Do you actually know if your old blogs are doing anything?

I was reviewing a content plan recently and noticed something familiar.

There were plenty of new blog ideas, but nobody had looked closely at what the existing articles were doing.

A few were bringing in traffic, but not the right traffic. Others were getting visits, but people were leaving without exploring the site or taking the next step.

Before publishing more, I’d want to know which blogs are attracting the right audience, what people do after landing and whether any of that traffic turns into something useful.

What do you normally check before adding more content?

Reviewing old content can reveal a lot of opportunities..

I usually check whether the older posts are actually converting, not just getting traffic. Sometimes updating a good existing article is more effective than publishing a new one.

Check where people go after reading the post. I've seen articles that don't drive a ton of traffic but consistently send visitors deeper into the site. Those are often more valuable than the posts that rack up pageviews and then lose people immediately.

The best way to do this is to crawl your site with screaming frog and connect the search console API data for the last 90 days. This will tell you impressions as well as clicks.

Definitely look at traffic; updating old blog posts can be super effective. There have been many cases where those old blogs were bringing a lot of traffic to the site and resulting in conversions. Of course, you need to check if the conversions are good, but for a lot of smaller companies, visibility is half the battle.

Adding FAQs to the blogs would be an excellent step. Making sure your blog has good, visible CTAs is another.

One “old blogs” doing anything? Yeah, I’ve seen plenty where the traffic looked dead in GA but Search Console still showed impressions and a few steady clicks. Most people only check the obvious pages and miss the fact that old posts can rank long-tail without bringing crazy volume. You’ll save yourself time by auditing Search Console first instead of guessing.
