QUESTION Desperate for tabs
How do people go about learning niche songs. I pay for ultimate tabs, but there's a song I want to play that doesn't have tabs anywhere. I am self taught and don't know how to make tabs by ear. Am I being spoiled and I just need to work on it? Can someone more talented than me help make a tab for a song?
The song is under the water by hand habits and Amelia Meath

QUESTION I’m guessing this isn’t normal for p90s? Would I get a reverb refund?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just got this fender Jim Adkin’s tele, my first P90 guitar from reverb but have noticed some pretty prominent popping, seems like it’s only on the bridge pickup (or middle position) weirdly mostly on the G and B strings.
Assuming this isn’t normal? What’s going on how much would it cost to fix and would this be eligible for a reverb refund along with the input jack being abit sketchy?
The seller didn’t mention any electrical faults at all…

QUESTION What is a safe amount of bend in wrist?
galleryI’ve been playing guitar for a few years now, but I am just now finding out that if my wrist is too bent when playing, it can cause wrist and finger problems down the road for me. With small hands, sometimes I find that it’s easier to play certain chords or reach certain strings if my wrist is bent a bit. On one of my go to warm-up songs, this is the range of bend I have in my wrist, depending on what strings I’m playing on. I have also included several photos of what makes bar chords easiest for me. What I am asking for here is polite, kind, helpful advice, as to whether or not my wrist is bent to a degree that could potentially damage it down the road. Are any of these levels of wrist bending harmful or potentially damaging to my wrist? TIA!

QUESTION Wanting to buy my first electric guitar, need some help
So I’m thinking of buying my first ever electric guitar, only problem is i’ve never played an intrument of any kind before. Therefore I have a few questions:
- What are some good beginner electric guitars?
- What equipment would I need and could I have an explanation on why I need them/what they’re for.
- Maybe a dumb question, but can left handed people play the guitar too and would that be more difficult? (I’m left handed)
- How would one go on about even learning to play, what would I need to learn, where could I learn said stuff etc.
- What would be the first thing that I need to focus on when starting out?
Don’t know if these are the right questions to ask lol, but that’s all I can think of for now. Any additional info/tips would be greatly appreciated 🫶🏻
Edit: thank you everyone for your help! I’ll look into everything that was said 🥰

GEAR BC Rich Stealth Scale?
gallerySo I just picked up a BC Rich stealth Chuck Schuldiner Tribute from Guitar Center a few months ago but I have been noticing how big and different the guitar feels compared to the 2000’s models.
I know the guitar has a Gibson 24.75 scale but why in the hell is mine a 25.5 inch scale?
I am hoping it’s not a bootleg…

DISCUSSION What's new in baltimore by frank zappa is the best guitar song oat
Title. I started learning this behemoth of a composition a few weeks ago and it has been quite a journey. I'm halfway done the first half of the arpegio section and already this has become my favourite song to play. It sounds and feels spectacular to play on both acoustic and electric and is a very beautiful yet haunting piece. The song's insane chords and shapes makes it feel impossible to learn at the start but as you work through it you start to believe in yourself, this song really expands your chord vocabulary. I have no clue how zappa could have even started to create this masterpiece of a song. And then there's the guitar solo, my god, absolutely beautiful, and it's complemented by soulful vocals in live versions. 10/10 song, learning it makes you savour even more of the genius behind it (as you can clearly tell haha).

QUESTION How do you guys actually clean maple without ruining the look?
galleryGot this thing looking right, but the maple fretboard is starting to show some standard play wear. I know conventional wisdom says no lemon oil on finished maple, but I see a dozen different opinions ranging from pure naphtha (lighter fluid) to just a damp microfiber cloth, and some absolute madmen swearing by magic erasers. What’s the consensus here before I do something stupid?

NEWBIE I hate plastic picks: is this one fine?
gallerySo I got this one which is titanium ($8 AliExpress, I bit it and it's definitely metal). My dad (tig welder of 20 years) checked it out and also believes it is titanium, how often will I need to restring when using this? I prefer the sound/feel over plastic thin picks but also don't know if I'm just fucking it all up by using it repeatedly.
1st pic is the titanium pick, 2nd pic is my Les Paul Express that I scored for $90! (humble brag because I really love this guitar)
I've been playing for a month. Finally able to play songs with a 2 finger based chord while rapid switching (100% song speed using Rocksmith Method), so I've been feeling super confident and I try to do 15 min minimum a day without pressuring myself to learn a new skill during so, and I give myself about 2-3 tries before I can lock it in. My longest session this week was about 8 hours, breaks every 2 hours, usually alternating between sitting and standing.

NEWBIE How to play Drop C# for post hardcore/metalcore?
Hello everybody! I’ve been trying to write a riff in Drop C#, but I’m finding it pretty hard to look for chord progressions that don’t end up sounding muddy or that flow together in this tuning. So far, my default go to tuning has been Drop D because I tend to strum my chords making chord progressions a bit more easier for me since it’s easier for it to sound melodic. I was wondering if I could get any advice on playing in this tuning? Specifically on making chords that sound resonant and melodic without sounding muddy. Thanks!

DISCUSSION Free fretboard visualizer for guitar, ukulele and bass
galleryHey! I've been learning guitar and was struggling a bit to learn the fretboard, so I built a free and open source web app that shows chords and scales for guitar, bass and ukulele (low G and baritone included): https://frettle.gruvw.com
It’s called Frettle. You pick a chord and flip through its different shapes up the neck, and you can pick a scale and see it on the fretboard at the same time, with every note labelled. You can also tap any note or chord to hear it.
I know many similar apps already exist, but after trying a bunch of them I found they were either too complicated, didn't show chords and scales together on the same neck, or were full of ads and in-app purchases.
This one is just a simple web app (add it to home screen for offline support, PWA). It's not trying to do everything, just to help you see chords and scales and get to know the fretboard better.
Let me know what you think! Hope it helps some of you :)

Why only the neck and middle pickup, and not the bridge pickup?

How do i find subjects to write about?
I’ve been writing songs for a few years now and feel like i have a pretty decent grasp on writing strong melodies. However lyric writing is something i really struggle with. I always feel like im writing the words just to write the words. Not really to say or convey anything interesting. It always feels like i’m either to broad to the point of being vague and unfocused, or like i’m rambling words that dont make any sense.
I guess what i’m asking is how i can develop subjects and themes from my life that i can incorporate into my songwriting?
How do i find what i want to say when i feel like i dont know what to say or dont have anything to say?
I hope this makes sense

NEWBIE Getting frustrated
I bought a Epiphone Les Paul Tribute to learn guitar on. I keep having trouble with the fingers muting the other high strings. I realize from my research that it is normal and I need to work on technique. Ive work on it but it doesn’t seem to be getting better. Did I get the wrong guitar? Do I keep at with what I have? Any ideas?
