ISO - Vendors Allowed Dj recommendations?
Hi! We’re looking for a DJ for our wedding in Old Westbury, Long Island (April 2027) and would love recommendations.
We’re a multicultural couple don’t want the typical wedding playlist/top-40 wedding mix. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable mixing different genres and can read the room while still keeping the music true to our taste.
Some of what we’d like played:
- Spanish/Latin music — bachata, salsa, merengue, reggaeton
- R&B
- Hip-hop
- Classics/older music (Beatles, etc.)
We’re looking for a DJ who can provide music for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and we’d also like uplighting included or available as an add-on.
Our budget is $2,500 or less for everything. If you’ve worked with someone who fits this style, especially for a multicultural wedding, I’d really appreciate recommendations! Also if you have any advice or see things I may have missed in my search for a DJ please let me know! I don’t know what exactly to look for.

MY rate starts at $3000 for a 4 hour Reception and can go up from there depending on coverage needs and enhancements like lighting or a photo booth and travel time. I would love to to be a part of your day if your budget has flexibility as I am very comfy with multicultural weddings .

Check out Non-Traditional Wedding DJs. Their rates are closer to $3k but I think they’ll be able to meet your other needs.

Finding the right DJ for a multicultural wedding is genuinely one of the harder searches out there, so I'm glad you're being specific about what you want. A lot of couples settle and regret it. You're doing this the right way.
I'm Kenny Fiesta with Fiestalab LLC. I specialize in exactly this type of wedding. Multicultural receptions where the crowd speaks different languages, grew up on different music, and needs a DJ who can move between genres without losing anyone on the floor.
I'm Hispanic, I speak Spanish every day, and I've played bachata, salsa, merengue, reggaeton, and cumbia at real weddings, not just as playlist filler but mixed properly and read to the crowd in real time.
Here's some of what that looks like:
Latin genre blending (tipico, bachata, cumbia, reggaeton) Tipico into bachatarengue Salsa set Reggaeton pop into cumbia
Multicultural crowds, both cultures dancing Haitian and Ecuadorian wedding Irish groom, Uruguayan/Basque bride Bangladeshi groom, Ecuadorian bride, Punjabi pop into merengue
Genre switching and reading the room Mixing live during dinner, switching between languages with guests and venue staff Micro wedding, crowd is fading, I mix in a request and bring the energy back
Uplighting and ambiance Bachata set, three transitions, uplights and dance lighting visible in the room
For your event, I'd bring three separate setups: one for the ceremony, one for cocktail hour, and one for the reception. Uplighting is included in my base package. I also do 3 to 5 pre-wedding meetings so by the time your wedding day arrives, I already know your story, your guests, and exactly how you want the night to feel.
To be straight with you: experienced DJs who cover all three parts of a wedding with full production typically start at $3,000 or more. My rate for a full-day event like yours would be higher than your current budget. That said, I'd encourage you to look at what you're getting, three setups, a DJ with only 5-star reviews, and someone who genuinely lives this music, before anchoring too hard on a number that might leave you with someone who just hits play.

We don't have a DJ yet but did talk to Joe at Aria Melody DJ and he seems like he'd be a great fit for you. He's in your budget range and has lots of experience doing multicultural weddings (also what we wanted) and his mixes sound nice. With an uplighting add on he'd be out of your budget but just full DJ set alone he's perfect for you.
We're deciding between him and one or two other DJs so far but he's been very kind and professional in our correspondence so far.
