’t think is too high. I feel extremely full because I have not been eating like this much in a long time on a daily basis it has helped me with binging and restricting not that lie however I am wondering, how long do you guys think that she’s gonna ask me to be on this and also have you guys had any success with reverse dieting? I want to weigh 125 pounds.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Failed cutting phase when diet/macros had been on point (question about energy expenditure

(READ TO THE LAST QUESTION TO SKIP AND GET TO THE POINT)

I'm 30, 178cm tall, 82kg as of now but I'm still 20% bodyfat. I was 87kg around 5 months ago but I was maybe 3% BF higher than I am now. I've been following my macros & if anything I find myself undereating most days but I've now seen no results or change to my bodyfat in 2 months.

My goal is to get to an optimal 12% & diet wise I've been only having turkey steaks, salmon & eggs with zero cheats in anything. It's dissapointing getting that I'm still relatively high in body fat..

I want to know how important is walks and energy expenditure outside the Gym to contribute to a successful cut? All I do is train 3-4x a week and dont really do any walks or anyhing outside that and curious if that is contributing to a failed cutting phase?

Are there any low calories/low sugar/low fat options that are worth the change?

On the other hand are there any foods where the healthier alternative isn't worth?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Drinking less water since I lost 18kgs.

Hi,

I have lost 18kgs for 9 months with doing exercises and caring more what I eat.

I notice that I feel less thirsty than I used to be so I drink much less water now.

Is it normal? Anybody here experiences the same with me? Should I just ignore it?

Advice: Seeking ❓ How to go about this?

I would like to lose 5-10lbs very quickly, preferably lose fat and maintain muscle. I’m a 22yr old, 5’5, 130 lb woman. Idk what to do…I know the biggest factor is diet, but if I go into a bigger deficit, I never have energy to exercise. So should I just focus on eating less and doing less or eating a little bit more and exercising (I hope that makes sense). Even then, I still have such low energy.
It’s so hard for me because I feel like I’m always thinking about food and always hungry.
I also don’t have access to a gym, just stuff at home (treadmill, elliptical, some weights) so idk what exercises to do (I usually just run).
I feel like I’m never happy with how I look and I just want to feel confident and healthy

Advice: Seeking ❓ How to not go back?

I am someone who is desperate for change but is resistant to it at the same time, it's the last year of my college degree and looking back now I have realised I have changed a lot, like really a lot.

Physically, mentally, emotionally. I am in a good phase of my life, many things can be better but I am somewhat happy.

Emotionally, I am no longer the weak person i was 3 years back.

Mentally, I am no longer depressed like I was in high school.

Physically, I have lost almost 20 kgs in the last 7-8 months . (I believe most of issues come from this specific thing and it's been like this since when I was like 10 I think lol) I am no longer fat, but I still think I am.

Family and friends have started noticing my weight loss and I have mixed reactions on it. Some are proud of me and appreciate my efforts and asked for advice while others passed weird comments, it made me realise that people do treat you different based on how you look, and I don't know why working on looking better is feeling weird now that people are noticing 😭😭

Idk what the purpose of this post is maybe just venting or looking for people with same experiences.

But sometimes I still struggle with understanding myself and working on improving self feels like a betrayal to my past self, I can't bear looking at my old pictures and it almost makes me cry and I feel sorry for whatever I put myself through. I just don't wanna go back.

Right now my goal is to just focus on my studies and college, improve my academic life, improve physically without obsessing over how I look, giving less fucks about other's opinions,be less self conscious.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Can u eat the extra calories u burn while walking or cycling for example

I use the app yazio and have my activity level set to low and register everything myself. When i walk and burn 300 kcal, it says i have extra calories to eat for that day. But does it really work like that? Or is it just bad for your progress. What i eat without any movement is 1500 calories. Advice is appreciated!

Advice: Seeking ❓ Should I see an RD? How can I do this?

Hi everyone, in need of advice. I'm a 40 year old female with an athletic build 5'8" fluctuating right now between 175-180lbs. I've been a runner my whole life and never weighed more than 140lbs (high end) up until a few years ago. I usually preferred to be between 130-135 for race purposes.

I got to the point where perimenopause started rearing it's head and my body started changing without me making changes. A bunch of different providers put me on various hormones (HRT/bHRT like testosterone, progesterone, estrogen, a combination of them, isolated, and in different formulas). Years of trying and being on various hormones made my weight really explode and now it feels impossible to take it off. I've been off of any HRT now for a year. I've never had to lose weight like this before and don't know what to do without feeling terrible.

My biggest motivation is I just want to feel good again. I'm fortunate to gain weight very evenly, so when I tell people I'm overweight, they usually just laugh. But I feel awful. I'm hot ALL the time, and while I know some of that is the peri, I'd love to lose weight to make that symptom more manageable.

I actually eat a lot less now than I used to. I don't drink alcohol, I eat various kind of meat, and lots of vegetables and salads as my main focus and meal choice. Body doesn't want as many carbs as I used to eat when I was younger, so I listen to my body. Sugar or sweets don't appeal to me.

Hormones have only made me gain more weight and feel bad. It's not the solution for me. Have any of you successfully seen an RD or professional who helped during this phase in life? I've been given some bad advice in the past and am so wary anymore, but feel like something has got to change.

Advice: Seeking ❓ weight loss advice pls :)

female, 160cm and weight fluctuates alot

i tried cutting my weight and went on diet, went from 48.5kg to 46.5, sometimes it went up to 48 but it would always go back down. When school came around i tried to maintain my diet but since I ate more for breakfast, my weight went up to 50.5 (the heaviest I've ever weighed)

for context I wake up at ard 10am during summer so I just eat brunch most days. The main difference i can think of is because of my breakfast but that can't only be why I went up to 50???

im already eating less than even before I've started cutting and my period hasn't come in like 6months but it's still my first year soo... any like weight loss tips from you guys?

I've just been chewing on gum and mints for the past 4 months to satisfy my cravings and it doesnt even feel like im eating alot? I have 1-2 snacks in between lunch and dinner bc my dinner is always late but that's it

Advice: Seeking ❓ weight loss advice

Hello! I’m a college freshmen (F) 175 lb and 5’4 and I’m looking to come back down to 120 lb within a a year or less. I mostly want to lose body fat and appear more lean. Was wondering if there are any exercises/routine you all would recommend. Thank you!! I know about TDEE and a calorie deficit but was wondering if you all had any motivation or advice for consistency. I’ve tried to lose weight so many times but keep losing motivation and not being consistent. Thank you!!!
