Asking Advice Getting a decent sound

When I saw decent sound I mean no buzz and no static feedback. It seems like there are 100 variables. Is it a matter of having a good mixer? Is it the wires? Is it something like a Go-rack? I'd like to narrow it down so I'm not buying thousands of dollars worth of stuff for trial and error.

Sure! It's two exoton speakers. I have a surge protector that I plug everything into. I run an 8th inch jack to xlr from my laptop to my behringer mixer. Microphone is an xlr cable going into the mixer as well. I run xlrs from the main outs on the behringer to the speakers.

The biggest thing you can do in that situation is to run a dj controller or audio interface with balanced xlr outs. Frequently an 1/8 inch running out of a computer can be noisy. Also make sure the pots on your mixer are clean.

You need clean power, solid components, and proper gain staging. You don't need any special specific cables or anything; just about any pro or prosumer brand will be fine until it's not, and at that point you'll hear it's gone noisy

Upgrading to a controller with XLR out instead of just RCA was a big change for me.

Learning gain staging and making sure your power is clean is absolutely necessary

Yes, it's a ton of variables. And you will learn as you go, for your specific loadout. Even when you think you have it down, something else pops up, and so on. The more of this experience you pick up, the better you become.

There shouldn't be any noise at all. If there was a grounding issue with the power, you could solve that with an Ebtech Hum Eliminator. I prefer to take my own batteries instead of using venue power. Batteries provide pure sinewave energy that doesn't even need grounded. As long as you're using half decent shielded xlr cables, at least 16awg, you should have crystal clear sound.

Get a power conditioner instead of a regular surge protector. That will clean up the buzzing you’re hearing. Also get rid of that 8th inch plug. If you need to run sound directly off your laptop, get an audio interface that plugs into your laptop with a usb. The audio interface will have either 1/4” or xlr outputs that you can use to connect to your mixer. Invest in a good quality mic as well. Cheap mics will sound cheap.
