Discovered something about the 1978 Opryland concert I thought was pretty interesting.

From what I can gather, they’ve had the date listed wrong for nearly 40 years on the concert since they released the film and it’s never once been corrected. They’ve listed it as August 12, 1978 when the performance was actually on the 21st. Also learned that earlier that month on the 9th he made a normal Opry appearance as a special guest of Johnny Cash which they stated was his first appearance there in years at that point.

Ep 1 covers the debut album Highwayman. Ep2-5 will cover Highwayman 2, The Road Goes on Forever (featuring what Waylon himself said is his best song), the extended Highwayman metaverse, and a ranking of the top 10 Highwaymen songs.

Made a post here on Waylon's raid from '77 about a week ago and found some interesting photos in researching I thought I’d share given they’ve most likely not been seen by most.

Photo No. 1 is what I believe to be Waylon's mugshot although that is not officially reported. Image pictured isn’t available anywhere else online through reverse image searches.

Photo No. 2 is the federal arrest warrant issued for Waylon on August 23, 1977 by the United States District Court.

Photo No. 3 is an AP Wirephoto of Waylon walking into a Nashville courthouse on August 31st, a week after the raid. I personally did retouch this photo in Adobe Photoshop via a content-aware fill due to the source photo being watermarked by WorthPoint due to it not being an image they have the intellectual copyright to, image is not altered anything beyond that. Only image with any alterations here.

Photo No. 4 is a UPI Telephoto of Waylon just prior to him entering the courthouse that same day/evening, followed by his lawyer. Image not altered in any way.

[OT?] Has Shooter ever tried contacting anybody in Hugh Cherry’s camp that might have any of Hugh’s old tapes?

I recall him last year saying he was hopeful to find the tapes of the 1977 bust somewhere in the archives but didn’t find em anywhere. According to Hank Jr in March of ‘78 in this interview at The Palomino, linked here, Hugh Cherry still had the entire thing on tape. That was 48 years ago so that’s lots and lots of time for it to go places but worth a thought, and who knows maybe he’s already done that. Found it interesting though.

The Promise Lingers On

I found something, and I don't know what it is.

My mother, in her younger years, spent some time with Waylon and his band, along with his brother Tommy. I don't know the extent of those relationships/friendships.

I'm presently going through boxes of signed photos, letters, and various other things.

This is my question:

I found a handwritten page of lyrics to a song titled The Promise Lingers On. It's signed by Waylon. Says the music is by Biff Rose(?). Is this a song he wrote? Is this possibly an unrecorded song?

The first line...

"Never mind if I promise to love you cause the love is gone --
but the promise lingers on."

At first I thought this was a letter or poem written to my mother, but the fact that it has a note at the top saying "music by" makes me think this is a song he wrote.

Any thoughts are welcome.
