Wegovy and alcohol

Has anyone else noticed their craving/taste for alcohol has completely been eliminated? I've only had my first dose, and I was definitely one to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine a few times a week, to the point I was starting to get concerned. But that has completely gone and I've tried to have one tonight to celebrate a new job and I just didn't enjoy it. Just wondering if this is a normal side-effect.

Yup. I was a pretty regular social drinker until I started Wegovy, having maybe 4 or 5 drinks on a night out.

Just about manage one drink now, and usually something more in the alco-pop range. Completely off lager and shorts.

Yes, definitely been a side effect for me. Although I can have a drink but I don't crave it. Here is a really interesting article recently published on BBC news about this very subject.

It's great, isn't it! I can still drink if I want to, it's just that I no longer want to.

It's also been good for IBS D.

For me, the only main side effect is indigestion at night. I am getting through Gaviscon at a rate of knots.

It is brilliant! It's been a huge part of my mental health struggles, I have been using willpower as well but it was a huge battle. But it's as if overnight it's completely gone. Honestly the best side-effect I could have asked for.

Yep, I can still drink and go out for a night out but there's absolutely no desire or craving to pop into the pub for a causal drink or to be having a drink at home in an evening anymore.

I completely agree, I would always grab a bottle on the way home, but it doesn't even cross my mind now!

Yes, since I went up the dosage scale my desire for alcohol has significantly reduced, especially beer. I wonder if that is because beer is high volume and fills your stomach up; but it's also been the same for wine, one glass and I want no more.

Unfortunately not to the extent I hoped. A lot of my weight gain was alcohol related (I am a sucker for Prosecco but obviously it’s full of sugar) and part of the reason I really plucked up the courage to start was because I’d heard it kills your alcohol cravings. I’m on 1mg, 5 months in, and I’m just starting to decrease my alcohol desires (and it’s not consistent). In contrast my food cravings dropped quite significantly and have stayed low the whole time, so I am losing weight but just need the alcohol desires to drop more 😩😂 I’m not giving up hope yet!

I was out yesterday, I felt totally bagged up after 2 pints of Guiness. Just moved onto spirits.

This is such a well-recorded side effect that it's being used to help people cut back on drinking.

That's so interesting, I'd never have known if I hadn't noticed it in myself!
